    Mahi mahi, sailfish, and big sharks all make an appearance in this kayak fishing episode from a trip to South Florida.
    In Part 1 of Robert Field's Extreme Offshore Kayak Fishing miniseries, Robert takes the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro from Dallas, TX to Pompano Beach, FL to prefish for the Extreme Kayak Fishing Summer Slam I Tournament. On day 1, Robert heads out with Brian Nelli from Pushin' Water Kayak Charters in hopes of landing his first sailfish or mahi mahi from the kayak. After a slow start and a visit from a big shark, the action heats up in a big way.
    Stay tuned for Part 2, where Robert will try to knock out one of his ultimate bucket list species later in the trip.

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

    how do u keep from getting pulled by the fish since in your in a kayak catching those big fish I would think they could tow you?sorry im only familiar with freshwater fishing mostly

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  8 років тому

      The big fish always tow you around for a while, that's the fun part! Once they wear out you can get them closer to the kayak. Fishing kayaks are more stable than traditional kayaks, so you can handle bigger fish next to them without flipping. It's always a risk though, I know plenty of guys who have flipped on top of fish, and I've flipped my kayak a few times also.

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  8 років тому

      Well depends which fish you're talking about, I have several combos I use. I like Penn reels for spinning in saltwater, their rods are fine too. For conventional reels (like the red one I have in this vid) I use Truth Reels, this one is their SG (Small Game). Incredible reels. For line I typically have 40lb braid main line.

    Great video, but man you're make me nervous when I see you dangling your feet in the water. I worked with this guy at Boeing, and about a year after he retired he was killed by a shark while kayak fishing in Hawaii. I know your chances of winning the lottery are probably better than being bitten by a shark, but you might want to think about it.

      +Michael Coomer I am very familiar with that story and it was tragic. Very sad to hear. I think that was a one in a million occurence but I am very mindful when I've got any part of me in the water. I do it a lot less than I used to.

  • @JWBrewer73
    @JWBrewer73 6 років тому +1

    Up front I'm speaking as a novice who has only fished blue water once in my life. But about 8:20 it seems to be a sketchy situation, where he brought that fish in way too close with the amount of fight it had left. All it would have taken would have been one flip of the tail, for your buddy to have been impaled through the chest. It was pointed right at him.

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  6 років тому

      There is a risk associated to having that fish next to the kayak, but with experience, you can tell when they are about to thrash. He guides for those fish for his full time job. Even if it had tried to jump and he wasn’t ready for that, you’d have about the same chance of getting struck by lightning twice than that fish impaling you. Their bill isn’t sharp like a sword or anything.

    Ok so I don't watching fishing videos at all and I rarely fish, and when I do fish I only do it on lakes. Why would you want to bait out a shark? Is it just to see one? Idk so I wanted to know what the pros in the comments had to say

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  8 років тому

      Because they're fun to catch! I drove all the way to Florida and the other fish weren't cooperating, so I figured I'd go for a shark just so I could catch SOMETHING. When that didn't work either, I was feeling discouraged.

      Fishing Rod thanks man! I've been slacking but I'll be producing this 3-part series as fast as I can. It's a lot of editing hours, lot of late nights ahead of me. Part 2 will blow Part 1 out of the water.

    You must have saved up some serious cash to have all that gear? Each boat with all the accessories must be close to $10,000. Amazing to me. The guide dude is way cool and it looks like you’re having fun. A friend of mine told me to not work too long as you get so physically handicapped that you are really limited in what you can do? What is the purpose of the red line? You don’t have to worry about sharks?? I always wear my life vest when I’m on the water. My life has only depended upon my life vest twice and when you need it there is no warning and no time to put it on!! So I agree 100%; always wear your life vest, Tom Purtzer

      My boat with everything in this video cost closer to $3,500 probably. Much of it was donated or discounted by sponsors. No purpose to the red line and I use a fluorocarbon leader so the fish don’t see it.

      Thanks for your comment!! It was very honest and gave me hope that I might be able to do this. I’ve fished in the ocean hundreds of times but always in a 20 foot deep hulled boat. We used to catch salmon with ease, giant rock fish and loads of crabs. Then the fishing went to pot in a few years. The salmon limit went from 3 fish a day to 1 fish a day (had to be caught on Tuesday or Thursday, smaller rock fish (limits dropped from 15 a day to 5 a day of dinky fish!!), and whole fishing communities dried up quickly.
      Do you think I could learn on my own or should I get lessons?? You are entertaining, believable, truthful, and educational!! Keep it up, Tom Purtzer

      +Jose Corujo thanks Jose and welcome to the channel! The Keys are still pretty torn up from Hurricane Irma, but I’m hoping to swing down at least part of the way this winter. Maybe he can meet me closer to Islamorada. I’ll hit him up and see what we can do!

    What kind of kayak are you using

  • @Taughtsee
    @Taughtsee 7 років тому +1

    Any advice on a kayak for $1000 or less? Maybe a little more. Something versatile. Offshore and inshore use. There are lots of brands. It's hard to navigate sometimes.

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  7 років тому +1

      Hard to find something for offshore and inshore for under $1,000. Inshore is much simpler. For inshore, the Perception Pescador Pro, Pelican Catch 120 or Wilderness Systems Ride 135 are solid. For offshore I'd look at Ocean Kayaks. You can go offshore in anything if conditions are right, but in rougher water you may find yourself wishing you spent more. I'd stick with inshore until you get really comfortable on the yak first anyways.

      Robert Field- That's the plan. I just want something I can grow as a kayak fisherman with. But I do realize my limited budget is a downfall.
      Thanks a lot for your reply! I love your channel.

      I use Penn for spinning and a mix of stuff for conventional. I like the Seigler Reels.
