Spray Painting, Custom Holden HZ Ute

  • In this video I will take you through the process of Spray Painting this Custom HZ Holden Ute or Pickup USA, the car had some bad blistering in the old repairs so we removed all the paint and filler in the affected areas then refilled, primed and painted.
    The car had also been broken into so the owner decided to have the exterior locks cut out, we then welded in patches, filled primed and painted.
    For primer I will be using Concept HS primer with the Airgunsa AZ3 1.8mm primer gun and for paint I am using Concept Paints No-Mix basecoat colour and Standox HS clear over the top with my new DeVilbiss GPI 1.4mm for both clear and base.
    Learn how to Spray Paint like a Pro by following this step by step guide to Automotive Refinishing.

    great video, thanks for keeping it real. I've been painting 19yrs and I don't get along with a lot of painters most act like they are God's gift to painting. no runs no orange peel and no one can do it like them.
    But you keep it real 👍

    Another gem of a vid mate. Honestly the very best thing to see is someone like yourself have a small problem with a paint job, fry up, shit in the paint or whatever and you don't shit 'ya self you just fix it and show how you did it. Invaluable stuff. As always loads of facts and honest opinions. You should consider making an instructional DVD set and selling it. People would buy it because you come across as honest and enthusiastic about your trade. I'm not saying anything else or you'll end up with a big head. :0) see you on the next one.

    Word! I spray with the sata nr2000 myself hvlp and i still use my conventional sharpe guns aswell 25psi hs clear lays down relatively smooth nice atomization ive been spraying siince 1986 not as heavy in the trade as i was but being a spray painter i believe is something in your blood cause i love it and still carry great passion for slamming some clear! And making that shit shine!

    as far as having a slight orange peel on the vertical panels, could you use a high solids clear 2 coats, then follow it up with a low solids clear for the final coat of clear all in the same session? would that knock down the peel?

      I always use polish to buff the burn in area. Compound is too coarse I've found, & will start to roll your burn in back. Makes a mess & will have to be redone. Maybe it's the difference in the materials we use. I do my burn ins pretty much the same way, except I use a Sata mini jet to spray the actual blender/clear mixture. Most times all is required is little polish on the buffer if that.

    great vid , really does spray nicely the GPI. Devilbiss should hang their heads in shame putting their name on the starting line guns, the couple of people I know with them have nothing but trouble, sad part is they didn't know any better and just assumed because it was a devilbiss it would be good. They are a disgrace to the devilbiss name imo. my dummy spit for the day lol

      Thank you! I have been recently having a problem with my te20 air cap on my prolite. It's not atomizing the pain nicely and fan won't open up. But when I use the te10 it's fine. Can you help me? I use a 5 hp compressor with a devilbiss dad-500 air deccicant dryer. Can my air supply be choking?

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 років тому

      ballerbrian4u May not have enough CFM to supply the TE20, what is the pressure setting at the wall and where do you set the gun, did it used to work than after changing something stop?

    • @ballerbrian4u
      @ballerbrian4u 8 років тому +1

      +The Gunman at the wall I have it wide open to 125 and it goes down to 100 before the compressor kicks in. At the gun regulator for the te20 I have to set it at 25-26 pounds to get a decent fan but it's still narrow and won't atomize nice.

    funny how shaving door handles is agaisnt the law, yet they tell us to lock our door before driving. So door handles are useless for rescue people, as the doors are locked and thus handles desactivated . Those laws are there since before the 40s when car doors couldnt be locked at all

    • @barrythomas6043
      @barrythomas6043 8 років тому

      +Veikra There have been many instances where people have died because first responders were unable to get the doors open.. and had nothing to break the glass with. It happened in my area just recently when a car was washed from a flooded crossing , and rescuers were unable to get into the vehicle before it sank.

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 років тому +1

      Maybe on a rare occasion but you usually want clear over the base, why would you not want to clear?

    • @dinxsy8069
      @dinxsy8069 8 років тому +1

      The Gunman After watching the video again i see you did clear coat it haha, feel proper dumb.
      That was the only reason i asked as i didn't think you clear coated it, transition from base to clear in the video i didn't even notice, editing was just to good, more attention needed from myself.

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 років тому

      Dinxsy haha, sometimes under a bonnet/hood I'll just use basecoat with 5% hardener and it'll give a satin finish tho.

    • @dinxsy8069
      @dinxsy8069 8 років тому +1

      The Gunman Awesome, thanks for clarifying that. Off topic but is there anyway of removing 1K clear without affecting the basecoat? Sprayed my motorbike fairings few months back using 1K and a shitty £30 gun (sighs) i knew they were crap but tried cutting corners and paid for my choice. Basecoat came out okay clear has major orange peel. Think i recall you mentioning thinners will make 1K go back to it's liquid form? Thanks for the replies

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 років тому

      Dinxsy Yes thinners will freshen it up but not the recommended way of removing cos it'll take a long time so paint stripper is quickest, are the fairings plastic? if so there is specific strippers for plastic but sanding would be how I did it by the sounds and the base will need redoing.

      The extra is just a little cleaning kit but handy, I have all 3 needles and tips for this gun 1.4-6-8mm 1.8mm is great for primer 1.4mm base clear & 2k colour and 1.6mm for acrylic so if you won't be using acrylic the the 4&8 is probably all you need.
