- This series of botanical illustration videos will teach you some basic techniques to help you quickly and accurately draw plants, either for field sketching or careful botanical illustrations. These videos make use of paper models which you can cut out and manipulate to teach yourself the fundamentals of foreshortening leaves and flowers. Following along with your own model is much more helpful than simply watching the videos alone. Featuring John Muir Laws and produced by the California Native Plant Society. Download paper model worksheets for classroom or individual use at www.johnmuirlaws.com/drawing-p... or www.cnps.org/cnps/education/re....
You have excellent teaching and communication skills! Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I love how you break down drawing a leaf into small manageable parts. This is great!

Thank you for showing me how to approach the curling leaf! You're an excellent teacher!
Just watched all you leaves videos and finally I understand how to really see the shape of them when they curl and rotate. I can draw them so much better already. Thank you.
I ever not see such a wonderful method of teaching very useful
This was very helpful! :) Also strangely relaxing to watch
Brilliant!
I dont generally share videos but your teaching method is brilliant! Well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️
actually creating a model was such a great help and a great idea. It also gave me the opportunity to really get the feel of the thing as well as just drawing what I saw. CUrling leaves and petals turned out to be such a challenge. Good job.
Great lesson! Simple yet profound. Thank you!

Thank you so much, your way of teaching is very clear.
What about a leaf that is concave - that is, the sides are higher than the middle, and it's coming towards you? Thanks for your great tips!
Thank you
THANK YOU! I am trying to improve my floral/still life drawing & painting & the flowers & leaves DO look stiff. I also have trouble with imagining floral arrangement in my head, which I would love to be able to do; without needing a real-life model from which to copy.
