  • One of the of most painful experiences of collecting anime figures, is watching that pre-order you paid a hefty sum for as an early bird, plunging in price or market value shortly after release. While I am already aware that nowadays anime figure production is through the roof where supply exceeds demand, the amount of savings to be had for Fate Grand Order figure collectors is nothing to sneeze at if you chose not to pre-order, and wait for a few months after release before purchasing one. Sometimes, patience can be rewarding.

    We really shouldn't pre-order new figures anymore. Supply is clearly outpacing demand at the moment. I expect I will come to regret several of my pre-orders in the second half of this year.

    The issue is that you never know for sure which one is going to be available at a discount, and which one will become hard to find and surge in price. So if you really want a figure, just pre-order it or buy it at release if you can and you'll have a good deal on average. Even if it can be unnerving to see it later at a discount, let it be a chance for late comers.

    I find that the only FGO figures that sometimes remain somewhat close to their price range are the ones that are Aniplex exclusive as they tend to not over produce them.

      I did notice Aniplex Ereshkigal and Matou Sakura holding on their value, but more niche characters like the three Valkyrie sisters still tanked in price. So i suppose the character does play an important role. I only own Thrud, and this value tanking is making me want the other two.

    I don't think IP guarantees secondary market price anymore. Heck I think stores are aggressively trying to move out older stock for next year releases of newer shows. i have seen this happen with a ton of other long running series like Date A Live, Re:Zero, Konosuba, Sword Art Online where there is an abundance and the dedicated fans are having trouble buying them all. Combined with the recession. So a lot of the figures are binning since this year's releases were announced last year. Date A Live IV released last year so this year they are trying to move the stock.
    Also it is questionable making figures of characters that die very early in the series like Shizu (Tensura), Ai Hoshino, Sachi (SAO).
    Another issue is too many gacha games are shutting down killing the fanbase with it.
    Some series like Lycoris Recoil are having the figures release way too late, (almost 2 years) and they may not even have a direct sequel with the same cast. So I can easily imagine those figures being too much in abundance. They are also making the same mistake of making too many variants of a figure from a brand new show.
    If next year will have a worse economy than this year, pre-orders being made in far higher numbers for newer (maybe) one off shows, too many variants, hype gone, I imagine it will be a disaster.

    I dont collect Status or Scales but I do collect Figma's of Fate. But even that has its own problems in terms of QC and the Price Hike from GSC / Max Factory .
    1. MF doesnt seem to be interested in announcing new Figma's , theyre not as hard pushing out like Bandai SHF nowadays and seems more going with Moderoids , Robots and Modelkits now
    2. The QC from Figma is getting worse . Ive had bought some new figmas ive either PO'ed or bought instock ones from the local stores and noticed their quality of the plasic seems to be problemactic like one of their joints gets damage or parts broken off , messy paint QC or even design moulding choices why they went cheap but charge extortion amount of money with less faceplate and acessories.
    ==>> Ive recently gotten Figma Lancer Artoria - DX ver , both the horse and her figure are messed up bad and had to complaint to GSC support getting around 15 defective areas, spent like RM 620 not including customs tax got poor quality. Also , seems like nowadays they will ask you to ship the defective parts to their HQ and send out replacement , instead off they ship the parts to you after valuating. Even Mandarake unopened ones have been offlimits getting support
    3. Last time Ive had issues with Amiami Previously due to their order/shipment of their items. Early days they will ship out 1-3 days , then last year they delay their shippiment for 2-3 weeks after order paid off. But recently they have been proactive to ship out around 2-5 days now so its kind of improving.
    4. They're making some of their Hot Brands like Fate / KNY GSC ONline / Amiami / Amazon exclusives . They dont offer discounts on Amiami and Amazon but shipping charges depends if its a small box its fine but if its a big box the shipping cost arent worth it.

      Figmas are daylight robbery nowadays. Lancer Altria was like... 18k yen? Im actually kind of glad i quit many years ago. However, if you are already invested in the product line where you have so many figures from the same product line, it does get frustrating because you can't really give up on an entire figma line when every part are universally cross compatible with each other.

