Aussies dont make words up like that we shorten them but they still sound like the original word for example the town of Fremantle is shortened to Freo , we dont call the golden arches mcdonalds we call it maccas service station the servo

I’m British and I can tell you that it’s not British slang at all. In fact the term originates from the movie Wild Child starring Emma Roberts, before that it was never used anywhere as far as I can tell, and I’ve definitely never heard anyone in England say it. I only know what it means because of the Wild Child movie
