The official story from Nintendo is "Once Tyson landed on his butt, so did his endorsement". So when he lost to Douglas in February of '90 that was it for his smash hit NES game.
These old episodes are super funny. Glad to see how much you guys have improved the quality of this show. It started out like two dudes talking about things like normal, and now it feels like an actual show and I love it! You guys should do a pac man special though and talk about every pacman game... Well the ones that shine out that is..
"Only home console was made for the Turbo Graphix CD" Right on. Outside of the arcade, this was basically a computer game. Platforms: Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Arcade, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, TurboGrafx CD, ZX Spectrum
You folks are probably too young to remember this but the original Street Fighter arcade game had a big "pad" near the joystick and how hard your fighter hit was dependent upon how hard you slammed your fist into it. Sound crazy? It was: farm8.staticflickr.com/7189/6878549386_74e228e801.jpg www.4gamer.net/games/131/G013165/20120123001/SS/003.jpg It also didn't work very well, was impossible to control and if you actually managed to pull off a fireball, it pretty much destroyed your opponent in 1 hit.
It's really not that bad for a 1987 fighter. Of course, the sequel improved greatly in every aspect and more or less birthed the fighting genre as we know it, but in 1987 there wasn't a lot of competition. Most fighters were either martial arts "sports games" or single player only.
9:15 You're absolutely right, Dave. I live in France, and we don't have any freedom of choice. In fact, it's in the constitution that we are all required by law to prefer Data East's Ring King over Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out. I can only dream of one day moving to the land of opportunity so I will be allowed to freely love whichever game I choose. 'MURICA!
yes it is, and if you ask me, the snes "sequel" is directly inspired on the arcade version , camera angle, the "transparent" character and the overall "feel" of the game
It is. The Arcade had a wire frame mac rather than the transparent snes one just like Sebastian Gomez said. The snes one seems to be like the arcade one. Also The sequel to the nes one is the wii one because they are similar.
12:06 Wow, the Master System version looks impressive for just an 8-bit console, it must have been more powerful than the Nes, coming out a few years later certainly contributed to that.
Great episode! I think they named Super Street Fighter II X like this: - What should we name the Saturn Street Fighter game? - Super Street Fighter II Turbo. - No, this version has one pixel different from that game, we must come up with something new. - OK, lets replace "Turbo" with a placeholder "X" for now and change it if we can come up with something better before the deadline. - Excellent!
In my opinion Mike Tyson's punch out is better than super punch out. I'm not arguing with you Dave, you did say alot of people would disagree but i think super punch out could of been much better.
As much as some people hate to talk about sports titles, Tecmo Super Bowl '91 was better than the original Tecmo Bowl that came out in '89. TSB had all 28 existing teams at the time versus TB's 12, and had an 8-play playbook vs TB's 4. Not to mention TSB also has one helluva cult following.
I agree with Dave about the scrolling map screen in Ghosts and Goblins. I've never even played this game cause I keep resetting it so I can see the map scroll over and over again.
I think you may be referring to Final Fight, which was in development as a Street Fighter game prior to being rebranded. Anyway, if we nitpick even more, it's actually Human Killing Machine, the dismal quasi-sequel to the original Street Fighter developed by Tiertex for the British home computers.
I enjoyed punch out growing up, when super punch out came out it was just amazing. It took the series to another level and whoever did not like it probably was getting their ass kicked.....lol
You know whats crazy...these video's are only going to gain popularity because new gamers are starting to realize that the old games are better than the new stuff.
The most recent one for me was the Zero Escape series. 999 was absolutely amazing but Virtue's Last Reward just wiped the floor with 999 in nearly every way, except the control (which was slightly worse but still good) and the story was pretty much on the same level (which is not bad in any way since both were mind blowing).
Catching up on all your previous shows, as I just discovered your channel a week ago. Great show, and I do love the (intentional i hope) corniness :) Just wanted to point out that the original punch out for arcade is actually a lot more like the SNES Punch Out than the NES Punch Out...so the NES version is actually the "sequel" in a way. Just google Punch Out arcade and you'll see what I mean. Keep up the good work!
I'm sure there are places in the world that still have the bubonic plague but I'm sure some kid from Texas, who watches internet video game shows, is more than likely not to contract it... I hope there's a law against people with bubonic plague being able to write and send letters through the mail freely! Where's the Purell?
I didn't have a problem with that, mainly because Virtue's Last Reward did an excellent job of making sure we're not going through the same dialogue over and over. The only thing I found worse was the controls, which still wasn't bad, just something to get used to.
i loved virtue's last reward. one thing i didn't like was the fact that the skip already read dialogue didn't work very well at times and the fact that you had to keep checking by pressing the fast foward button to see if it will skip dialogue where as in 999 you simply pressed right to see if it will skip. but those are just minor gripes for an awesome series.
I had Fighting Street back in the day, and yep, boy was it bad. I always thought that Gen's line "You are big fool" was "You are big lose," which was awesomely weird. I'm actually disappointed to find out what he's really saying. lol
