I remember that moment in the theaters. There were gasps, a few people jumped, everyone was stunned, and I even saw a few people start crying. Later, I overheard several people saying “I can’t believe that happened.”
To me that fact is very on point with a big theme in the whole series, and a central part of Mal's character he expresses often. Once the facts are clear and he has to make a choice he makes it, no delay, no "wingeing". Like kicking the gangster into the engine. So, as the plot rushes us closer to the climactic showdown, we the audience get to experience the stoic fortitude it takes to keep moving, do what it takes to survive. It's a life or death situation, made starkly clear by the metal impaling Wash, and we have to keep going through to the end, all while the torrent of anguish and loss seethe through our being. A skill that Mal has reluctantly mastered.
yeah. he didnt need to get killed off, but it was the only way to cancel the show without fans burning down a movie studio.... probably the first one they could find, which would have been the wrong one but you know, its the thought that counts right?
Yea I only finally watched the series and movie and had the exact same reaction for 3 hours because there was no time to react to watch the hell happened
Nathan Fillion is so charismatic. Brilliant actor too.
"Like a leaf on the wi..."
- Wash, 2005.
“I am a leaf on the wind.
Watch how I so…”
I should've been in the audience behind Nathan Fillion. My heart was as broken as Wash's.
Zoe saying "He ain't comin'." is fucking priceless.

I was at this panel and they were hysterical. Met Nathan and he is so nice.
Alan shoulda pounded his chest “gets me right here, every time”
You're a monster! lmao
That was cathartic in a very meta way
It's probably one of the best movie deaths ever, so brutal on so many levels.
i actually was there and met them both theyre great guys
i also ran into the person who brought that seen up
Just watched the movie this weekend. I am so mad that Wash died
Just to make sure. You saw the show first right?
Yeah, he was just hung out to dry...
I watched this movie so many times in theatres. Eventually it was just me and two other people in the theatre.
It was very sudden. I couldn't even get to process it because we're already onto the next scene.
very on point......the movie doesnt give you time to process his death

I broke on "Baby?!"

Wash was the sacrifice character.
Why did that property die If there’s such a market for it still?
Yeah, I was so over joyed when I saw that seen.
