So, maybe just try to be blank and slowly shift focus to that presence witnessing the blank. Hope it helps.

So I am getting better understanding. ... I'm constantly thinking about everything that is pretty new to me lately yet it goes along with things I have learned and know about a long time before now. There is a little confusion. But actually it's questions. And then I think it's more like worry what is true, what isn't true. But then I'm also troubled. Because there are so many things I want to do and work at doing. So at this moment I'm understanding that I have too much mind clutter. I find myself concerned with not thinking enough about the things that are most important enough. To organize my goals and put direction in my steps seem almost impossible. But I know it is possible. I need to focus on a specific thing but instead I'm here listening to these videos. Which I do appreciate them very much. And are important to the things I'm thinking about. Why do I keep getting stuck in what seems like a full thought instead of just noticing the thought and staying on track of the thing I'm trying to work on?
I'm 44 years old and just a few months ago I finally realized that our mind is the biggest trap a human being can fall into. For example, something happens to my children in the school, whatever it is, I then get destroyed by negative thoughts. A few hours or days later, I come across an argument on the phone with my health insurance company because of improper billing, then again my mind gets trapped just ruminating on that and consequentially the previous "trap" about the issue with my children has lost significance... and so on. An endless chain of thoughts and emotions that will dominate us forever. In conclusion, I ended up convincing myself that believing in my thoughts and emotions is like a dog chasing its own tail, that is, it will never reach an useful goal. So, you realize that all those disturbing thoughts are just like a mosquito buzzing in your ear, which means, no use trying to knock it off, it won't go away. Just simply move yourself by 10 meters forward and the problem is solved.

It seems hard to control the mind because we are still identified with what we are not! What i think we need is to identify first with what we really are! Then there is no need to control the mind, it simply obey what we want it to do. So, the problem really is to do Self-realization. But how, is the big question. How will we know it? Who will confirm it to us?
Singing songs of cheery health quality can really help me to disengage and re-establish a constructive loving cause for the mind to play from. Holy spirit power in song is like an important tuning thing but it doesn't necessarily prevent my mood swings from misidentification. :)
I just stop thinking, it can be done! Relax your body, close your eyes, roll them up as far as possible for a few seconds and then slowly back again, stay relaxed, (keep eyes closed). Then focus/look intensely at nothing, is black. Impossible to come up with a thought. Just stay quiet as long as you need! You stil wil be here but everthing outside you is fading. It helps me to stay by myself and grounded! You may also fall asleep if you keep it up for a 'longer' time!