Ghost 'N Goblins is actually pretty good on the Sega Saturn or Arcade. But you are right, Ghouls 'N Ghost is light years ahead of it in graphics, music and gameplay. One of my favorite games ever.
When Sega gave away the Virtua Fighter Remix to Saturn Owners, I lost the receipt and was worried they wouldn't give it to me. They told me I need a receipt to prove I purchased a Saturn, but they sent it to me anyways! Thanks Sega!
Good news! That "poor kid" wrote us again just recently! This is only episode 24, but check out episode 73. You'll see he still loves us fat, balding, cancerous losers. :)
Dudes, Mike Tyson's Punch Out was already a sequel. The original Punch Out had a transparent fighter, like SPO, but he was wireframe. Also, Mike Tyson was aquitted of rape. Saying he decided to rape someone isn't accurate, and could be considered slander, I dunno. I really have no feelings toward Mike Tyson one way or another, it just bugs me that the old "mud sticks" adage is usually true. It makes it easier for people to use the legal system frivolously, as a weapon, for one thing.
+Mychael Darklighter He was convicted of raping Desiree Washington which is why he ended up in jail for 3 years and missed some of the peak of his career. He lost the appeal, too.
Very very true! In fact we just covered Gun Force 2/Geo Storm in our Left in the Arcades 2 episode which is currently the second newest video if you visit our channel.
I totally agree on super punch-out. Some hilarious opponents in that one, and beating them dizzy was a blast! I gotta disagree on the music tho. Sure it wasn't as memorable, but at least there's more than two tracks!
LOl okay at 3:27 i definitely LMOL laughing at this point!! "ghouls 'n ghost is one of my favorites, it makes ghost 'n goblins look TRASH!!" just killed the franchise like it was a small dog!! LOL!!!! great review lol!!
I'm surprised that Punch Out for the Wii wasn't mentioned. Also I think the name change for Street Fighter into Fighter Street was there was an NES game called Street Fighter 2010, I could be wrong about that tho.
I never was a fan of Street Fighter II. I'm not entirely sure why, though. It could be because it was the first game we owned after we bought a Genesis because our Saturn forgot how to boot games. I guess I just associate with not being able to play Nights, Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Bug, Need for Speed, and all of our Saturn games at the time.
The whole time I was screaming Street Fighter inside my head lol. Virtua Fighter oy vey. Oh damn so jarring to see them load games without the added sound FX lol.
Great call on virtua fighter and its sequel. I hadnt thought of em but i totally agree 2 was a great improvement. I think i have a much more favorable view of street fighter 1 than you guys do. There were a few positive aspects of the game that didnt get touched on.
John madden football you should talk about cause its came really far since the original game. Like no games had more sequels or improved so much since 8 bit - 16 bit era.
Well I meant a demo from Uncharted 1, hopefully you got that and you aren't thinking I meant a demo for UC2 (I don't like playing sequels without the previous games). But anyway, you know how different tastes can be, thanks for your reasonable response anyway.
I might be in the minority but I prefer some of the NES games in this list over their follow-up games. NES games were a lot tougher in some respects, but also a lot simpler in others. I guess I was always just fascinated what developers were able to achieve in gaming with just an A and B button.
Off the top of my head: Super Mario Bros./Lost Levels and SMB 3 Arkham Asylum and Arkham City Metroid/Metroid 2 and Super Metroid F-Zero and F-Zero X and F-Zero GX
You do realize that both Ghosts and Goblins and Ghouls n' Ghosts were arcade games before they came to home consoles, right? Super Ghouls in Ghosts is the sequel to Ghouls n' Ghosts. Otherwise it would have been called Super Ghosts n' Goblins. The consoles these games are on have nothing to do with this. Otherwise games like Rolling Thunder 2 and 3 can't be sequels to Rolling Thunder because part 1 is on the NES and parts 2 and 3 are on the Genesis.
Pity that none of the good arcade ports of Ghouls 'n Ghosts had the awesome Amiga soundtrack by Tim Follin. Or the Commodore 64 soundtrack, also by Tim Follin.
I revisit this video periodically just to listen to the voices from Fighting Street. Pure gold.
I definitely thought of "Street Fighter" first instead of Virtua Fighter when a fighting game is mentioned..
Everyone does
For me it's Soul Calibur (although these days it's For Honor...)
The official story from Nintendo is "Once Tyson landed on his butt, so did his endorsement". So when he lost to Douglas in February of '90 that was it for his smash hit NES game.
These old episodes are super funny. Glad to see how much you guys have improved the quality of this show. I hope Dwayne is doing ok all these years later
He died
He'd have been 18 years old now... probably fingered a few girls. So sad.
@ you'd be surprised how debauchery is everywhere with millenials
Oh my gosh, I love how you guys had the foresight to have continuity from the other episode :p
love GameSack!
The original street fighter was also ported to the PC, and if you were wondering... it's even worse.
"Only home console was made for the Turbo Graphix CD"
Right on. Outside of the arcade, this was basically a computer game.
Platforms: Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Arcade, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, TurboGrafx CD, ZX Spectrum
Soo true on Ghouls on the Genesis music! its so great! we are getting old :(
I really enjoy your series. I try to turn in and watch every episode!
"I've always wanted to shoot up!" LOL.
The dubbing at the end was hilariously awesome! :D
Thanks for showing the PC Engine version of Street Fighter 2 - a great conversion that's really overlooked!
You folks are probably too young to remember this but the original Street Fighter arcade game had a big "pad" near the joystick and how hard your fighter hit was dependent upon how hard you slammed your fist into it. Sound crazy? It was:

