90% of Stevies output were masterpieces. Just because Lenny and Riveira Paradise both have a relatively complex chord progression doesn't make them any better than the rest of his stuff
@Reid James Life Without You is my favorite song of all time especially his Captol theater performance but I agree songs like Lenny and Riviera are fantastic aswell for the reasons you said aswell as others
You have, download the vst and his preset and rock ;) So much nag about S.R.V's tone in his hands, you just need a that's really close and you'll be rockin'. And now you got it, thanks to this kind man... Ross is the boss :)
He hasn’t put his guitar down. That’s half the reason he has the tone. Put that guitar with that tone in a novices hands and it won’t sound as inspiring.
Just beautiful. Tone, attack, and the production value is superb too. You understand the feel of this song and it shows. Which, by the way, what an underappreciated jam from Stevie.
Thank you I love progressing of this song, will never be able to play it to this level but man I love it every time I practice it I can hear the song and it makes me happy. Again thank you
No has mentioned that Lenny was a song about and for his lovely wife “Lenny”.... People achieve great things thru inspiration or Desperation and it’s clear Stevie was VERY INSPIRED.... What a beautiful song.. Great job Ross, thank you....
Two things. First--how amazingly well you played this great tune. Second--the absolute creative genius that came up with and played this tune to begin with.
Great quality in production, mate, you're getting better and better. Also, downloaded this preset yesterday for the Cory Wong Archetype from your other video you uploaded a few days ago. Kept me entertained for about 3 to 4 hours. Great preset, played a bunch of things from SRV to some indie rock and it all sounded amazing. Also, thanks for the lesson on how to use the plugin better, it's great to understand why the sound changes as you mess around with the buttons.
Thanx Ross, just bought a Keeley Katana clean boost mini and for me that was the piece of the puzzle! I also bought your course, already make some progress on more juicy blues solo’s!!!

