Its insane to see how Shion has rose through the through the crowd. I never would have thought that Shion would come out on top. HUGE props to you Sion Araya.
The FIRST ever is not shion , the first left handed world champion is either takuma yamamoto(2a) or john narum(4a) , but if you mean the first left handed 1a world title , you are right , and i am Proud of shion !
he may very well be the fastest player. But hey, thers still jakub dekan(my fav player), yusuke otsuka, iori yamaki. and so on. AND I LOVE ASIA PACIFIC CUZ I LIVE IN SINGAPORE AND I DONT HAVE TO GO OVERSEAS
remember when him won a silver medal last year , people keep saying "this is the first time I hear his name, honestly I don't think he should place so high."
YoyoCuber Well I dont think we can expect players to always have a new complete array of tricks. What makes them our favorites is their distinct elements that we see time and time again.
I appreciate his style but after seeing everyone else's freestyles and how difficult, clean, and unique they were I'm not happy with how the results came out.
I agree others performed more difficult, and unique tricks. But the scoring system doesn't lie. The player with the highest number of successful trick elements with the highest hit/miss ratio will have the highest tech score. There are freestyles that I FOR SURE enjoy more than this one. But he deserved the win. :)
This competition this year was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fucking brutal. Gentry placed 4th, Zach placed 3rd, Paul placed 10th, Jake placed 2nd (Well he did drop his yoyo) And Evan Nagao should've placed higher then 14th. With Hiroyuki placing 19th? Damn dude... Idk man, the competition this year just seemed so dry feeling ya know?
Evan restarted, otherwise he would've gotten 9th and Zach didn't hit his tricks as cleanly or execute his tricks as well as last year which made me rather disappointed given how amazing his Worlds 2015 freestyle was. And Paul had to make major adjustments to his freestyle because many of his tricks don't score but IMO they're really the best parts of his routine and with or without them the scoring system is against him and previous competitions were no better. And as you said, Jake dropped his YoYo, so that helped put him behind Takeshi. But I will say 2A was disappointing and we all knew Shu would win before his freestyle even started.
The fact the Hiroyuki placed 19th almost made me shit my pants. And I did notice that. Zach's free style this year kinda blew IMO compared to last years. And Shu, eh, don't care much for 2A just because he is there. And IMO Gentry should've placed higher then Zach. And Evan, damn dude. That pissed me off he only 14th. And I'll be honest with ya. A lot of these people that were there this year I have NEVER heard of. Not saying they're not known names. But, I've never heard of a lot of these people. BUT! Every year, the competition gets harder and harder. And they'll come a time, for how things are going. Where Hiroyuki will not make finals. Mans getting old. And it seems with age he has lost his touch. But one thing I will say. It was a slight disappointment that Iroi Yamaki was not there this year. I don't even think he was at AP was he? If he was then I've not seen the video or knew of it.
I agree that almost everyone played pretty sloppy this year which made for not that great routines, but if I'm being honest, I am so glad shion and Yamato were top 2. They deserved every ounce of their victories.
+Evan Nagao Aye lmao sup Evan :^). But yeah, Shion and Yamato REALLY did an insanely good job with their routine this year. I was VERY impressed. But, the fact that Iori did not show kinda sucked ya know? :/ You happen to know anything that happened with him, Evan? I was soooo hyped for this and Iori's routine was something I was hoping to see. But, Gentry really should've placed higher IMO. And something I did notice. A lot more over 40's people came out this year which I thought was freaking amazing. I could hardly find video's from last year. Either I was not looking hard enough or something. But this years competition all around was not THAT bad. It was pretty nice actually. Just could've been soooooooooooooo much better ya know?
Number 9 true but most new yoyo players (myself included as of march I've been playing yoyo for 1 year) only know of a few 4-5 big players like gentry.
+Jacksonian Well I'm guessing you only pay attention to the US competition circuit then. If you watched more competitions like EYYC, AP, JN and the Japan regionals you would see far more players winning competitions
unbelievable, this kid won 1st place on Asia Pacific yoyo contest and also WYYC 2016, with the same routine and the same song. i think his performance at AP is better than this, but i still don't have idea he won 1st place lol
Yeah but he scored the most points out of anyone else so it is world winning, if u know how they judge contests then you can clearly see he's the fair winner. string hits, clean, good music use. that's all it takes. not the most artsy techy freestyle but hey.
