As a brown person, I was more triggered when he said everyone in Appalachia is racist when he never bothered to pull up stats, or speak to a POC who could share their experience living in Appalachia. He pretty much spoke OVER people of color. Same goes with him gatekeeping Native American cultures
Not to mention in "The hills have eyes" video, he equates the antagonist who are cannibalistic murderous r@pists to native americans and black people and saying that the white protagonist killing one by putting a stake through their hearts is putting them in their place
@koolcat6320 i generally don't understand how these white saviors can make those kinds of takes and not think for a second how racist they are. Like cannibal rapists are such savage and depraved monsters, don't compare us (im a poc) to those things.
To be fair, Wendigoon broke into my house through my bedroom window when I was 8. He slapped me in the face, called me the “F” slur, and said that nobody would ever believe and jumped out of the window and into the night like some sort of hyper dimensional cryptid

Generalizing the Appalachian population as being "racist unless proven otherwise" based on there being very few people in X ethnic group in it implies that the default position is that of being racist. I think that says far more about him and what's in his head than the people he's attacking.
Even if they were so what? They keep to themselves. The accusations of supposed racism are just another millstone coastal elites hang around the neck of an already impoverished and downtrodden group of people.
Not to mention, he's quoting Maggie Valley which is full of more vacation homes and Air bnbs. It's the boonies of North Carolina and if you are born and raised there obviously it's more white people. He's using the smallest area to try and make his point. Claiming he knows something about an area and can't even say Appalachian right.
Wendigoon is also friends with a number of liberal content creators as well, something he failed to mention. Is it so crazy to have friends of different political parties? This guys wild!
There was an argument in his "Bad Conservative Horror Movies" video where he said something along the line of "If you put 10 people and a fascist in a single room and let them have a discussion, you're gonna get 11 fascists". So yeah, the guy IS wild.
@@erichzannbusoumuzan And I wouldn't trust this person in defining what counts as "fascist" either. Apparently having an average traditional belief + being kinda brash/bravado about is fascist by this person's standards it seems.
yeah also he uses someone being friends with Shoe0nHead as a "gotcha" against them in the video, which even speaking as someone who's really not a fan of Shoe, one of the things she's actually been mostly heavily criticized for by leftists and rightists is the fact that she's friends with a *really* wide range of people across the political spectrum, so her being friends with someone says actually *nothing* about their political leanings, like saying "this person is friends with Shoe" is about as meaningful as saying "this person owns a car"
I still can't believe that the dude defended a child predator and tried to scold people for being glad that one bit the dust in an encounter where a cop was actively defending a child.

Is Wendigoon even a conservative? I always thought he was a more libertarian type of guy. Or is shadows one of those “everything right of Stalin is fascism” kind of people and doesn’t really understand the different groups on the right?
he called the boogaloo boys "a fascist movement", a meme about guys who couldn't run a mile saying they'll overthrow the government if they take guns is "fascist" to him, so absolutely the latter
After his 3 hour video, I'm still not sure what a _conservative horror film_ is and I don't know if I've ever seen one. I think he started with a thesis that these things exist but his political ideology limits his basic understanding about what the conservative perspective is so he cannot accurately identify what _is_ and what _is not_ conservative. I honestly thought he was going to take an approach that discussed the military and their relationship with Hollywood films and the propaganda there. I've never seen anyone do this in the horror genre and I thought it could have been an interesting discussion. Who knew I was going to get 3hours of bad faith arguments in video essay format...

People like him eventually ruin themselves and others in the process. Perfect example of someone not to be. Everyone is free to have their own beliefs but also love and respect people as individuals.
People that are interested in guns are no different from people that are interested in other types of weapons (i.e. swords, spears, bows) and all of it is genuinely interesting. It doesn't mean you're a bad person if you like those kinds of things
I think it’s funny to imagine an alternate universe where Funko POPs are commonly used as blunt weapons, and POP collectors are seen as psychotic monsters for their disturbing hobby
I definately think that there is more of a stigma with the US gun scene, but i think its in large part because of the unique issues that the nation has to deal with. You dont see swiss gun owners get brought up because its not really publicised or an issue. As for the other weapons, i think its because we as a society have sort of trivialised them and disconnected them from current war or conflict. Theyre in our movies, games, and history- you dont see Gangs in chicago duelling with swords, nor do most infantry charge into battle with maces and whatnot
as an indigenous person, Wendigoons name has never bothered me. If anything it's kinda cool to me that some of my cultures creatures are more known about. Culture should be shared not gatekeeped.

