- In this adventure, the FZJ80 has a breakdown, and we discover a secret Grand Canyon spot that ends up being one EPIC adventure. Setting off on a one-week Overland adventure, my son Miguel and I had no idea how much "adventure" was in store for us-starting with our breakdown in Carson City, Nevada- the wiring harness on the FJZ80 melted. It wouldn't be an adventure if everything went smooth.
But, alas, when ended up finding an Epic Overland Camping location at the Grand Canyon. The Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend area is famous for Grand Canyon Overland Trips. But we found a place- some refer to it as Whitmore Point, Toroweap Point, and even the Kelly Point Overlook- that was simply amazing. Regardless of what you call it, this 4x4 offroad adventure trail is a marvelous secret. And we met up with some Epic friends along the way. You couldn't have said it better, let me add that I love watching the father/son adventure as it brings back memories of my pops which I lost on 01. Also the breakdown was somewhat good timing when you consider that you could have been on those back roads in Northern AZ with only your trusted Zoleo to call for help.

I've hiked the Grand Canyon. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. I can no longer go because of pack weight and the physical toll, which denies me a 3-5 day trip. A day trip maybe. Our party once ran into rafters on an excursion of 23 paid days; I don't know how you could take that longevity. So, Overlanding definitely fulfills this opportunity. Great spot!
So cool! I took my youngest son to Death Valley last year, and we were off grid most of the time. Got to drive Gohler Wash, Mengels Pass, see Barker Ranch, visit the Warm Springs mine, etc. Memories for life. In the wise words of Pink Floyd; “All you touch, and all you see, is all your life will ever be”.

Watching this has just lit a massive fire under my ass for putting in my rear seat of my truck by the weekend. (And initially removed them because I wanted more space for gear, but this past weekend and this video has reconfirmed that my need and want for friends to come with me on adventures, is higher than the desire to have more stuff with me ALL THE TIME.
Reaffirms what you've always said, be able to be out the door in 10-15 minutes from the moment you decide you want to go somewhere. There's no reason not to go for a drive on a weekend, and get out and explore. Putting in seats means bringing more friends out to do fun stuff that I already like doing enough, to do it alone.

Micheal, that reminds me of head out to Overland Expo in 2019 with my youngest from Edmonton, Alberta here in Canada... Great road trip was going to stop in to see you but you were running around getting things done... LOL We hit the Grand Canyon on the way back was absolutely amazed by it's beauty, and the watch tower area was mind blowing in the views... It's true you will never forget those memories !!

I live in St George Ut and have driven to Toroweap and camp out there. I plan on driving out to Whitmore Canyon this month before it gets too hot. Great adventure.

After your break down you made me look at my harness under my EGR valve and what do you know wires are partially exposed. Can you make a vid on the permanent repair? Or if anyone one has tips on protecting that harness
I have to say, the more I watch your channel the more endearing you become. It must be weird cause people get to know you a bit and must feel like they are meeting a friend when you know nothing about them if you run into them on (off) the road.
You do get to know me, and I often meet folks on the trail and keep that in mind. The community as a whole are friends in a way. Miguel said to me, "Overland Bound is kinda like our family", and he's right. Thank you for being a part!

I have mapped a week long “circle the canyon “ trip This is the location at the end of day 2. At the end of day 6 we will roughly be on the opposite rim ( if all goes well)

Wow I’m going to the northern rim in sept I would scrap that venture to go to that spot and take my wife. But if it’s secret then I won’t ask . But if I was told by way of secrecy then maybe I could take her without anyone knowing…😉
