I’m gonna have to watch the complete episode again. I am truly amazed about all of the details of this intricate plot. I was very much a He-Man newbie. Writer supervisor Arthur Nadel.certainly deserves much of the credit for his guidance.
After all, I was hired to write Fat Albert and had not planned to write any He-Man scripts. I was totally ignorant of the entire he-man franchise.
Looking back, so much credit goes to he fantastic storyboard team, as well as the Director and everyone else at Filmation who brought all of my stories to life.
I am astonished how so many decades later that my He-Man episodes still live on.

Someone's gotta tranquilizer-dart Beast Man the next time when he's residing at the pleasure of his Majesty King of Eternia so he doesn't escape like that again lol. I definitely enjoyed that episode back in the day! For a "He-man Newbie" that was pretty good.

25 years had gone by before I rewatched the Filmation series as an adult, and while I had forgotten /was reminded of a lot while rewatching, there were still a few Filmation moments that I had never forgotten and still remembered the dialogue precisely all these later... and one of them was this moment when Adam risked transforming in front of Teela, and his cover-up about his new jacket. 😂😂 Iconic scene.
Yeah, it's a wonderfully silly, but classic moment! :)
Very interesting how the bars of Beastman's cell change designs from one shot to the next shot of him looking out.

Growing up, our local video store had a compilation tape which had this episode, although that particular release put a weird greenish tint on this episode. I assumed it was something to do with the moon’s atmosphere (instead of an error with the cassette)! I always loved the episodes that took place outside of Eternia, they really fueled my imagination.

You commentary enhances each episode and it's always fun to see some of the characters we all had as kids , show up on screen

i love a season 2 episode where Skeletor feels like a proper threat again (like he did in early season 1 or in his She-Ra appearances) rather than the toned down version we got for a lot of the season (like, for example, having a tanty over a circus). Great insights, as always, James

The dungeon at the palace needs to tranquilize Beast-Man every time they lock him up. Change my mind. 😅

No mention of Bright Moon from She-Ra I see, LOL. :D Yeah that moment where He-Man destroys the cannon, that has got to be one of the most unintentionally dark and/or funny moments from the Filmation series. :D It would be interesting to hear you do a commentary on the 2002 series where Superted's creator revived the show to have Dogtanian play He-Man and Prince Adam. :D :) I will admit that image of Skeletor standing on the rocky cliff with the real Beast-Man is a VERY striking image. You did a great job using it for the thumbnail. :)

The plot point with Man-E-Faces kinda reminds me of the Transformers Episode *Masquerade* to some degree.

I feel like it would be awkward given the giant device that surrounds his head! :)
I thought for sure that Teela was going to find out the secret. This was a big deal to young me as secret identities of major comic book characters like Superman, Spider-Man, etc. were precious at that time. Revealing the identity was usually met with some kind of switch, memory loss, or worse. I feel like the drama of the secret identity is almost non-existent. The MCU doesn't even bother and the Arrowverse barely toyed around with them.
Secret identity subplots are such a wonderful thing! :)
I really enjoyed the 2002 He-Man, really wish it lasted more seasons, that we got it's version of She-Ra, and that it gets a blu ray release.
Yeah, the 2002 cartoon had a LOT going for it - Kind of lost its way during that second season... - But I DO look forward to revisiting it in-depth at some point! :)

Yup...that's one of the few times we see his arm swapped...it actually happened VERY rarely in the series! :)
I have to say I think He-Man would have survived the explosive blast. I know it's never outright stated he's invulnerable, but he would have survived with some moderate injuries. I mean if his bones and his muscle tissue are dense enough and strong enough to sustain the weight of something as big as the Moon or lifting up mountains, I'm pretty sure they're durable enough to withstand an explosive ( to an extent.)
I'm sure He-Man turning into a tornado is well within the scope of his abilities. It's a form of super speed and strength that could be accomplished with practice. He's already demonstrated numerous times of his foot speed. Specifically the problem with power. If that explanation is not enough, one could just say since his powers are based in magic he accomplished it through magic. Since the laws of physics don't apply to magic...
Yeah, I don't mind him turning into a tornado...it's the flying part that makes me squirm a little...:)
I really like the 200X MOTU cartoon. I think it's better than the original. Though I don't like that they made Skeletor a relative to Prince Adam. Instead, I prefer the idea that Skeletor and his minions come from another dimension. He sensed the power of Grayskull and came to Eternia, but that his device got broken rendering him stuck on Eternia. And so he spends every episode trying to get into Castle Grayskull since he doesn't have much else to do, etc. I do like that Snake Mountain used to belong to the snake people that eventually break out of their prison in 200X.
The 2002 cartoon was great - But yeah, for me, Skeletor will always be the "demon from another dimension" and the Evil Warriors will always be assembled from "around the universe"! :)
Do you have any idea when the rest of the world is going to get the MOTU Filmation on Blu-Ray? If there's some place where people put those episodes where you could stream them online, I'd check it out. As it's been a few years and really annoying they haven't released the Blu-Ray outside of Germany.
Let's just say I'm doing my best to make certain things happen! :)