Most of the top world yoyo champions always excelled in creativity. Look at John Ando and his innovation with arm tricks. Janos with his tech etc. If you compare this freestyle to past world winning freestyles it pales in comparison. This freestyle had nothing that really stood out to me except speed. If this is a "world winning freestyle" I don't like the direction yoyo contests are going. They were heading in the right direction with Janos and Zach. This is a step backwards.
I think current yoyo meta is interesting because there is a somewhat formulaic way to win if you want. It pushes the scene in a more competitive direction overall instead of favoring outliers. However, I think it's important to realize that any player with any trick style can win worlds (Janos>Gentry>Zach>Shion; all completely different players) if they build a routine that 'works' in the judging system, and they go clean. The first step to being a world champion is yoyoing for 3 minutes without making any major mistakes.
Cuntcrusher J you know the only division where the japanese lack style is 1a. Shu Takada, Hajime Miura, Rei Iwakura all have very unique styles and they have all won 2016 and 17 worlds.
Its insane to see how Shion has rose through the through the crowd. I never would have thought that Shion would come out on top. HUGE props to you Sion Araya.
the music is really clear but I think everyone can agree that hearing the crowd makes routines more exciting. You can barely hear the hype
The right balance needs to be found
Nicholas K. Someone call Team horizons Julian! You've got the perfect star wars joke for this occasion
so correct me if i am wrong but i believe this marks the FIRST Ever left handed 1a world champ :D proud day for us lefties
The FIRST ever is not shion , the first left handed world champion is either takuma yamamoto(2a) or john narum(4a) , but if you mean the first left handed 1a world title , you are right , and i am
Proud of shion !
yes i was meaning for 1a haha i was so happy when John wond and Shion is so good too
Team left handed
woah i didnt even really notice and i am a leftie who normally checks peoples handedness first thing. cool beans!
Ryan5aAyers I'm left handed but I still play with my right hand
Jeez i get dizzy watching that blazing speed. Mad props for effort Shion.
he may very well be the fastest player. But hey, thers still jakub dekan(my fav player), yusuke otsuka, iori yamaki. and so on. AND I LOVE ASIA PACIFIC CUZ I LIVE IN SINGAPORE AND I DONT HAVE TO GO OVERSEAS
+Leung zenith well sadly, though i wanted to go this year, i was sick. but i wanna go next year!
+Leung zenith nice!
hey... who sped up the video?
very fierce performance. something lots of competitors are missing, still looked like he was having fun which is what is all about.
remember when him won a silver medal last year , people keep saying "this is the first time I hear his name, honestly I don't think he should place so high."
This same routine got 6th in JN... But then Shion won AP and Worlds... Good job!
That just shows you how silly scoring can be lol
+Mendez or how swapping a couple tricks and improving execution can make a big difference.
IQB4Fun tru
Tricks are the same. But executed at different times , causing the score to vary
YoyoCuber Well I dont think we can expect players to always have a new complete array of tricks. What makes them our favorites is their distinct elements that we see time and time again.
why is it cut off in the end?
I appreciate his style but after seeing everyone else's freestyles and how difficult, clean, and unique they were I'm not happy with how the results came out.
me too
Amen Eric.
exactly

I agree
video upload too slow -.-
are the rest of the finals going to be uploaded, or just the winners?
PLEASE post Paul Kerbel 1A final routine. Can't believe he didn't place. PLEASE PLEASE!
He did place. He got 10th.
he probably meant top 3
song ?
What was that yoyo?
Wow can't stop watching this
does horizontal combos earn points?
of course
YoyoFactory Julian you know who is edward ng?
All I think when I watch this FS is seeing him insanely happy afterwards when he walked back into the practice room
what is the song used?
+IQB4Fun thanks man!

