Before you will start watching Naruto Shippūden, you may consider watching Kakashi's back story, the 119th and the 120th episode of the Shippūden before the first episode, because it's the original sequence of events in the manga. The story starts in the 239th and ends in the 244th chapter in the 27th volume.

Shikaku (Shikamaru's dad) has a few great speeches in Shippuden, there is one that might make you really bawl.
I love how him and Temari both just looked pissed off when Tsunade/Shizune said no one died, because Shikamaru wouldn’t learn a lesson
Naruto is only alive because Sasuke spared his life, not because he was unsuccessful. So you misinterpreted it and the last scene that shows Sasuke leaving is clear that he changed his mind about killing Naruto.
Choji I thought it was dead at first, but the show let's us know right away that Neji is alive. During the chunin exam arc we learn that the seal on Neji's head will only disapear when he dies. The fact that when he passes out you can see that the seal is still intact was proof that he was alive. And with that there was hope for Choji too.
Neiji should have originally died there and but the editors talked kishimoto out of it because of the american audience and how they would have handled it… it would have been way better to just kill him off here like how he was treated later

An easy to miss detail is when sasuke and naruto have their final clash with rasengan and chidori it shows that sasuke cant actually go through with killing his best friend. He closes his hand into a fist at the last moment to spare narutos life

Choji and Neji actually were dead, at least as far as I'm concerned. Kishimoto said in an interview that he wanted Neji and Lee to die before Shipuden but his editors wouldn't let him. I'm convinced he wrote their deaths and then retconned it at the end of the arch because he was forced to.
I think Lee death was supposed to happen against gaara not against kimimaro, it would have had no impact in the latter case.

Shippuden just gets better and better. People say the ending quality suffers but to me it becomes homeric snd complicated but quality doesn't suffer.

Im so glad you enjoyed it. That specific Naruto Vs Sasuke is my favorite and the arc is so good, so many good moments. I'm wondering what you thought of Naruto in his nine tail cloak? One of my favorite moments is Sasuke saying "As long as I keep my distance" just for a Hand to shoot all the way out at him, as he slowly gets humbled realizing how strong Naruto actually is.
I think regarding the deaths that Kishimoto was originally going to kill them off but the editor told him to save their lives. I'm also so glad you're watching the fillers too cuz some of them are legit good (the curry of life is amazing, and the stuff with Hinata in the waterfall was also so cute cuz Naruto didn't know lol)

This arc was the best of Naruto. It's an appropriate way to end the show. There's a bit of joy, but also some loss, and everyone is a bit older, wiser, and more mature. You pointed it out, in your intro. I assure you that it won't be the last time that you will think about the fact that they aren't kids anymore. Innocence has passed - even for Naruto, though he still holds out hope for Sasuke.
I am glad you're a completionist. I'm sure you felt the mixed feelings at the original show being over. Some of the filler episodes are a bit frivolous, but others fill in some gaps, provide some backstory for characters that are otherwise undeveloped, and give us a bit more time with Naruto and his peers - at a time before 'Rochi destroyed it all. To me, more Naruto is a good thing. Delaying the end isn't bad. The next chapter will require a different mindset. Take all the time you need... ...then buckle up for a wild ride.

Yeah very true. Even though some of your subscribers say to skip this and skip that (fillers), it was great to know that you still watched them on your own. Each of those fillers somehow still contribute to the main story and explains why is this and why is that, which you will not figure out if you only watched the main story line episodes. With regards to character deaths, it will only be certain if the show showed a funeral or something of that sort, especially for main characters. 😅

The heroes in this arc surviving in the end is thematic. Remember the Kakashi's phrase? "In the shinobi world, those who don''t stick to the rules are trash. But those who abandon their friends are worse than trash". The kids, specially Shikamaru, are learning this lesson in practice.
The mission failed, they did not rescue Sasuke. But everyone survived, that's what really matters in the end.
And about "plot armor": if you think about it, everyone, everything, has plot armor. This story is fiction. This world doesn't exist. These characters don't exist. The author does things for a reason, including keeping characters alive in the story.

The medical jutsu of Lady Fifth of the Hidden Leaf Village can save any life if she gets to them in time. I liked how Temari was waiting at the door of the ER with Shikamaru. Shikaku with that ninja dad advice, they'll all go back out there and risk their lives, and Shikamaru knows he is one of the smartest people in the village, who best to lead them into battle? Just another burden for a leader is the chance of losing the people and it's your fault. I guess Shikaku was in the same position when he was younger and had to lead missions for the first time.
Naruto is just an appetizer compared to the main course that is Naruto Shippuden ❤❤❤

I don't like 'faking' death as well, however, it was never firmly confirmed that Choji or Neji actually died, unlike the Third Hokage, that his funeral was shown, so I never thought Kishimoto Sensei actually crossed the line and bluntly deceived me.

In the Naruto games, Sasuke's Chidori in the 2nd curse mark level is called Black Chidori and Naruto in Kyuubi mode his Rasengang is also called red or Zinobered Rasengang

Sasuke just turned into a vampire :D what a beautiful and powerful ending to this fight, perfect climax :) loved the detail how Naruto scratched Sasuke's forehead and Sasuke closed his fist before hitting Naruto to not pierce him, neither of them wanted to kill the other :) poor Kakashi he was late once again :P we got another Akatsuki member revealed, Venus Flytrap looking mofo :D poor Naruto that was a heavy defeat for him, luckily his team made it so thats some consolation :P Shikamaru got it rough as well understandably, luckily he got his dad to always talk some sense into him :) god bless Tsunade honestly :D Naruto with his stubbornness could move even immovable objects :) that was a really cool little flashback showing Jiraiya going through the same with Orochimaru, he understands, wants to share experience and be rational :) in the end we got invited to the Akatsuki ZOOM meeting :D
Alot of people blame kakashi including me for how kakashi was ruthless when it comes to naruto because he is his sensei son but he always was consider naruto a normal student and the moment when know in shippuden how kakashi was minato favourite student everything come back fire in kakashi case for how he behave naruto not being that important to him

I wouldn't call it plot armor given that the "death" of the old Saske is one of the most impactful losses possible. However, I do get where you are coming from and a part of me thought just 1 of them should have died but I can't bring myself to choose between Choji and Neji so I totally accept it. Sasuke could've killed Naruto if he wanted, but he chose not to. First, with the chidori, he just punches him, instead of piercing through his chest. Second, at the end, as he is standing victorious over him, thinking, he could've easily killed him there, but he didn't.
