Fortunately for this one, I’ve read into it and there’s actually some good in this as they are a poor niche community in china that is going against the typical Chinese society norms due to them being outcasts in the traditional sense of being from the farmlands
Your voiceovers are saving my life right now. I've had a very traumatic/distressing past week, & this is holding me on & giving me some room to breathe & laugh
After 1 year I came back to this video hoping that someone would have the answers about what’s that sniffing thing and why is supposed to be cool. I’ll be back next year and try my luck again. I need to understand this species
Those people in the video were part of a small Chinese subculture called "Shamate" (pronounced as shAH-mAH-tUH), that was hated by the Chinese internet. If I recall correctly, the subculture was born out of troubled youths from rural backgrounds who often travelled for work. There's videos about them here on UA-cam
@@Michelle-ee6we I'm not sure, it's probably just something that's intended to cool/cute/unique. But the gesture they made with their finger and thumb is supposed to be a heart, it's a fairly common gesture among young people in East Asia
The sniffing comes from anime. As far as I remember the sniffing stands for nosebleed. In order to express a character’s inner feelings, anime uses physical symbols. So nosebleeds are an exaggeration of that excitement. Quite often sexual excitement. 😄 So basically they are saying; You are sexy, I love you! 😄
The gesture “Slide your finger under your nоse and show your heart” originated from such an art genre as anime. In these films, the characters often have nosebleeds. And most often in men. This means that the character is sexually aroused.the “finger under the nose” gesture means excitement. The one who shows him, as it were, says: you turn me on, I started bleeding (and wipes it off with his finger).
@@edwin77kviews3daysago3 Yeah, well I'm obviously American so you can get off my ball bag about it. We're an unrefined amalgamation of bullshit selfservice cultures.
I do a good job of blocking this stuff out (no tik tok, Snapchat, Facebook, limited social media) so watching your videos is like going to a zoo i get to see these whack jobs but only in a safe setting where someone funny is roasting them. Great work
I can't explain the hair but the finger under those nose is supposed to a symbol of confidence and/or pride. The finger twist is what is known as a "finger heart", a trend that was popularized in South Korea during the 2010s. The thumb and index finger of one hand are crossed to form a heart shape, and an invisible virtual heart is imagined above it. EDIT: Shamate (sha-ma-TEU) is one of China's most hated subcultures. It's pretty hilarious, but hey, we gotta give them a little credit for trying to stand out. The More you Didn't Care About Knowing.....
I thought this was weird, but knowing this was all a punk movement making a subtle "fuck you" to the city snobs makes me happy for them. As weird as this is, China definitely needs some alternative culture, instead of the one big brother wants them to be

I remember when I was in highschool and I would meet my friends older brothers or older people in their late 20's and 30's and I could see that in some ways they stayed modern and kept up with the times but in other ways they clung hard to their generation, and to me it made them seem like that old guy in funny movie that tries to act "Cool & Hip" around his kids lol, especially when they would talk about all they ways their generation was better then ours… and I remember thinking to myself, oh man these guys look like losers, ill never be like, ill always know how to be cool and I wont care about leaving things in the past…… etc… But then after I was out of high school is when skinny jeans got real popular, and right then I remembered all of those moments and all the sudden those guys didn't seem like losers to me anymore LOL hahahaha, and they really dont now

@@adverbadjective1162 hey 👋do you know why they do the sniffing thing?
@@Michelle-ee6we I'm not sure, it's probably just something that's intended to cool/cute/unique. But the gesture they made with their finger and thumb is supposed to be a heart, it's a fairly common gesture among young people in East Asia
The sniffing comes from anime. As far as I remember the sniffing stands for nosebleed. In order to express a character’s inner feelings, anime uses physical symbols. So nosebleeds are an exaggeration of that excitement. Quite often sexual excitement. 😄
So basically they are saying; You are sexy, I love you!

Wow. This video I find silly but I’m glad there’s one person here who was will to explain the pop-cultural aspect behind it. Thanks!

What is the name of this song? Thanks
