Yeah, I've been asking for something like this for a few years now for BF6. Not a full 24 hours per match obviously, but since the average conquest match takes 30-45 minutes maybe 4-8 hours could pass over those 30-45 minutes without feeling like time is going by unrealistically. It would allow a match to start at 2pm with the sun up in the sky and it slowly falls during the match until it hits the horizon and the sunset starts to fade in. After a bit the sun starts to fully set and all the street lights turn on and more players start equipping flashlights and nods. Starting a BF match during the day and having it end at night just sounds so sick to me.
The only way BF makes a comeback is to somehow incorporate all the innovations and mechanics that are now staples since BF was the top dog, more than a decade ago now. If they can somehow nail the feel of being a cog in a war machine, while making it fun & accessible to the casual gamer, they’ll have done it. But not only is that a big ask for any studio, I have zero faith in dice to be able to pull off anything revolutionary or innovating. They’re dead and have been since BF1
@@afewsnakes Well they are modelling BF6 after BF3, so that is somewhat hopeful at least. I'm just happy they are going back to the class system, and a darker/grittier art direction. Everything I've heard and seen so far for BF6, I'm pretty happy with. We will see though. Also I think trying to make it accessible to everyone isn't a great idea, personally. That is what I felt they tried to do with 2042.

Key thing to remember is that this game feels like battlefield did before every FPS needed snappy gunplay and esports features. You just get to hang out in a server.
As an old BF2 player who was massively disappointed by BF3 as the franchise became more and more "arcadey" I agree. But also Arma has way more realism and attention to detail than BF ever did.
I thought the same thing, but you'd need to go back to BF1942 or BF:Vietnam to get gameplay similar to this. Arma: Reforger is alot more complicated (bleeding etc) but the pace of the play and the strategy and tactics required to progress are very reminiscent of the earlier battlefield games. DICE, take note!
Got this game in 2022, 2024 came around and I ended up playing along side jack, shroud and drewski all in the same year, little me watching your bf3 videos would never have believed it.

Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. A game that came out 20 years ago had these features/technology. Crazy to think about.

I really want to enjoy this game. The gear, inventory system, and combat are all incredible. But when you’re playing solo, you can easily go 15-20 minutes without seeing an enemy. This game is heavily vehicle dependent to get around. When playing solo, it’s difficult to find people to coordinate movements with you. I have over 100 hours in squad and hell let loose. Reforger is BY FAR the slowest pace. By a mile.

