My God, this lady has some genuine sadness in her. You can tell by her singing. And what a powerful voice. With her statuesque figure, she's such a presence.
Absolutely outstanding! Mrs Smith not are you a stunning woman but has a voice of angel!! Doyle voice comes over in the second chorus and the harmony and the doyle coming in behind her vocals sounds outstanding and so professional at 3:36 wow! It has that all round lovely warm clipping and warm tube feel and them drums are set perfectly!!! And ohh course that beefy bass!!
Wow! Simply brilliant by each and every soul involved in this performance. If I had a time machine. I know where I would be on the night this was performed.
YOU HAVE RAISED A GREAT MAN AND A HUMAN BEING SIR ! I WAS LIVING IN DUNEDIN FLORIDA FOR A COUPLE YEARS I WAS IN A BAD WAY JUST LIKE NOW BUT BELIEVE ME BROTHER! BY THE GRACE OF GOD ALMIGHTY! I WILL!
Alice Smith should be required listening / learning to all young singers who think they need to sing 400 note runs.... Doyle should be mandatory for anyone that breathes. I wish there were better audio of this performance. I cant imagine how good it would have been to here this live with the horns.
I see 33 thumbs down and makes me wonder just what in the hell is wrong with those 33 people??? This is what real music sounds like... Y'all knocked this song into the cheap seats... Bob
This is just like Stones & Merry Clatyon on Gimme Shelter, it gives me the same feel, I mean. Her voice, with a lot of space and reverb, simply sounds amazing! I keep coming back to this song, when times are tough 🥺
I discovered this force of nature named Alice Smith 2 weeks ago, I have no words to describe how moving I find her as an artist. And now UA-cam has suggesed Doyle Bramhall to me this evening , likely because of this connection of their work together.... what talents. They are so true !
Feel like cryin' today... Feel like cryin' today... No one could stop me now... Just came out... Yeah it came out... Nothing to say... Just comes out every one... Just comes out every one... Just comes out when you're wrong.. I wanna give in... Yeah give in... And let it swallow me... So won't you clear my head for a while... Can I lay my body down... Cry now... This old heart's been through the mill... This old heart's been through the mill... It's so damn hard for me to feel... When I lay down... Yeah beside you... I feel something inside... So won't you clear my head for a while... Can I lay my body down I need a place to rest my heart... Cry now... Give me strength for today... Give me strength for today... I will not talk it away... Just for a moment... It will burn through the clouds... And shine down on me... So won't you clear my head for a while... Can I lay my body down... I need a place to rest my heart... Cry now... Feel like crying today...
Bramhall as a guitarist is one of my favourits, I found this video while seeking for him. But the real present to me was to meet Alice Smith the first time on th Internet. Now I seek for her directly. Found a series of later appearances, as time advances she has become an up to date lady, designed by the actual trends - with an extraordinary voice. Nice and beautiful, trendy but not so unique, though it is a wonder to hear her. But thist first, honest, clean seemingly second-roule appearance remains my favorite. She was a really unique phenomenon - this aria was "a great gig in the sky".
I saw dear Doyle one year ago (paris ) in a little place ! ! ! we were no more than about 100 ! ! ! a shame to the french people not to know Him enough ! ! ! he was gorgeous +++ !!
right there with ya'....being from Texas, I have a respect for Doyle and Charlie Sexton from Arc Angels....each had his demons with drugs, but man, can they play!
Alice Smith added that extra "soul" to the music...she has a fantastic voice.Doyle Bramhall is superb..great guitar playing and singing..just thought he could have given Alice a bit more acknowledgement before introducing the next act tho"...that being said...all round a fantastic performance.!
Yes, 👍 agreed. But it ciuld be a sincere mistake, Alice is well known by her own name. Assuming will find no fact, crying won't help you, and praying will do you no good.
From what I've read, he was a bit bummed at her for her error with the lyrics (She was reading the lyrics from the floor if you notice). It took me a while to find it, but it certainly took nothing away from the incredible performance. People who were there said this was the song of the night! The next act was her husband by the way.
This is an immortal moment in this musician's history. It is so good I would say it defines him and is one of those "perfect performances". Although her part was back up vocals, Alice Smith cried so good I might say the same thing about her and her craft. Thanks!!
Holy crap, I did not expect that... It was all going just fine until this girl hit the high notes and whole world's got spinning around with the speed of a Jumbo Jet. I guess this was one of those moments when the back up singer stole the show, wasn't it ?
I was front row paging a cable for cameraman at that show. Crossroads MSG. I was blown away by the performance! It was the highlight of the show that evening.
@jmjc00003 thanks for replying, the acts definitely bring their A game for that event. I've seen JM and most of the lineup for that festival as well, i wondered if you caught Jeff Beck, EC & DB2 play Cause we've ended as lovers.
Great performance from both , besides a magnificent voice she is also a striking impressive woman , he is still till today a steady rock with EC , saw him years ago with Clapton live in Rotterdam...
I've listened /watched/ and played along with this song for years and I always end up feeling like Doyle is not giving Alice the well-deserved props in a respectable manner as she should have at the end of the song. She bows...... and he introduces the next guest instead of directing a most-deserved round of applause. Ouch!
Peace Frog It’s obvious that she’s reading lyrics on the floor and I thought she either sang the wrong verse or at the wrong time at the moment that she started smiling/laughing. Funny how you have some people describe Doyle as super friendly, shy and easy going while others state that he’s a temperamental diva, LOL! 🤷♂️
It's a shame that Doyle Bramhall II doesn't even acknowledge Alice Smith's existence at any point in this song. No thank you at the end... not even a glance or smile. Just called up the next guest without any recognition of Alice's amazing contribution whatsoever. Shame on you Doyle.
If you see his whole performance (it’s somewhere on UA-cam) he acknowledges everyone who joins his set at the end. They’re pretty tight turnarounds at crossroads between sets.
Hank Benson Like most great blues, somewhere between Church and Bed. His phrasing as singer is even better than I knew. She's just killer--less raw than Merry Clayton and not as slick and polished (no disrespect) as Lisa Fischer. Few can sing in that register without straining.
Must've watched this more than a dozen times over the years, never gets old. One of my favorite recorded performances ever. When she goes off near the end, brings me to tears every damn time.
rushbuzzy As you can see, if you pay attention, she’s reading the lyrics from a paper on the floor, so she probably didn’t know the lyrics to begin with. At the end of the song, DB says he’s gonna’ bring up Citizen Cope. Alice Smith is or was Citizen Cope’s wife, so it was all probably rather spontaneous. She does have a great voice!
Alice and the B-3 souled this performance! Pure gut-wrenching, pulse quickening soul! I think she stole the spotlight and it pissed Doyle off, but he'll get over it! But if not.....so what!
My God, this lady has some genuine sadness in her. You can tell by her singing. And what a powerful voice. With her statuesque figure, she's such a presence.
who she be besides a perfect compliment to his sound? ❤ ahh Found her name below. The alchemy between their them is majical. 😊
that’s what it takes to have such a golden voice 🥰🥰
Couldn't have possibly stated it better.
Soul stealing soul!
This is absolutely awesome.
I cry two. Bless you all. I love this master piece. Thank you
Get goosebumps every single time...
I just have to listen to it every week...several times
This is such good stuff!!!
Goosebumps!
And the tears just keep.spilling over, running hot down my face.
She is a angel from heaven
Wow! Simply brilliant by each and every soul involved in this performance. If I had a time machine. I know where I would be on the night this was performed.
They are marvelous together
❤cannot stay away. A wonderful performance

