    i hope they do a "weight gain glow-up" one too for those who were underweight/recovering etc and the after! i've seen a good few of these tiktok types before, and i think it's good to show tht weight gain can be a positive thing too!!

      sadly most people will not want to see those types of videos. Gaining weight to be healthy is talked about less than losing weight is.

      @@legorockstar2000 you need to be objective.
      Most ppl are overweight not underweight.
      Not all ppl overweight have an eating disorders but alot of ppl who are underweight, have either one, either a medical condition to genetics and can't put on a weight at all.
      So the subject is more sensitive, need professional help etc.
      Whereas when it's weight loss that you loose on your own you can just have let yourself go a bit.
      Not that there can't be all the same factors but it's more of possibility.
      You can be a normal weight and the put on trice your weight.
      If you weight already half your normal weight you might already be 6ft under.
      It can take years to die from health problems being overweight while keeping putting weight on.
      When it's being underweight, there's no such thing, if you keep loosing weight, the limit is reached very fast to death

      @@greyscalesx I hope you realize being overweight can also be caused by a medical condition too… so can medications to treat other illnesses.

      I actually had to gain weight myself. It’s only in the past couple of years that I got above 100 pounds for the first time ever. And I had to work hard to get that, and when I got to a healthy weight, I ended up with a lot of stretch marks on my thighs

    Yumi doesn't need to lose weight, she's beautiful just as she is, although I prefer her with the long dark hair, that's just my taste, she's still beautiful. A persons outward appearance only catches someone's eye and attracts them to you, it's the persons inner beauty that keeps them there. Yumi is the complete package, outer AND inner beauty.

    I feel like maybe one reason their perception/expectation of what weightloss is supposed to look like differs from what they're seeing in these TikToks, is because the diet culture in Korea is different from the diet culture in America. Nowadays, women weightlifting and gaining muscle by actually eating adequately is more common over here, whereas over there I think it's still more common to restrict food intake and focus on cardio for exercise. Both have very different outcomes/effects on the physical appearance of one's body.

    4:44 For anyone who doesn't recognize this photo, this is Ashley Fink, an actress who was on the American tv show Glee. If that isn't proof enough that this TikToker is lying about her weight loss journey, it's pretty much impossible to lose 150 pounds in 1 month, much less without having a ton of loose, hanging skin.

  • @Lealinchen97
    @Lealinchen97 2 роки тому +61

    I wish there was also content showing and appreciating the reverse. That sometimes weighing more people look and are healthier and "more beautiful". Skinnier isn't always better or prettier. We need more representation of people fighting and celebrating GAINING weight.
    It makes me sad that we ignore the fact that being too skinny is a much greater health risk than being a bit overweight.
    This is not to invalidate the achievement of people who worked hard to loose weight and become healthier and/ or happier this way. I'm all for it if it's right for you. I just wish there was more awareness and appreciation for the opposite experience.
    Also not blaming Giggle for not showing this kind of content to them, I'm sure there is much less (if any really) of it on TikTok in the first place.

    • @maddy6192
      @maddy6192 2 роки тому +9

      I totally agree, I’d love to see that too. Normally I have zero critique of Giggle’s videos and really enjoy them but to be honest, this one had a few too many ‘skinnier = prettier’ moments for me, despite being positive in other ways (e.g. acknowledging hard work and self-satisfaction).
      I think that there needs to be a balanced message with this kind of content to avoid it leaning dangerously towards it becoming fat-phobic. I do want to acknowledge that Korean beauty standards are stricter than Western standards when it comes to weight though, which was somewhat addressed in this video and would have influenced its tone. For that reason, I don’t blame the cast or staff.
      If not a weight-gain glow-up reaction vid, then I’d love to see reactions to the trend where fashionable plus-sized women wear clothing that they aren’t “supposed” to wear according to society, and embrace their bodies and rock it! There are so many wonderful plus-sized fashion content creators out there now. 💖

    • @alskarmode

      Which study says that being underweight is a greater health risk than overweight?

    • @Lealinchen97
      @Lealinchen97 2 роки тому +2

      @@alskarmode One full (meta)-study is this:
      Sissi Cao, Rahim Moineddin, Marcelo L Urquia, Fahad Razak, Joel G Ray. J-shapedness: an often missed, often miscalculated relation: the example of weight and mortality. Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, March 2014
      But since it's an academic journal release you probably won't have access unless you are registered at a university that can give it to you.
      You can find some medical online sources summarize or share an abstract of the paper though.
      Yes, we probably need even more research to confirm this since this is still relatively new, but it gives some solid indications that we have to investigate further.
      And keep in mind, that this is based on overweight by BMI. Many people who fall into normal weight based on this, admittedly a bit flawed, system are considered overweight in the eye of society.

    • @ellemcfadyen3500
      @ellemcfadyen3500 2 роки тому +2

      @@maddy6192 though its ok to be plus size, there is a range where weight is healthy and promoting weight gain over weight loss isn't much better. Both can help improve health if done right eating good foods and exercising well :)
      I disagree with promoting plus size people and their weight as it can be very dangerous on the body and limit what your body can do. Not saying being super skinny is any better but the majority of people who experienced transformations in the video looked healthy and happier.
      Its also typically harder for people to loose weight, providing self-satisfaction and growing discipline.
      The body positivity movement is toxic at both ends as it fails to consider the health of the people, only their size and weight. As long as people are doing it for health and happiness, it should be supported.

    I feel very worried for young people in Korea and other countries. I think social media has created a superficial attitude. They think only of what a person looks like on the outside. Remember gold can be wrapped in a dirty old newspaper and poop can be wrapped in sparkly glitter. Work on the inner person. Beauty fades, but character is enduring.