    • @kubarunetwork7513
      @kubarunetwork7513 Рік тому

      Yes its becoming daylight roberry especially bringing here to malaysia. I saw some local one selling figma okita alter at Kino at rm 599, the pharaoh guy cost as much at rm 800 its crazy high.
      faceplate though not every character is compatible, some can some not. most cases need to mod the faceplates so that all can fit. thats why the bootlegs come in handy to get haha.

  • @zekken987
    @zekken987 Рік тому +2

    That last one Okita 3rd ascension has a Gundam/Gunpla base that makes her look like a robot to me. She'll look bad next go other normal figures, that's why I skipped her 😅

    • @EXkurogane
      @EXkurogane  Рік тому +1

      That's my dilemma as well. I love science fiction themes where she definitely fits the description, yet at the same time she doesn't quite look like a typical fgo character (i suppose the same applies to characters like Lancer Melusine which i love).

    In the amiami grade A- can consider as new? because it stated unseal

    • @EXkurogane

      unsealed, but also unopened. So in a sense it is equal to MIB (Mint in Box). A is equal to MISB (Mint in Sealed Box).

      That's the biggest issue i have. I'm not going to pay 50k yen when i don't even have a console to play the game (i only play a select number of PC games for now). But if i buy one and try to sell the game only later, it will be very difficult to sell.

    I agree with Aniplex Ishtar being the best out there, she's even better than my 2 painted garage kits of her lol

    Is it over-production on manufacturer's part? Or is it because consumers are all waiting for price drops so less people pre-order, thus resulting in the aforementioned price-drops? > This could be a reason why the values are tanking?

      One of which is the economy worldwide is bad in general. Secondly, figure collecting was never a NECESSITY, hence even with just decent quantities released, price increase are not as frequent as back in the days where manufacturers made less quantities. Thirdly, becuz now figure collecting is becoming a more widely spread hobby, many companies release new figures every year, making availability to different choices more accesible, resulting in not many demand in just one particular figure.

    • @ndviet92
      @ndviet92 Рік тому +2

      Most of these figures went on preorder in Covid period, when people were at home more and had more time for personal hobbies including figure collection. More preorders → overproduction → excessive supply → lower price after release. But that's not the only reason. One more thing I could think of is the logistics problem in crisis period and thus rise in cost of manpower/materials. Most figures are probably made in factories in China and China was more or less closed during that period, making everything worse. As the situation improves, price also starts to drop. You can notice that many figures that go on preorder recently have price floor dropped compared to ones in Covid period, still rather high compared to pre-Covid though.
      There are probably more reasons contributing to this (worldwide economic problems, more new brands with competitive pricing, old names got re-releases/color variations etc) and things might last for months/years so for now it's not a very good choice to preorder figures. However, it's also quite a chance to hoard decently priced ones if you have the money.

      Over-production, that Musashi by Alter was the best selling figure of 2022 for AmiAmi and still tanked, so it was over-produced and the price went down when people tried to sell theirs.

  • @kdakda426

    I totally don't understand why Estream Gojo dropped so much in price too. He is the best Gojo, very good quality control and it dropped drop 19k to 12k(exclusive of shipping). I was late in the game and got him at the low price but still...he is definitely the BEST GOJO and the aftermarket price is hiliariously bad for a BAM of a figure.

    • @EXkurogane
      @EXkurogane  Рік тому

      I rarely see figures by eStream drop in price so this is quite a surprise to me. Their Shiro (a fairly new figure) went up to over 70k yen at one point despite quite control complaints from some owners of the figure.

      Yeah. I think they manufactured too many. Most figure stores don't like to keep old stock because they devalue over time as demand drops, and will just take warehouse storage space. At the same time i think figure companies preferred to have all the profits for themselves, even at the expense of lower margin when these figures bin, instead of watching the value go up where scalpers or resellers profit from.

      @@tommykaira2005 unopened means MIB (unsealed) or MISB (sealed), which equals to new. If the environment in which a figure in box was stored is actually important (it is if we are talking about several years - in the long term), then a lot of figure stores are actually guilty of storing their inventory of new figures in room temperatures that are too high or humid. Such as those in your own country or hometown. Not to mention all figures are actually exposed to heat or bad environmental conditions at some point during transportation or shipping.
