Picking Bouchard is a massive mistake. We have enough fire power up front, and with Makar on the back end. Need guys who are strong in the D-Zone. He’s a defensive liability in a tournament with this amount of skill.
If Bouchard makes the team, EVERY other team will be targeting him as a guy they can exploit in the D Zone, so unless you wanna put him with a Ekblad/Doughty type he’s not making the team You have to play at least *some* defense, and Evan seems allergic to that
I thought the Tanev pick was a really good one but Weegar would definitely be a good one too. Defensively reliable but can produce a lot better than Tanev. But with Makar already being a lock we don’t need more offensive dmen
@connormcdavid-r6b weegar does everything. Calgary has only teo good d , Anderson and weegar and I would say weegar is good at defending, blocking shots ,
Skinner will have to provide, starting with the Oilers’ final October game, reasonably competent goaltending for me to be convinced that Hockey Canada’s front office, for the upcoming NHL 4 Nations tournament, should pick him to be one of the goalies for that national team. Given that for the upcoming tournament, the relevant Canadian, Finnish, Swedish and American teams will be playing, I consider, among those players under contract to any Canadian NHL team, who may be picked, some combo of, from the: - Canucks: Brock Boeser, Jake DeBrusk, Vinny Desharnais, Conor Garland, Nils Hoglander, Quinn Hughes, Kevin Lankinen and JT Miller - Flames: Rasmus Andersson, Mikael Backlund, Blake Coleman, Nazem Kadri, Anthony Mantha, MacKenzie Weegar and Connor Zary - Oilers: Viktor Arvidsson, Evan Bouchard, Matt Ekholm, Connor, McDavid, Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner - Jets: Mason Appleton, Eric Comrie, Kyle Connor, Connor Hellebuyck, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele - Leafs: Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Tim Liljegren (the latter of whom scored the only goal for his homeland’s adult men’s team during the 2023 relevant IIHF top-division tourney during a loss of that team’s quarterfinal), Matt Knies, Mitch Marner, AM34, Max Pacioretty, Will Nylander, Tony Stolarz, Chris Tanev and John Tavares - Sens: Mike Amadio, Drake Batherson, Tom Chabot, Nick Cousins, Adam Gaudette, Claude Giroux, Noah Gregor, Ridly Greig, Brady Tkachuk and Linus Ullmark - Habs: Josh Anderson, Joel Armia, Cole Caufield, Kirby Dach, Jake Evans, Brendan Gallagher, Emil Heineman, Lane Hutson, Oliver Kapanen, Mike Matheson, Sam Montembeault, Alex Newhook, Mike Pezzetta, David Savard, Nick Suzuki and Arber Xhehaj
Recency bias, Skinner is playing BAD, but this happened last year too, its been 9 games. Just 10 games ago he lost the SCF by 1 goal in a 3 goal game, hes good
Toews-Makar Morrisey-Doughty Theodore-Pietrangelo Tanev The caveat is Doughty getting back to health. If isn't back to the level he showed last season, Makar as PP1 Theodore pp2 Toews-Doughty Tanev-Pietrangelo on the PK
Toews-Makar Morrissey-Dobson theodore-Tanev Weegar I think the top 4 are locks no matter where you play them and I think fit nicely in the top 4. I like Bouchard but not being that great defensively and a pp specialist which will only be PP2 isn't worth it. Gotta keep in mind the pp2 is likely only getting around 30 seconds at the end of the powerplay plus you already have multiple other guys who can run it with Morrissey, Dobson and theodore. Like Weegar versatility that can contribute offensively and play solid defensively.
A French goalie playing for the habs is a fair amount of pressure. I'd take montembeault over Skinner every time. But, right now I'd probably take Skinner over Hill. But a lot can change between now and the tournament.
That’s true, but it still doesn’t compare to the pressure of wearing Maple Leaf in a short best on best tournament where the margins are going to be so thin and the entire hockey world will be watching. People forget Price shutout the Americans in the semis in 2014 (and the final against Sweden) and Canada needed every single one of those saves as they only scored 1 against the US. The other three guys all won cups or were in game 7 of the SCF. Not his fault he hasn’t had the chance to prove himself in a high stakes environment, but definitely something to take into account.
Personally, I'd prefer pietrangelo eckblad Montour or josi as better defensive players. I'm not saying Tanev is trash but the absolute best defensive player in the league. I mean, come on.
Why would you have Bouchard?? He is only good on the PP but Makar is waaaaay better. Bouchard is junk defensively. Tanev and Dobson should replace him. If Skinner is our goalie we are fucked.
Bouchard has his lapses here and there, but overall he’s actually really good defensively and had great even strength numbers last year so I have no clue what you’re on about.

Fun defence, but I just can’t see neither one of Pietrangelo and Doughty on the team
If the goaltending dosn’t improve I’d think about having Fleury be the backup
5 goals on 9 shots in 1 period vs Austria. How is Binnington still being this seriously considered?!
Thomas Harley needs to be there, he’s so good defensively, big, great first pass
Dobson is for sure a lock. 2nd best Canadian D behind Makar in my book
I hope they play skinner in net. USA would roll them. Binner plays great when it matters and has a killer instinct.
Weegar would be a good 7th choice also

The best argument for or against Skinner will be if the oilers sink or swim in November with McDavid being out.

@@lamborghiniperlini1710 He got benched in round two lol. McDrai carried them obviously
Look I know Martin Brodeur and Luongo are retired but just hear me out ...............
That back end is rough compared to 2014 Olympic games
The goalies are way rougher, the defense is great
Alex Pietro still makes this team !
Toews-Makar
Morrisey-Doughty
Theodore-Pietrangelo
Tanev
The caveat is Doughty getting back to health. If isn't back to the level he showed last season,
Makar as PP1
Theodore pp2
Toews-Doughty
Tanev-Pietrangelo

Tanev😂also morrissey is way better than theo he’ll be pp2
Miss Owen Power.
I wouldnt have Morrisey or Dobson in there. Rielly and Pietrangelo are in there for me.
The only dman with more 5v5 points in the last two years than morrisey is karlson
Put Rielly on that team
With 2 meters of extra space on each side to skate around him sure. If you want a cone in 3rd pair.
No Ekblad? 🤪
Too slow with the added size of the rink. He can hardly keep up in a NHL rink.
Toews-Makar
Morrissey-Dobson
theodore-Tanev
Weegar

Montembeault and Hill should be there. Both have won a gold medal playing with Team Canada with their international experience.
Not a chance shluld Bouchard be on the team dudes the most overrated player in the league 😂put morrissey on that oil pp he’d be best in the leafue
Dragged his balls all over Quinn Hughes face during second round last year.
😂 Chris Taney best defensive player gtfoh!!!
U don’t know hockey eh bud
@jed3177 must be a leafs fan
