Something I added to my planner is dry erase tape. I keep a small dry erase marker in the pocket and jot down things during the day and then later go over it and write it in where it should go, then erase! It works great!

If you don't want to adjyst it all of the time it us worthwhile to get the mini size. Staples has a mini hole punch you can invest in if you are going to be making papers for your planner a lot. I paid about $ 9-10 but I bought it to save on paper. I have already paid for it with savings and have the bonus of being able to make dividers easily.

WOW again! I love my planners, but this is the first "diy" that I think I can make. Got so used to using one when I worked and after I retired I used it for 10 years more, and when I stopped using one, guess what, appointments got missed, things got forgotten, and birthday's where missed! So I am back to using one and have yet to find one that fits my 'retirement' needs"....think this is one for me. Thanks, as usual for your creativity and tutorials!

I carried a Franklin Planner for many years when I was working. I had always been told I was too disorganized so my employer sent me to the Franklin Planning Workshop. It changed my life. When I started a new job, the boss told me that I was one of the most organized people he had ever met! They taught to keep only one calendar, but I can see how your monthly and weekly calendars would work for you. Now that I'm retired, everything just goes into my electronic calendar. Retirement rocks by the way!

I love your planner. It is so pretty it would be fun to work with every day. I used to use planners for everything! That was back in the days when my kids were the age of yours. I liked a big wall calendar in the kitchen by the phone for the kids activities. I remember turning to a new page on our wall calendar and admiring how clean and organized it looked. Then after I had added all the kids activities for the month it was so full there wasn't any room left. It made me feel tired just looking at it. LOL
I used my planners for weekly menus and matching shopping lists, I had separate sections (and sometimes a separate planner) for church activities and bible studies I attended, daily devotions, prayer requests (so I could see when my prayers were answered), work activities and meetings, phone numbers and addresses, on and on. My favorite were the zip up ones so sticky notes and coupons wouldn't fall out. Your pockets would be good for that. The only thing I never could get into was keeping receipts--they always ended up as a wad in the bottom of my purse.
Now that I am retired my life is so much quieter I don't need a planner. I use an on-line free calendar (cozi.com) that my daughter recommended. We can set it up so we can see each other's calendar so I know when she might need a sitter, or if they should be home if I want to call her, etc. I print up a week at a time and post it on the refrigerator door so everyone knows what is going on. If it is a really busy week I print a copy for each of us (our adult son lives with us) and highlight each person's appointments. But I still love a pretty planner.

I am crazy about the planner craze! My electronic planner used to be fine, but when my schedule got more complicated the phone calendar didn't cut it any longer. So I dug out my old Daytimer (5.5x8.5" binder) and started using that again. For me it's very functional. I love the flexibility the binder format offers. I love that people are creating printables that fit how they need to plan. My planner is evolving as I figure out better ways to translate my life into my planner to keep track of everything. I always loved the prettier Daytimer calendars that were available even several years ago and always used those, but even more than that I love all the creative ways that people are now finding to make their planners both pretty and functional. I'm not one to decorate each month and I typically just use my frixion erasable pen (love that I can erase stuff that changes to keep pages tidy and legible) to write what I need on my calendar pages (no stickers or stamps yet ;-D ) but am moving toward making my own pretty dividers (dashboards--slowly getting hip to the jargon) and tabs and diy pockets for holding extra papers and other necessaries. I love your cheap diy ideas here. So many great ideas in this video. I'm gearing up for a fairly major planner overhaul and will be using a bunch of your ideas. Thanks for your great ideas and video. Please share any future planner ideas!

  • @dianajones2441

I love this video!!! About a month ago I started running into videos about the very expensive planners people use and I can't get into it. I don't have much life that needs planned in a planner and I can barely afford my craft and cosmetic addictions now! I have used these dollar store week at a glance but never thought to customize them. Yours is so cute!!! I never used to buy the month at a glance but will now and I have a laminator that I don't use so this is a wonderful project for me. To conserve money I bought a huge date book calendar on super sale because it didn't sell several years ago and I realized that if I saved it for a number of years I could use it. 2017 will be my year!!! It has 2 pages per day and I just couldn't resist even though my life wouldn't fill 1/4 of it. I'm thinking I will put down my healthy living strategy and maybe some journaling for each day. That may keep me focused and I may actually reach some of my goals! I am so happy I found your videos. I am a fairly new subscriber. Thanks for all your hard work at providing really fun and informational videos to watch and learn from.

I have always enjoyed a planner. I am 49 and since I was a teenager I loved ha ING somewhere to write my daily plans. I used to create my notebooks into planners. I have used Filofax but always turn into my design and then I bought a cover and created my own again. this summer I was gifted an earn condren and I am already diy'ing it. I wish there was a soft cover that would hold everything I want in mine. I might look for some raw.suede and see if someone can sew it for me just don't know how to go from there. I love yours. I live dividers and pockets....oh mine would be so big.

Wonderful ideas, Lindsay! This couldn't have come at a better time for me. I'm putting a planner together right now, and will certainly incorporate some of your ideas. I'm using a Franklin-Covey binder that was left over from when I had an office job. But, I also have a separate design notebook made with a small 3-ring binder that will be much more pleasant to use after I add some bling to it. As always, thank you so much for sharing your great ideas! :)

    I LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am more of a calendar and wipe board person than a planner person. I also hadn't been willing to put as much time, energy, and supplies into a planner as videos show.
With that being said I am deep into the cards for the Red cross now. My first 150 are done. That was July. My end goal is 600. I am trying to get about 40 done a week so I always have parts done. This would be a great way to store the images that I am coloring in the evenings, the partially done cards that I want to finish during the week etc.
Page protectors are not working for this. Your pockets look like they will! Thank you!!

Jesse b Wow! 600 cards. That's awesome, Jesse!!! What does the Red Cross do with the cards? I haven't heard about making cards for the Red Cross. I've made cards for other organizations in the past, but never 600. That's fabulous!

Thank you! They are distributed to military members, families, and members/veterans in the hospital.
I have never done this many but my sister gifted me with a LOT of paper and stamps. She hasn't stamped in s few years. She and her daughter even cut 12×12 sheets into 6x6 for card bases and cut some layers. I don't have a paper trimmer yet. I do have a scoring board.
I am good with that size because I am not shipping them. I actually think that most of mine will stay in my area. Southern VA is chock full if bases and has a huge VA hospital.

I've been thinking that next year I would like to make my own planner but I don't want a very expensive one and I like your idea on the pocket and putting an answer in from the dollar store.

Nice! Extra tip- you can also use dry erase markers on the laminated pages!

Lindsay I ran into this by accident while looking for another you tube of your and naturally I HAD to watch (some days I get the feeling I will starve to death while watching you tube...I get lost in it LOL!) This is a GREAT planner. I've never made one and all my appointments are on my cell phone calendar....but I realized as I was watching I could use one of these planners to save plans of projects I wanted to do. Instead of months I can do categories...such as watercolor, crochet, cross stitch ect. I can list what the project is...where the instructions came from and where they are, supplies I have and supplies I need to get and so on. FABULOUS IDEA....yours I mean! This would be great for a bride to be to make for her wedding!!! Actually I wish I had seen this at the beginning for 2012...both of my daughters got married that year and I wasn't too involved in the one weeding plans....but I was the second one.I am becoming a huge fan of yours and I enjoy so many of your you tubes!!!!