On the topic of “next battlefield needs ___”, one thing I never hear people say, that I feel is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, is that the maps need good spacing. The 128 vs 64 player cap arguments aren’t necessary bc the problem with 128 players as opposed to 64 is really just a map design issue. This video really showcases how important it is for the maps (in combined arms games) to be BIG. There needs to be significant travel time between points (>player count = >distances) and the respawns should not let people warp around the map without beacons/squad joining. The problem with 2042 128player matches is that the maps are way too easy to get around from point to point w/o vehicles and there isn’t enough capture points. Capture points need to be all equally important so that players don’t bunch up at 1 place w/o being severely punished at other points; and, they need to be spread out far enough so that fights going on at 1 point do not bleed into another point’s battles. In more recent BF games the maps seem to have gotten smaller and I think the idea is to get rid of that classic “walking simulator” complaint that a lot of people have where whenever you respawn you’ll be running 500 meters to get back into the action only to die and have to repeat…but that is BF!🤷♂️ Transport vehicles have lost all purpose…I mean look at this video! How awesome is it to see a team of players jamming into the choppers to go attack a point and having to fight off other vehicles to get there?! It’s incredible! That’s a feeling BF needs! Huge flanks that take 5 min of running to get around, having the space to plan and set up with your group without spawning into bullets flying around everywhere, having the play space for those juicy loooong 3 inches of screen space bullet drop snipes and huge open field tank throw downs. You just don’t get that anymore, you spawn and within a few seconds you’re right in the middle of the action. I can understand why they feel that that is what we want - long runs back to the action seem like a negative thing…but it’s that space that lets us feel like we can make a successful flank if we go wide enough. It’s that space that lets us think we can be sneaky cause there’s so much room for their team to cover, we can likely get past them. It’s that space that gives us some confidence to fly a chopper into battle knowing we got a ton of airspace to work with without 25 shoulder-mounted rockets, 4 AA vehicles, and 6 other attack aircraft locking onto me the second I finally get a chopper spawn. It’s that space that allows an incredible mix of urban warfare in and around the objectives while also providing those tactical natural-cover-only fights in between them. Most importantly, big maps slow things down when done right. We just don’t need that instantaneous non-stop fast paced action in BF games. Big maps encourage better, more balanced vehicle play while increasing the importance of teamwork through transport vehicles. When designed well they keep people spread across many objectives so that lobbies don’t all end up jammed into a single COD map centered within a big empty battlefield of wasted space. They allow casual players to dig into the niche roles that many BF players love, without constantly being under duress of sweaty sliding swinging McKays - many people aren’t great with guns or just come to BF because there’s other roles to take up…they want to transport, repair, play anti-vehicle, build reinforcements, patrol the waters in their BOATS (WE NEED BOATS!!!!), set up defenses on less populated points, provide medic, resupply, and recon support….but a lot of this feels impossible and unimportant in recent years because it’s claustrophobic and everywhere you go there’s 20 enemy’s with sight lines on you…you spawn and then feel like a helpless newborn sea turtle running to the water amidst a swarm of seagulls. 😂
thats a fundamental issue with modern bf, squad spawns out side of maybe squad leader completely break the flow of combat.. spawns should be objectives, deployable vehicles and a buildable spawn for each squad but that will never happen becouse it slows down the game and bf has to play like cod now a days.. we will never get the bf we want but thats fine.. id rather play squad or the like any way
Good write-up. What I liked about older BFs was exactly the sort of 'rhythm' you're talking about. The approach, anticipation, ACTION!!! A lull, regrouping, tension builds.... ACTION! When things kicked off, it would be manic - and could be every bit as frenzied as an arena shooter - made even more so because there was time for that tension to build, before all hell breaks loose. Paradoxically, _constant_ action gets boring quickly, because there's no real variety in the gameplay. You need those highs and lows, as it were.
I love everything about this game except for the pacing. I have over 100 hours in both squad and hell let loose. Reforger is easily the slowest paced by a long shot. Playing solo is rough sometimes. The game is heavily vehicle dependent to get around and working with randoms can be difficult. You can EASILY go 15-20 minutes at a time without ever being in combat in this game. That’s a huge turn off when you only have 1-3 hours to play.
@@teepee2531 it's an arma game, it's up to the community to make servers with closer objectives and faster pacing. The devs won't ever force this game into being paced like squad, and if it does happen, the community would riot.
i love mods so much for silly additions like that There used to be a bright pink holo sight (like the casing of it) on wcs for no reason. There's also vietnam server where dudes are running around in farmer straw hats and flipflops

The thing that has always made ARMA great is its flexible modularity. Reforger is no exception and is finally reaching the point where the community is making it worth playing.
@Tomographic puts so much effort into learning every game he plays especially fps ones. How he can remember considerable the amount of titles he plays is amazing!
I think there could be a lot of demand for a more realistic BF-esque game that isn't *too* restrictive (except maybe for the number of snipers and such). Squad is kinda like this but the learning curve is fairly steep and sometimes you don't find people who want to play commander/officer. Hell Let Loose almost strikes the right balance but you still need someone willing to play commander as well. Insurgency Sandstorm is more CQB but some game modes are basically a mini-BF. Battlebit was also trying to be a bit more realistic but honestly, playing with Roblox graphics isn't everyone's cup of tea.
This game is so much fun, i thought I liked squad but gave this a try and with some friends and enjoy it much more than squad. 100% worth trying if your thinking about it specially with friends as well

Sometimes abstracting up complicated systems is better because it means things look and feel how they are meant to vs some very realistic thing done poorly by the user so it doesn't feel realistic as a result Arma has always done excellent job of removing the faff while presenting systems as how they ment to "feel"

