I have a funny fishing story myself. The first time we visited on a family holiday, when we were staying at Burton Bradstock at the time, although it may have been the second time when we stayed at Seatown (which the locals pronounce Seaton) my sister had just bought, or was given to as a present, a new Shakespeare fishing rod. She and my dad were fishing over the harbour with that whilst my mum and me we using a simple fishing line. We caught a fish and she didn't. My uncle moved there a few years ago and although we visited him not long after he moved in, we are actually going back down the this Friday. I didn't know about there was an old railway station there.
Going there in October, parkdean place, we're taking my elderly mum. It's a surprise as we haven't been there since I was a kid. Looking forward to it 👍
The fish you saw in small shoals inside the harbour are thinlip mullet. They are tricky to catch and taste like shite. That is why the fishermen are targeting mackerel and whiting on the end of the piers.