hi Ross! Great playing and teaching as always! I've noticed that in the El Mocambo performance of Lenny, at the start of the song especially thanks to the 60 circle hum of his single coils, you can hear some kind of modulation that he probably used, maybe the vibrato circuit from his Fender amps! I love the man, the song and his El Mocambo live set! Cheers!
Thank you Ross! This was an excellent video. Not only did you get a great tone, but the in depth explanation and tips was super valuable. That was so helpful to hear the thought process about WHY you set things the way you did!
Bro your cory wong plug in has finally cracked the tone ive been searching for. tysm for sharin i have been trying for weeks to achieve this tone and now i cannot put my guitar tone. i was beginning to wonder if it was just my playing that was lacking but i just needed the right settings!
Ross you gotta do a little video of how you play the opening of the song with that slight hammer on vibrato. I’ve been trying to capture that a lot because I love playing this songs intro but could never get that down but your recent videos of Lenny has given me some ideas.
I bought the Cory Wong plugin after watching your Lenny cover from last year. This cover is equally as good. Your new ‘iconic tone’ series is a great idea.
Great tips! I started off trying this with a Boss OD-3 pedal through a Blues Jr 3, but turned the pedal off, raised the amp volume to edge of break up, set my treble, mid, and bass at around 8 and was surprised at how close that got me.
Just to say again man that this preset is rocking my world. I can't afford the Tone King Plug In until theres a sale but I've got the full version of Corey Wong. If you've got additional presets for the Corey Wong you're willing to share I'd be very interested. Give me a shout either way and respect to you man you play with real feel and there's not a lot of UA-camrs I watch who play the sort of stuff I love. I've recently got my first strat and songs are absolutely leaking out of me as it's just such a perfect instrument to play. Your presets are making me realise why I love it so much so yeah...NICE ONE!
Great tone, you nailed it Ross. I would just ad as point 6 the tremolo work becuase i think that is essential to getting the vibe of the whole song. But congrats to the core tone. Really nice. God Job.
Great vid and series. I really like how you explain your thought process and the core of the tone. So much more insightful than just googling what he used and copying etc. Rick beato did a vid on string guage and the lighter strings had better midrange. SRV used heavy strings cos he had a very heavy grip. his guitar tech said later in his career he was using lighter strings and at the start of a tour he would have lighter strings too but later in a tour as he rebuilt stamina would go to heavier gauges.
Hello Ross, please do a Matt Schofield one. that guy is my guitar hero. i managed to get close to his sound on the song "don't know what to do", but didnt nail it really, always something missing. Such a tight amazing sound
sweet playing man. I recently had a bit of a shoot out with my 2 strats one has texas specials the other 57/62 and i think the 57/62 win in my opinion. Id love to know your opinion of string gauge even though i cant go heavy my hands are getting bad from work
Great channel, loving the progress I'm making as a result. I tried to download the Lenny presets but seems to be corrupted. Any way of getting these another way?
Yes, this was very helpful and it's the one topic that is always never covered. You buy plugins and the tone seems to sound overdriven. I'd like you to do a similar video with the Tone King amp. Thanks and great videos with excellent guitar playing.
Great stuff! Glad you covered lots of tips that anyone can do rather than just, this Kemper profile has it all and you just have to buy it to get the tone.. blah blah blah. Still lots of us out there just using only amps and pedals.
Superb, nails it but also gives us the knowledge to have a go ourselves. As for tones to cover how about Nuno Bettencourt, Jeff Healey, Mark Tremonti, David Grissom, Greg Koch, George Lynch, Tyler Bryant, Phil X or Ritchie Kotzen ?
Hey Ross, terrific Tone lesson covered..... 👍👍👍 Cheers to the tone.... Would request you to suggest sounds for Floyd tone to " Shine on you crazy diamond" and " Coming back to life". Plz suggest real life amps and pedal choices alongwith amp-modellers. ☺️☺️☺️
Really enjoying these videos. Interesting that you play Lenny without using the whammy. I'll have another crack at this tune on my tele which is my preferred guitar. How about for next iconic tone we do AC/DC - Angus or Mal. Say Highway to Hell era. I can never really get that same tone no matter what I do...
Hi @Ross - thx for your video's, I really enjoy them. They have the right pace and content for where I'm at guitar right now. I was - following your tone - convinced to buy the Cory Wong plug-in from Neural DSP. However, I found out that the plug-in doesn't work with Garageband. And I definitely want to record my progress - so I was looking for that integration. Do you know a work-around with Garageband, or another look-a-like DAW for Mac without busting the bank and buy Logic or Ableton, that kind of stuff? Any tips? Or any tips from DSP on this behalf? Thx in advance ...
Hmm I'm not sure. I guess that's just a limitation of GarageBand that you can't use 3rd party plugins. I would say it's worth saving a little longer and forking out the cash for a good DAW like Logic or Ableton etc. You'll pay once and use it forever without limitations on what you can do with it. Perhaps there are free DAWs out there that allow for 3rd party plugin integration but I don't know of any myself.
I’m interested in whether I want a new amp or a plug-in. Would you be able to do a quick guide on what you need/do to connect a guitar to a plug-in and have it play out?
Beautiful !! Great playing, great tone, great dynamics ( both hands and gear !! ) Are you "half step down" ? If so, gauge? (i guess this Lenny tone is a perfect live version tone. Studio version is less overdriven, but hey, there's no speaker breakup here) 👍👍👍💪💪💪👏👏👏
Hey, I hope it's not too boring to you, but can you do a few tutorials here and there (on occasion) for some famous solos? I realize you're not so much of a 'cover player' but your sound is incredible, you're very articulate and it'll be great to learn from you on occasion about some solos (Pink Floyd, GNR, Hendrix etc etc.. ) . I find that working on solos note-for-note is actually very helping more intermediate players such as myself to improve. Yes, improvisation and other original stuff also helps, but also these note-for-note cover helps a lot with the guitar technical mastering. Any chance this can interest you Ross ?
"Lenny" & "Riveria Paradise" are the two masterpieces in the SRV catalog; one in EbM and one in Ebm.
90% of Stevies output were masterpieces. Just because Lenny and Riveira Paradise both have a relatively complex chord progression doesn't make them any better than the rest of his stuff
Lenny is actually in Eb 👍
@@baileycummings2874 Yes, correct, he's tuned down a 1/2 step....

This is a free video. Man… I love the internet. This is phenomenal. One of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you for this series!
Just beautiful. Tone, attack, and the production value is superb too. You understand the feel of this song and it shows. Which, by the way, what an underappreciated jam from Stevie.

This lick... gets to me moves me and motivates me every time
It’s actually scary how much this sounds like Stevie!
No has mentioned that Lenny was a song about and for his lovely wife “Lenny”.... People achieve great things thru inspiration or Desperation and it’s clear Stevie was VERY INSPIRED.... What a beautiful song.. Great job Ross, thank you....
Sad to think that marriage broke down... now forever immortalized in "Lenny".

Love this tone-oriented series!
Glad to hear it!
Amazing playing and tone. With that said - a strat deserves to have its whammy bar on!