This game is the first game in a long time to take everything to a next level. Truly feels like the first next gen game despite its bugs. There is thousands of hours of content to play in reforger if you know how to combine mods well.
arma has been around for years. Id technically say start citizen is the first to take it to next level. Multiple planets that take like 15 minutes and longer to fly between each other never mind the size of the worlds and the facts it has multiple systems with multiple planets and moons in each of them. You can spend your full time on one planet nevermind the planets in the different systems. The amount of things that could be possible in that game is endless. could basically have most things in one game, depending what planet, moon, ship or solar system your in
Did you know Arma Reforger is out on the PS5 also? Me neither until recently, I bought it 3 days ago but it came out on the PS5 on the 12th of December 2024. It's pretty good, a little rough around the edges with some performance issues (Screen tearing if you try to deviate to Performance mode), button mapping not matching the tutorials and inventory management being a bit of a pain to navigate. I'm still working through the tutorials and hope to join into a game in the next couple of days. So much to learn but I've dreamed of playing Arma for a few years.
If you want the real battlefield type experience play Arma Conflicts Vietnam 67 or Insurgency Conflict they shaped their whole server around battlefield and they’re like the 3rd most popular servers
Been trying this the past few days, and it really feels like BF2 did back in the day. More slow, more methodical, less sprinting and sliding, dolphin diving style gameplay like in current BF games. This is a more SIM version of BF and it's awesome.
Me and my buddy played last week and had a blast. Ran supplies, took over bases, died together in a chopper hit by a rocket. Fun times! Had a great squad and we all became friends quickly. Laughing the whole time
Love this game. But bye guys use the proximity chat. Using external coms like discord is lame and it robs the people around you from hearing your fun talks 😁 Honestly proximity chat is one of the best parts in this game. I heard so many cool and funny things. And I love the crazy darkness when only the moon and your flashlight illuminate the night. This whole game is just awesome. I hope they’ll put some more details in there like from the trailers like animations for fixing cars and maybe changing a tire. So many people can’t drive and I love getting cars and trucks fixed again.
Yeah i agree with that. When solo on server and team up with stranger against same as us, proxymity chat make game lot funny and force player to balance between communication and sound concealment. Whenever i see the some kind of reforger video that acting like tactical but using discord, i just hate them.
We usually look at the uniform to identify an enemy, not the weapon. You know? Some players take the Discord communications as cheating, cause in game they can hear you if you’re talking too much with your mates, due the proximity voice chat, also in game there’s a function that limits how much range your radio signal has, if you’re too far away from an allied radio repeater you can’t listen the rest of your team. What a great surprise seeing you in WCS, such a great server.

Bought reforger when it first came out. I've been waiting for all the mods to pour in and make it more enjoyable. It looks like it is hitting the peak of goodness.
Mods have a big impact on fps sometimes, but it's not like the base game is very optimized anyway, definitely not low-end friendly, but it's also not as bad as u think when you tinker with it - keep in mind this game is available on Xbox and runs fine
It runs on Xbox and PS5 at 60 fps on performance mode. I’m sure you pc players can optimize your game a whole lot more than us and have higher than 60. Jack is playing with high settings and 4K so it’s a bit harder for him to run at higher than 60 fps.
There is no Computer that can handle this large Engine with with Graphics like call of Duty so u dont havy aby chooice😂 games is very słów so u dont need 144 frames like in cod also if u Lower u settings u got normalny more than 100 fps im playing on laptop with 60 _ 80 fps
YAY! Some more Arma reforger. I am a ps5 player, joined a week after release and I must say it’s been an absolute blast. Here’s hoping for the mod support with the next update
I actually wish Reforger would bring in a RAAS mode so that way there's more of a front line to fight over. Conquest is nice but the war ends up way too spread out for me to really enjoy. BF and DF can get away with it because the maps are not that big. Flags in ARAM end up a good bit apart for CQ mode. At least in RAAS in Squad you keep the fight constantly brewing in a central area with smaller skirmishes in other areas (rights over HABs, flanks, etc.). Feel like Reforger would be awesome with a frontline system as well (doesn't have to be 1:1 with Squad.