They had that exact machine in a Burger King of all places, in Portsmouth UK back in the days. Never seen an arcade cab in a BK since lol
Lol for some reason I read it as "the original Sesame Street fighter".
THAT SHOULD EXIST!
Thumbs up for Dwayne, lets see him through this!
it was just a joke fucktard
THE ALMIGHTY LOAF
Yes, fucktard, my comment was exactly that...
Frabbledabble you shouldve made it more clear then fucktard
+THE ALMIGHTY LOAF he did you just doint understand humer
lordaizen66 i guess i dont understand "humer"
Mike Tyson's punch out is so iconic. Super Punch Out was released with a whisper.
The orginal Street fighter is so bad and so forgettable it never made it into it's own anniversary collection for the PS2.
Yet it is so good that it made it into the Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2.
It's really not that bad for a 1987 fighter. Of course, the sequel improved greatly in every aspect and more or less birthed the fighting genre as we know it, but in 1987 there wasn't a lot of competition. Most fighters were either martial arts "sports games" or single player only.

I can only dream of one day moving to the land of opportunity so I will be allowed to freely love whichever game I choose. 'MURICA!
Here in Russia we are not allowed to choose Super Punch Out over the original Punch Out or we get sent to Gulag. I wish I lived in America. :c
Dave on the left? What a horror these early videos were.
I know this video is from 2011, but isn't Mike Tyson's PO a sequal to an arcade game?
yes it is, and if you ask me, the snes "sequel" is directly inspired on the arcade version , camera angle, the "transparent" character and the overall "feel" of the game
It is. The Arcade had a wire frame mac rather than the transparent snes one just like Sebastian Gomez said. The snes one seems to be like the arcade one. Also The sequel to the nes one is the wii one because they are similar.
superQuizzie "wire frame" that was the term i was looking for jaja
Great channel! Thanks for adding the Saturn ports for us Saturn fans!
12:06 Wow, the Master System version looks impressive for just an 8-bit console, it must have been more powerful than the Nes, coming out a few years later certainly contributed to that.
Love the fight at the end, u guys are awesome
I wonder how Dwayne is doing...
Street fighter 2 on the snes was $74.99. Two months allowance.
Best game channel on yt. Laughing so hard.
Great episode! I think they named Super Street Fighter II X like this:
- What should we name the Saturn Street Fighter game?
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
- No, this version has one pixel different from that game, we must come up with something new.

That hardcore creeper smile at the beginning hahahaha

Same here!! I immediately scrolled down to see if it was in the info!
The ending is awesome.
the best thing in the internet is when watching two old men couple talking about vintage video game and their childhood
I know the feeling, my bike was also stolen.
I agree with Dave about the scrolling map screen in Ghosts and Goblins. I've never even played this game cause I keep resetting it so I can see the map scroll over and over again.
actually, if we nitpick a little, the sequel of street fighter 1 is fatal fury 1
I think you may be referring to Final Fight, which was in development as a Street Fighter game prior to being rebranded.
Anyway, if we nitpick even more, it's actually Human Killing Machine, the dismal quasi-sequel to the original Street Fighter developed by Tiertex for the British home computers.
Mr Dream was loosely based off Rocky Marciano. Cool fact huh?
It's Akira's theme from Virtua Fighter 2. You can find it on the Saturn version of Virtua Fighter 2.
I enjoyed punch out growing up, when super punch out came out it was just amazing. It took the series to another level and whoever did not like it probably was getting their ass kicked.....lol

Fantastic and funny ending of this video with those voices
Catching up on all your previous shows, as I just discovered your channel a week ago.

