Great shootout. The song choice is unique and maybe not to everyone’s taste, but i think it does a great job demonstrating a variety of tones from chest, mix, and falsetto, clean and grit in two very different vocal centers which is extremely helpful to hear how the mics handle all these variables.

Thanks for all parties involved in putting this together. Definitely not an easy feat. One of the most comprehensive mic shootouts.

Telefunken 251e is incomparable, although the others sound very good, I think Neumann Fet 47 and Neumann U67 are perfect for them... thanks for the shootouts

Excellent demonstration and comparison of high end cms. I liked Peluso- 280, U 47 fet, U87ai. Peluso sounded better than U 87ai.

Interesting comparison! Thanks for the hard work involved in producing it.
For me, the standouts were T-funk 251, Flea C12, and Neumann M49V. It was interesting to hear the latter against Myburgh M1, which I own. I would not have expected them to sound as close as they did in this comparison.
I do think that not all mics tested here benefit from such close placement. For the Wunder and both Heisermans, the saturation artifacts began to outweigh the default sonic character of the mics. The U67 would have been much more fun if it was only saturating on the peaks.
In ad copy, the Sony C-80 is billed as sounding similar to the C-100, but I heard very little resemblance. This was not the best U87 I've ever heard, but it still crushed the TLM-103. Mojave M-37 and Shure SM7B were revealed as "character actors" suited to special occasions rather than constant use. Oh, that poor R44! "Step AWAY from the microphone!"

Funny how different everyone's ears can be. I thought the Telefunken 251 had way more saturation artifacts than the Heiserman 251. I also though the Myburgh and M49v were more different than similar. That said, I totally agree with your thoughts on the two Sony mics and the Mojave 37.

I like the Flea 12 the most! Then the U47.

good job! i just want to add that in a worldclass studio in the mic selection process there is often a much bigger difference when vintage (real) stock also is included. modern production mics tend to sound more similar, often because using parts of current manufacturers, which quite often are very good, but not necessarily true to the original. for example it would have been a good idea to include either a real tube u47 (vf14) or at least a andreas grosser U47 or wagner u47. telefunken usa u47 are not in the same league. but really good decision to also add the aea 44.

Thank you! The Myburgh M1 was actually designed by Andreas Grosser. It's not trying to clone any particular design. He just set off to create a top quality microphone based on his experience and availability of components. The build quality is second to none.

Vintage mics are so different it makes no sense to compare any single mic to modern mics. 2 vintage vintage mics often sound more different to each other than 2 completely different brands. For example a friend has 2 Neumann 249B from the mid 60s and they sound more different to eachother than any two mics in the locker possibly could. Edit: I should add I have access to quite a lot of vintage Neumann's and hardly ever prefer them to modern mics in blind test. Once people know then they magically change their mind...

Why do people who do these reviews always pick shitty songs to demo the microphones ? It`s honestly very annoying to try to concentrate on the differences when the singer changes the key and yells in a ear shattering uncontrolable way....

Exactly! Song is absolutely horrible with unbearable vulgarity and sarcasm baked in.

Hi @zilamike. Sorry you didn't like our choice of artists. We have more variety coming soon so please subscribe to hear some different voices and music choices. If you get a chance to see Faux Real live you might come around. It's possibly the best live show of any DIY Los Angeles group right now.

@@ProvidenceSoundandVision I`m sure the artist in this video is great, i`m just saying that the choice of song is bad for the listener trying to discern the differences between microphones .

@@pretzelvillage8288i hear no vulgarity or sarcasm? You might not like the song, but i don’t really get why you’re offended by it.

Navigating through numerous microphones and managing two talents simultaneously feels overwhelming. The challenge lies in recalling the optimal microphone for each individually, and I find myself getting lost in the process. But thanks anyway.

Thank you for your feedback. It was challenging to present so many microphone with two tonal changes per mic on two singers. We are a new channel and your feedback helps us improve as we grow. We just added chapter navigation for easy navigation to each microphone type and singer. Please let us know if this makes it easier for now. Thank you!