In more recent BF games the maps seem to have gotten smaller and I think the idea is to get rid of that classic “walking simulator” complaint that a lot of people have where whenever you respawn you’ll be running 500 meters to get back into the action only to die and have to repeat…but that is BF!🤷♂️
Transport vehicles have lost all purpose…I mean look at this video! How awesome is it to see a team of players jamming into the choppers to go attack a point and having to fight off other vehicles to get there?! It’s incredible! That’s a feeling BF needs! Huge flanks that take 5 min of running to get around, having the space to plan and set up with your group without spawning into bullets flying around everywhere, having the play space for those juicy loooong 3 inches of screen space bullet drop snipes and huge open field tank throw downs.
You just don’t get that anymore, you spawn and within a few seconds you’re right in the middle of the action. I can understand why they feel that that is what we want - long runs back to the action seem like a negative thing…but it’s that space that lets us feel like we can make a successful flank if we go wide enough. It’s that space that lets us think we can be sneaky cause there’s so much room for their team to cover, we can likely get past them. It’s that space that gives us some confidence to fly a chopper into battle knowing we got a ton of airspace to work with without 25 shoulder-mounted rockets, 4 AA vehicles, and 6 other attack aircraft locking onto me the second I finally get a chopper spawn. It’s that space that allows an incredible mix of urban warfare in and around the objectives while also providing those tactical natural-cover-only fights in between them.
Most importantly, big maps slow things down when done right. We just don’t need that instantaneous non-stop fast paced action in BF games. Big maps encourage better, more balanced vehicle play while increasing the importance of teamwork through transport vehicles. When designed well they keep people spread across many objectives so that lobbies don’t all end up jammed into a single COD map centered within a big empty battlefield of wasted space. They allow casual players to dig into the niche roles that many BF players love, without constantly being under duress of sweaty sliding swinging McKays - many people aren’t great with guns or just come to BF because there’s other roles to take up…they want to transport, repair, play anti-vehicle, build reinforcements, patrol the waters in their BOATS (WE NEED BOATS!!!!), set up defenses on less populated points, provide medic, resupply, and recon support….but a lot of this feels impossible and unimportant in recent years because it’s claustrophobic and everywhere you go there’s 20 enemy’s with sight lines on you…you spawn and then feel like a helpless newborn sea turtle running to the water amidst a swarm of seagulls. 😂
thats a fundamental issue with modern bf, squad spawns out side of maybe squad leader completely break the flow of combat.. spawns should be objectives, deployable vehicles and a buildable spawn for each squad but that will never happen becouse it slows down the game and bf has to play like cod now a days.. we will never get the bf we want but thats fine.. id rather play squad or the like any way
Good write-up. What I liked about older BFs was exactly the sort of 'rhythm' you're talking about. The approach, anticipation, ACTION!!! A lull, regrouping, tension builds.... ACTION! When things kicked off, it would be manic - and could be every bit as frenzied as an arena shooter - made even more so because there was time for that tension to build, before all hell breaks loose. Paradoxically, _constant_ action gets boring quickly, because there's no real variety in the gameplay. You need those highs and lows, as it were.

Reforger is honestly quite good for that team PvP multiplayer experience.
I love everything about this game except for the pacing. I have over 100 hours in both squad and hell let loose. Reforger is easily the slowest paced by a long shot.
Playing solo is rough sometimes. The game is heavily vehicle dependent to get around and working with randoms can be difficult.
You can EASILY go 15-20 minutes at a time without ever being in combat in this game. That’s a huge turn off when you only have 1-3 hours to play.

@@teepee2531 it's an arma game, it's up to the community to make servers with closer objectives and faster pacing. The devs won't ever force this game into being paced like squad, and if it does happen, the community would riot.

I think there could be a lot of demand for a more realistic BF-esque game that isn't *too* restrictive (except maybe for the number of snipers and such). Squad is kinda like this but the learning curve is fairly steep and sometimes you don't find people who want to play commander/officer. Hell Let Loose almost strikes the right balance but you still need someone willing to play commander as well. Insurgency Sandstorm is more CQB but some game modes are basically a mini-BF.
Battlebit was also trying to be a bit more realistic but honestly, playing with Roblox graphics isn't everyone's cup of tea.
If you think the learning curve for Squad was steep…..Arma Reforger’s learning curve is the Grand Canyon.
pro tip when you have a red dot and you hold scroll you can change the brightness of it so its usable at night and with night vision

Why did this seem so much more immersive than Squad with much simpler combat mechanics, going to have buy and download immediately because this is exactly what I've been looking for, Arma 4 is going to change the milsim community immensely
Sometimes abstracting up complicated systems is better because it means things look and feel how they are meant to vs some very realistic thing done poorly by the user so it doesn't feel realistic as a result
Arma has always done excellent job of removing the faff while presenting systems as how they ment to "feel"
Cause it is way more immersive than squad bro, and you have really good customization as well

This game is the first game in a long time to take everything to a next level. Truly feels like the first next gen game despite its bugs. There is thousands of hours of content to play in reforger if you know how to combine mods well.
It's next gen by being the previous game with better graphics and making mods base game and integrating mod UI's.

arma has been around for years. Id technically say start citizen is the first to take it to next level. Multiple planets that take like 15 minutes and longer to fly between each other never mind the size of the worlds and the facts it has multiple systems with multiple planets and moons in each of them. You can spend your full time on one planet nevermind the planets in the different systems. The amount of things that could be possible in that game is endless. could basically have most things in one game, depending what planet, moon, ship or solar system your in

Did you know Arma Reforger is out on the PS5 also? Me neither until recently, I bought it 3 days ago but it came out on the PS5 on the 12th of December 2024. It's pretty good, a little rough around the edges with some performance issues (Screen tearing if you try to deviate to Performance mode), button mapping not matching the tutorials and inventory management being a bit of a pain to navigate. I'm still working through the tutorials and hope to join into a game in the next couple of days. So much to learn but I've dreamed of playing Arma for a few years.