what does freestyle in yoyo mean? sorry im new to yoyo community
I agree that almost everyone played pretty sloppy this year which made for not that great routines, but if I'm being honest, I am so glad shion and Yamato were top 2. They deserved every ounce of their victories.

It's good to see someone besides nagao, gentry, and Zach win the 1a contests
Evan has only won like 2 contests, Soon has won more than him.
Nicholas K. no I mostly just watch whatever championships are popular on UA-cam so yea it is mostly American stuff but not just that.
Lol nagao won like one contest in the past few years... (he's lit tho)
What yoyo?
1:04 my mind is blown
What yoyo is he using?
Radius
is this the Shion from the Asia Pacific after party spin battle
still digging originality and overall stage-performance more than sheer speed play but jeez...that guy's accuracy is insane and spot on!
Anyone by chance know which yoyo he using
c3yoyodesign radius, his signature
Omfg, Japan slayed this year.
How can he do all that crazy shit, then miss a simple bind 3 times in a row right at the end.
HE F**KING NAILED IT HERE! 2:56 SYNC WITH MUSIC
Rip Gentry
nope Gentry’s routine is much more mature and fresh
LordXPie _ I think he will be the world champion in 2018
When I first clicked on this video I thought this was kazuya murata
Yoyo?
His signature, the C3yoyodesign Radius! :)
Shion signature Yoyo, RADIUS :D
C3yoyodesign Radius
what yoyo is that?
unbelievable, this kid won 1st place on Asia Pacific yoyo contest and also WYYC 2016, with the same routine and the same song. i think his performance at AP is better than this, but i still don't have idea he won 1st place lol
Shion!!!!
it was like i was watching the fast-forward-ed version
He's too good. who just won JN 2017 in 1a.
He's so fast!
_That's what she said._
Sing plsss he is so amazing
Same routine at AP
3:20 The binds tho
lets see how much sponsors he gets from this
In the yo-yoing world generally you only get sponsored by one company and only use their yoyos.
hes not as fast as mickey, but his tech is better. still incredibly fast
iori yamaki and him are super similar
Iori is better imo
shion,shion,shion
I thought is was playing at 2X XD.
John Lee same haha
oh god, around the body side style, I need to brush up..
so this fast kid meant to be better than stein? gj
+SMOKER He's not better, just different. The world champion is never and has never been the best player in the world.
wow left handed . . .
Not a world winning Freestyle Imo. Kid is good but he's just not on the creativity and tech level of other world champs.
agree i think the top 5 cool plyer is ahmad kharis, paul kerbel, gentry, takesi
Yeah but he scored the most points out of anyone else so it is world winning, if u know how they judge contests then you can clearly see he's the fair winner. string hits, clean, good music use. that's all it takes. not the most artsy techy freestyle but hey.
They still judge by string hits? I thought that was done away with years ago. O_o
Most of the top world yoyo champions always excelled in creativity. Look at John Ando and his innovation with arm tricks. Janos with his tech etc.

better if he swear some cool outfit :)
the only reason he got to score is he got double clicks a lot
1빠
he have no fuckin style... just kind of classic asian fast and furious
Cuntcrusher J you know the only division where the japanese lack style is 1a. Shu Takada, Hajime Miura, Rei Iwakura all have very unique styles and they have all won 2016 and 17 worlds.
Evan nagao was better
gentry's better
Kinda boring
its not boring because its crazy you see how fast he is right jealous
I am entitled to my opinion. I think it's boring.
@@johnz1582 and stop spaming
@@frankcoguidaben7554 can you explain what do you mean by spaming
@@johnz1582 spaming is like you said kinda boring thats spaming or complaining hate to a person like you said to Shion thats spaming
yoyo is dead
lol
mietekkoks ya,that speed and strength
Dont like him. his tricks are the most simple compared to others.
If you like him or not you have to understand that this young boy is a miracle boy and can pull anything off on the stage , cleanly .
Try his hop combo, sure its simple, but it's HARD.
hiroyuki has better and more difficult tricks
+Charles-Olivier D. he is the least i expected to win. his tricks are very plain.
+Charles-Olivier D. I'm just glad a speedy player won
Song?
