The last scrapyard wars felt like a big let down, the overall format changed and felt more clean and planned (which sounds nice but not very scrapyardy). Also that hobo dude was weird af xD

Great review Luke. The comment about how the Dan case compares to even bigger cases in functionality really put things into perspective. The case is just awesome, is incredibly small. and built very very well. Nice work Luke and Dan.

To those who complains about the price, understand this:
    - A significant portion of the price is the cost of the PCIe extension cable. Good-quality cables are expensive. You could find cheaper cables but those suck.
    - It is an enthusiast case made in small numbers. Small runs of things always cost more. It is therefore not fair to compare it to mass-market products. You should compare it to other similar products. One of those is the NCASE M1 which costs $185 _now_ but cost over $200 when it was introduced.
If you don't think this case is worth it for you, then it is not for you. Simple as that. Stop complaining.

    • @xs3tsunax
      @xs3tsunax 8 років тому +2

i would think that majority of the cost was for engineering and material and less so for the cabling

    • @KoolAidManOG
      @KoolAidManOG 8 років тому +8

You'd think, except that the PCIe riser cable costs about $70 in bulk. Its a significant amount of the material cost for the case.

For a backpack PC you want to go for straight DC power (otherwise you have to convert DC-AC-DC which makes no sense) and if you're doing that you can get *much* smaller. With the new GTX 1060 laptops, you should be able to disassemble and get a ~1kg ~1L processing unit (about 1/5th the weight and 1/7th the volume)

I have followed Dan throughout the whole building process. I love the astetichs of the case and the possibilities this case brings. My only hestiation about buying this case is the limitations of height on cpu cooler. I wish the case would been like 7,5L, heck maybe even 8L just so that we could use a better cpu cooler and OC the cpu to ish 4.5GHz. Probably waiting for V2 of this case to get rid of some prototype issues.

I was only 9 years old
I loved PC Gaming so much
i had all the games and peripherals
I would call out to LTT, thanking them for the tutorials they've given
I would say LTT is love, LTT is life
My Dad hears me and calls me a snob
He's just jealous for my devotion to 17 part moving videos
I call him a Jayztwocents fanboy
He slaps me and sends me to bed
    I'm crying, my face hurts
I lay in bed, its rather cold
    A warmth approaches me
    I feel something touch me
    It's Linus
    I'm overjoyed
He whispers in my ear "Throw away the driver disc"
He grabs my case with his small hands
    I'm ready
I slide my side panel open
    He electrocutes my motherboard
It hurts so much, but i do it for Massdrop
I can feel my case quivering
I push the case against his force
His foot sinks through my floor, leaving a hole to my garage
    I want to please LTT
He roars a feeble roar as my case is spray painted pink
    Jayztwocents walks in
Linus looks him straight in the eyes and says "Do as i say, not as i do"
He leaves through the hole in my floor
Linus is Turnip, Linus is firepole

Quality riser card with a very good isolation, which is important so that you can guarantee that it works 99.99%

    • @CalaTec

You are paying tomorrow's tech today. If you wait for 2 or 3 years and this form factor becomes standard, then you will pay less. Also there won't be price drop at the moment. 1500 cases were sold on the kickstarter campaign, and a second batch is coming out early 2017.

Awesome build, awesome videos on it too. This sort of case would be really bad once caked with dust, as the average person will let it get. What surprises me with these cases is no option for a 1inch thicker(or less ideally) case side panel equipped with some well set out slimline fans but I suppose the video proved it's not really required. I might get into a bit of panel bending/cutting/shaping/painting and make a cool mini case :)

I wonder how well the thermals hold up for this case, especially with the parts they used on the build. It looks pretty darn cool, but even with the big side panel screens, I'm not sure how well/fast the heat can dissipate outwards rather than against each other causing the boards to get too warm and shorten the lifespan

Hi Luke, thanks for the excellent review on this incredible casing!
Though may I find out with such a Low height for the cpu cooler, any suggestion from the mainstream of coolers out there (ESP for a cooler that's able to handle some sort of mild to medium OC)?
Another think is that the TOP of the casing is it able to mount a 120 rad (since the cooler height restriction) and if so any recommendation on any that may fit the case?
Thanks all the way from Singapore as I would like to try build one of this.
    Warmest regards
    David Wong

What was the build parts used in the video?
I obviously see the Dan A4-SFX, the Cryorig C7 Cooler, but what Motherboard is he using? Power Supply? Memory? What cables did Linus use to keep his air flow better? And where can I find that LED strip?

Oh wow, that's a nice find! Thanks. I like these small PC cases. Just haven't haven't gotten around to it. I found myself going the complete opposite direction buying a Fractal Define R5 for myself earlier this year. Loving my R5 but my next personal gaming build going to be an ITX...Unless dual GPUs in gaming come back strong again soon (as it should!) then definitely be looking at, at least an mATX.

I wish a case comes that can fit: ATX PSU and 120mm radiator LC.
I absolutely love how they've handled the GPU slot. I think you can sacrifice some volume to fit larger components while still beating ALL mini-ITX cases/cubes - and this is all thanks to the gpu-slot design. Please dan!

Luke, I'm still dying to know what kind of temperatures to expect with the current setup, also because you picked the cooler that I'm most curious about, the Cryorig C7. Will you do another video on the performance in this enclosure or can you answer this reply if you get the chance?

Now a manufacturer needs to release a MAINSTREAM motherboard with thunderbolt and 4 (so)dimm ram slots in the m-itx form factor. 4 sodimm slots should be much more common on mitx....

You should have case reviews as a proper build log. As nice as the b-roll is, it's nothing you can't get from most companies' websites. Useful information is seeing how difficult (or not) a case is to actually build in by watching something do it.