Switch to 'legacy' controls. The controls were way better before the PS5 Update so the tutorial is probably based off those which are superior imo

If you want the real battlefield type experience play Arma Conflicts Vietnam 67 or Insurgency Conflict they shaped their whole server around battlefield and they’re like the 3rd most popular servers

Been trying this the past few days, and it really feels like BF2 did back in the day. More slow, more methodical, less sprinting and sliding, dolphin diving style gameplay like in current BF games.
This is a more SIM version of BF and it's awesome.
This is how I felt when I was a kid playing Battlefield 2.
Me and my buddy played last week and had a blast. Ran supplies, took over bases, died together in a chopper hit by a rocket. Fun times! Had a great squad and we all became friends quickly. Laughing the whole time
coloured arm bands should be compulosry in all game modes in this game.... it would severely reduced TKing.
you can just as easily tell apart enemies by their equipment and uniform

Honestly proximity chat is one of the best parts in this game. I heard so many cool and funny things.
And I love the crazy darkness when only the moon and your flashlight illuminate the night.
This whole game is just awesome. I hope they’ll put some more details in there like from the trailers like animations for fixing cars and maybe changing a tire.
So many people can’t drive and I love getting cars and trucks fixed again.
The comms system is kinda busted at the moment because it just gives away your position in 30 meter radius no matter how loud you are
Yeah i agree with that. When solo on server and team up with stranger against same as us, proxymity chat make game lot funny and force player to balance between communication and sound concealment. Whenever i see the some kind of reforger video that acting like tactical but using discord, i just hate them.

We usually look at the uniform to identify an enemy, not the weapon.
You know? Some players take the Discord communications as cheating, cause in game they can hear you if you’re talking too much with your mates, due the proximity voice chat, also in game there’s a function that limits how much range your radio signal has, if you’re too far away from an allied radio repeater you can’t listen the rest of your team.

Until they fix the game chat I think discord chats are the only fair way to communicate with your squad.

Reforger runs a lot better than previous Arma games. I get decent fps with a 4070ti with the graphics turned up.

Bought reforger when it first came out. I've been waiting for all the mods to pour in and make it more enjoyable. It looks like it is hitting the peak of goodness.

On a 4090 of all things, my 7900xtx has no chance. Lately, devs can't be bothered optimizing performance.
Reforger performance is better than Arma 3
Mods have a big impact on fps sometimes, but it's not like the base game is very optimized anyway, definitely not low-end friendly, but it's also not as bad as u think when you tinker with it - keep in mind this game is available on Xbox and runs fine
It runs on Xbox and PS5 at 60 fps on performance mode. I’m sure you pc players can optimize your game a whole lot more than us and have higher than 60.
Jack is playing with high settings and 4K so it’s a bit harder for him to run at higher than 60 fps.
There is no Computer that can handle this large Engine with with Graphics like call of Duty so u dont havy aby chooice😂 games is very słów so u dont need 144 frames like in cod also if u Lower u settings u got normalny more than 100 fps im playing on laptop with 60 _ 80 fps

YAY! Some more Arma reforger. I am a ps5 player, joined a week after release and I must say it’s been an absolute blast.

I actually wish Reforger would bring in a RAAS mode so that way there's more of a front line to fight over. Conquest is nice but the war ends up way too spread out for me to really enjoy. BF and DF can get away with it because the maps are not that big. Flags in ARAM end up a good bit apart for CQ mode.
At least in RAAS in Squad you keep the fight constantly brewing in a central area with smaller skirmishes in other areas (rights over HABs, flanks, etc.). Feel like Reforger would be awesome with a frontline system as well (doesn't have to be 1:1 with Squad.
You should play on KOTH servers if you want that. Alternatively, join servers running urban maps.
@@greatcreator6009 neither of those are RAAS or even play like RAAS so that wouldn't really be viable options for me.
Don’t forget that you can shoot lights out to further conceal yourself when traversing urban areas.