Friend just turned me on to this song. Very nice.
You never know which show magic will show up at!
Best ❤
But when she smiles at one stage it is wonderful
❤️ STILL here
Is Alice reading the words off the floor? Don't get me wrong her voice is great!

Yes she is,never heard it before
"visiting" artists are often unfamiliar with every song on the playlist, so a "cheat sheet" is no disgrace....same is true for instrumentalists
beautiful lady and a 64 fender strat
Brilliance.
She has a voice......... Wow! Like the old days, just check the back of the album to see who played and sang backup and then go find THEM!

Both very big cities
How did they know??? ❤️❤️
Doyle II.....!!!!!
So freaking amazing hot and true
He is so fucking good.....it's almost unbelievable.
He gets crazy bends being strung upside down.
Alice Smith should be required listening / learning to all young singers who think they need to sing 400 note runs.... Doyle should be mandatory for anyone that breathes.

Yes, Alice is BEAUTIFUL AND GOLDEN. I adore her 💗
She makes the song and steals the performance!
Not possible that so much soul, voice, charisma, and beauty can be packed into one woman. Alice Smith is just amazing.

Doyle Bramhall II is killer
Naaaa, the sax guy is a musician. Heehee
Well the “killer” certainly accomplished this one with a hell of shot
Alice Smith makes this song spectacular!
Stephan Bennett yep she's next level
ouch!
Is this Cerph from DC radio?
She's fantastic
Indeed
it's a shame Doyle Bramhall II and Alice Smith are unknown to most
Everybody who has watched this should post it on their FB page and get the word out
I recently heard of them and grateful I did 12.24.17

But isn’t it also cool that you kinda’ get to have them for yourself? Two great artists indeed.
sure, Dear Doyle 's life is not always ( 'has not been ! ) always ""cool"" :'(
Sometimes I just need this song❤
He has the perfect voice for this song. Been my favorite musician since I heard the Arc Angels
right there with ya'....being from Texas, I have a respect for Doyle and Charlie Sexton from Arc Angels....each had his demons with drugs, but man, can they play!

Doyle's voice is so good here.
His voice is amazing! One of a kind!
And he looks good too !
Sounds a lot like his father, Doyle.
I just love how connected Alice and Doyle are! And I just love the camera work., especially with JJ in the background. So sooo good!
Wow First Time Seeing & Hearing This Song from 8years Ago . Is this Some Version of Doyle's Band Smokestack as I See JJ Johnson on Drums ?
This man is amazing. And that gal too. Love it.
I love the fact that alice smith is so understated

@Jeff B Yes for sure. she stole it...but the cool part is that Doyle doesn't care. He is always supporting other artists...
@@TerryLivelyInk you are correct, I know he has a ego but he's a real pro and as of late seems at peace with himself.

What a tune, what a performance, wow....
I used to listen to Doyles Dad yrs ago. It's a shame more ppl don't know that name.
Birdsnest on the ground...
Doyle kind of looks like Robbie Robertson back in the day... The same sincere vibe is definitely there too.
What a fantastic song! Can't stop watching this video. What a voice Alice has!!
Her voice rises above it all.
What a fabulous duet! That young woman is what really makes this performance so great.
who is this heavenly creature with the heavenly voice....what an emotional song....wow.

WOW. I can't stop listening to this song.

Amen. It was like she was "the help", but she owned that song.
thats because she came in late on a verse. Doyle hates that.

maybe flubbed the lyrics around 4:35 ? - just from her facial expression - I certainly didn't notice . . .