Just google Punch Out arcade and you'll see what I mean.
Keep up the good work!
Yup, you can shoot up and down in Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Super Ghhous 'n Ghosts (a SNES exclusive) you can only shoot left and right.
I'm sure there are places in the world that still have the bubonic plague but I'm sure some kid from Texas, who watches internet video game shows, is more than likely not to contract it... I hope there's a law against people with bubonic plague being able to write and send letters through the mail freely! Where's the Purell?
HA ha ha ha, oh shit. Amazing mock battle was hilarious guys! thanks for the great episode
Dwayne’s skeleton says he is still waiting.... 🤣
Hang in there, Dwayne.
I didn't have a problem with that, mainly because Virtue's Last Reward did an excellent job of making sure we're not going through the same dialogue over and over. The only thing I found worse was the controls, which still wasn't bad, just something to get used to.
TMNT. Turtles in time = Greatest Beat Em Up evar.
i loved virtue's last reward. one thing i didn't like was the fact that the skip already read dialogue didn't work very well at times and the fact that you had to keep checking by pressing the fast foward button to see if it will skip dialogue where as in 999 you simply pressed right to see if it will skip. but those are just minor gripes for an awesome series.
Loved the ending!!!
Nice episode, I would so love to see you guys do the 16 bit Madden games.
Joe always ,asked me laugh: “I’m surprised he’s not made of mode 7’
I remember playing Street Fighter on my Commodore 64.
Got the game in the bargain bin at Walmart back in the 80's.
I had Fighting Street back in the day, and yep, boy was it bad. I always thought that Gen's line "You are big fool" was "You are big lose," which was awesomely weird. I'm actually disappointed to find out what he's really saying. lol
A show featuring only Street Fighter would be simply GREAT!
Thanks Sega!
street fighter 2 is that good i forgot that i never even heard of street fighter 1 when i was young
Good news! That "poor kid" wrote us again just recently! This is only episode 24, but check out episode 73. You'll see he still loves us fat, balding, cancerous losers. :)
You use the block button in combination with the punch and kick buttons to grab in Virtua Fighter
I was on the website and was like wow an old episode... FART NOISE IMMEDIATELY. i love game sack
Dudes, Mike Tyson's Punch Out was already a sequel. The original Punch Out had a transparent fighter, like SPO, but he was wireframe.

I have no idea in retrospect why I made that mistake. Cheers for the correction.
heh, i know that special edition guile theme at the end. havent heard that album in a while.
awesome episode guys
When I bought Gouls n Ghosts when I was a kid, it was 89 dollars, and totally worth it.
Ninja gaiden 2004, Mortal Kombat 2, Sonic 3/Knuckles were also good candidates Good vid!
I'm as big a Mega Drive fanboy as you'll find, but yeah, I don't wanna hear about Madden very much.
Cool shirts as usual!
Dave, Joe those shirts are just awsome, I need to know where you guys got them.
I would prefer the nes punch out over super punch out, but I think the wii punch out is the better sequel.
The Turbo Grafx has an official 6 button controlller.
cool video as always! it is great that you can shoot up and down on ghouls and ghosts. it was very helpfull
7:30 lol those early meme-ers were really ahead of their time 😂
Hmm. Coincidentally, I beat ghouls and ghosts just a couple hours ago. I love that game.
if u guys havnt yet u should do an episode based on games that were ment to be released but never was. for example Star Fox 2
They always talk about ghost and goblins but they have never talked about Maximo. Honestly I don't think anyone even remembers it was ever made.
Fun fact: There was a Dukes of Hazzard episode about the bubonic plague. Seriously.
Thats some great voice acting in Street Fighter take that Uncharted. XD
Sick track, I was wondering the same thing.
I'm surprised that Punch Out for the Wii wasn't mentioned. Also I think the name change for Street Fighter into Fighter Street was there was an NES game called Street Fighter 2010, I could be wrong about that tho.

The power punch is in Super punch out. Instead of double tapping the special button, just hit it once. :P
Street Fighter for the Master System; who knew?
Virtua Fighter still being the best fighting game series for me :)
The voice in Fighting Street at 11.00 sound like Sylvester Stallone...
John madden football you should talk about cause its came really far since the original game. Like no games had more sequels or improved so much since 8 bit - 16 bit era.

That ending was great
Off the top of my head:
Super Mario Bros./Lost Levels and SMB 3
Arkham Asylum and Arkham City
Metroid/Metroid 2 and Super Metroid
F-Zero and F-Zero X and F-Zero GX
I like how moody the show was at this time. :D
You do realize that both Ghosts and Goblins and Ghouls n' Ghosts were arcade games before they came to home consoles, right? Super Ghouls in Ghosts is the sequel to Ghouls n' Ghosts.
