    That's incredibly sad. She wanted to give her dogs the loving care she did every day, which included a morning walk. My heart is breaking for all three of them, as well as for her daughter, and all who loved her.

      Lightning rods placed on the tallest buildings in the area. I've read they could also be placed in trees. My grandparents stuck an axe in the ground so that the lightning could strike the axe and not the house. But those were tougher times. Talk to your authorities to find solutions. Sadness won't solve anything!

      No, you SHOULD always seek shelter under trees if theres no building. The idea that trees are more unsafe in a lightning storm is a very harmful myth! The most dangerous place to be is out in the open, because you’re the tallest thing the lightning can be attracted to, when you’re under a tree, you’re no longer a target but the tree is. And no if the tree gets hit it won’t impact you, as long as you’re not in a puddle that gets hit with bare feet, or touching metal that gets hit.

      I have a childhood/longtime friend who thinks or thought like you in relation to lightning strikes. He always chuckles at me when I'll quickly make my way indoors as soon as I see lightning. I recall he, I and several other friends took a trip to a beach here on the east coast and the sky was being lit up with frequent sky-to-ground lightning. I'm talking about "spider lightning." It was beautiful to see, particularly being this storm was occurring at night, but nothing in which I wanted to be outdoors. Well, I hightailed it indoors by taking off running. He got a good chuckle out of me and claimed I was "scary" and my "chances of getting hit by lightning was very slim." I told him as I've told him numerous of other times that my odds (and his) are slim, but why chance those odds by taking things lightly and getting struck by lightning. I went on to say that's not something in which you want to risk your limited odds.
      I've always respected Mother Nature. It can be quite beautiful, but also extremely dangerous.

    My cousin Matt was struck when he was 11. He spent the next 35 years in a chair, unable to do anything. He gurgled and snorted occasionally, but that was the extent of his "life." He just died a few months ago, and I've never been more relieved. I understand he was my aunt and uncle's kid, but I just couldn't understand allowing my own flesh and blood suffer like that for so many years. They should've pulled the plug soon after it happened.

      I'm not for suicide and Dr's killing patients. But people put down injured horses and old dogs to end their suffering. I'm not comparing an animals life to a humans life but sometimes it's more cruel to prolong the suffering.
      But then again I've heard stories of people waking up after 30 years of being in a coma. And then it comes down to who are we to judge who's life is worth living?
      With that being said sorry about your cousin

    • @MontgomeryWenis
      @MontgomeryWenis Рік тому +21

      @@sussybaca7256 Thank you very much. I completely agree with you. However, there were other circumstances that made that choice even harder. My aunt and uncle have lived through tragedy after tragedy. At 19, my uncle was drafted and sent to do literally unspeakable things in Vietnam. I have never heard him say one word about his time there in my 30 years. Then he fell in love and got married, but my aunt developed breast cancer. She beat that and they had two kids. Eleven mostly blissful years passed before my cousin was struck, so they had to deal with that on top of their own trauma. And with my cousin only being a little kid, I'm sure that played into their decision. My dad did tell me they either thought about or fully intended to allow him to die, but I can't recall why it didn't happen. But then to make matters worse, their only other child, my cousin Melissa, was murdered in a horrific collision in 2016 when a monster got fucked up on meth, muscle relaxers, and hard pain relievers and took a drive, running down a group of nine cyclists and killing five of them. So ending the life of their other child certainly wasn't in the books after that. But they still saw how miserable his existence was and prolonged it.

    So sad. One of the things that has always TERRIFIED me is lightening, when a casual day slow boating day on the water turned into a nightmare! . In 1980, I was out boating with my husband and his brother and his wife and after just boating up by the Hoover Dam, all of a sudden lightening began striking EVERYWHERE on he water. We were the highest thing and ONLY thing on the water being that we were in our boat. I was also 4 months pregnant with my first child. I thought that we’d get struck for sure as we hurriedly went back to our campsite which seemed like it took FOREVER! It had gotten dark so we had to call out for our dogs. When we did they barked and we were able to find camp there in the desert easier. I’ve had PTSD when it comes to lightening ever since. I feel so bad for the loved ones of Miss Mendoza and wish them strength and comfort during this sad time.🙏🏼

    I live directly on the Gulf of Mexico in SW Florida. We are the lightning capital of the world and endure tragedies like this all too often. I am often stunned and angry by the foolishness of tourists who think nothing of frolicking in the waves with their children as one of our incredibly fast moving storms roars in. People just don't bloody get it, and I've truthfully lost count of the number of occasions I've had to race into these storms to plead/ pull them off the beach. The worst are the ones who "poo-poo" my warnings, despite the black skies and flashing bolts directly overhead. Our last (local) lightning strike fatality was 3 years ago, and it's something I never hope to witness again. An "invincible" teen was boogie-boarding with friends one moment and dead the next. His two friends suffered irreversible physical and emotional damage, with both in cardiac arrest at the scene and one having to undergo a double amputation of his legs several weeks later. It's just NOT worth it, folks! If you HEAR thunder, STAY INSIDE. It's as simple as that.

    That morning I took my dog out to do his business when then I saw the lighting. The thought of being struck by lightning crossed my mind so I went back inside. May her family and friends find peace.

It looked like explosions or a war in the sky, I watched for a few minutes amazed by its power but then realized I was in danger of a lightning bolt reaching across the open air for miles just to strike me dead….Nope ….