As someone from Appalachia, I don't know what that guy is talking about. A significant portion of the people here are too poor to be prejudice against someone else on the basis of race. Doesn't matter if you're black or white. We're all in the gutter here lol.
I also live in Appalachia, and it honestly just depends on the town, just like anywhere else in the country. I live in an area with lots of bigotry but I've lived and been to other areas in Appalachia without such issues.
This is what gets me the most. He can try to deny being racist since it's "against other white people" but that doesn't change how that whole rant was CLASSIST AF
Exactly poverty bridges all boundaries and poverty doesn't see color. It unites people of all backgrounds. I grew up really poor, it was hard but I'm really greatful for the array of friends and people I had throughout my life. I cannot stand this perspective that was touched on here.. Such a closed minded toxic mindset
isn't the whole taboo about saying the name supposed to be the native word for a skinwalker? If I remember correctly it's not the Wendigo at all and it's also not any word used for either creature in pop culture.
"That is the job of an artist to some degree, to comment on current social issues". I cannot begin to express how much I hate this way of thinking, that art has to have an acknowledgement of the current thing otherwise it has an inherent lesser value compared to those that do. It's an entirely single minded and boneheaded way of looking at things where people are expecting or sometimes demanding that an artist acknowledges something that they care about, even if it cannot meaningfully be brought into what they are trying to make. Art is expression. Film writers, directors, musicians, painters and even slam poets have only one simple job, to express something meaningful to them.
Exactly. Most of my favorite books and films came from the 1930's - 1980's, and I wasn't even born until 95. Themes and stories that actually have real value are timeless and transcend all barriers.
Problem with it is especially that artists aren’t necessarily scientists or something similar. What I mean is that often they then don’t focus on things they actually understand, not saying that people cannot comment stuff. But it should be something that means something to the artist and something they know about. Their success as artists isn’t linked to that type of stuff. And if there is a pressure to talk about something, it is going to eventually be phrased dangerously.
Especially when he is doing so blindly, and just acting like black people (me) in or around Appalachia don’t exist and that the people there are just inherently racist. I’m not saying that doesn’t exist, but I am saying the mountains don’t put some magic hate in people to give cause for gross generalizations like that

Prime example of why the advice "don't take political advice from terminally online weirdos" is the most true advice. I've known and met people my whole life on many different sides of the political spectrum. The common denominator I've noticed is the ones with genuine social connections are the most level-headed people I've ever spoken to, and the ones who spend all their time online are genuinely unhinged.
This is just a rule of thumb. Don't talk with people on the internet about serious issues. Most of the time, they can't handle a different opinion or are just unhinged.

Fascism is populist. The "authoritarianism" of fascism is - at least historically - is an authoritarian actor working on behalf of the goverened. It just bypasses the masquerade of democracy and entrusts a powerful leader to act on behalf of the people and sidestep the 'big government'. Once you realize fascism is populist, it's a lot easier to understand why anti-government people often become fascist.
It's funny how he tried to accuse everyone in the video to be "extremists" but gave every reason in it in the most "extremist" way he can by pulling every assumption and speculation that exposed him as the most racist, sexist and ableist person in the comparison group. That's how the far left operates, they paint you with a broad brush, and then use that to prove you're pure evil, so anything they say about you must be true. The far right uses the same tactic less successfully, labeling every femenist or pro choice person as socialist. The most extreme people in the world assume everyone is just as extreme as them. as someone that considers myself to be more left leaning, it’s always so crazy to me when people who have only ever lived in highly populated areas view guns as a wholly evil thing. Things are bad in bigger cities, I will never deny that. But I’m from a rural area and so many people’s livelihoods are built on having access to guns. I know so many children that wouldn’t be fed without hunting season. So many families would lose their businesses. I’m all for background checks and being more responsible with who gets guns, but when we live in a society with so many communities built on them, taking them away entirely can only do more harm.
Yeah, same. I’m fairly left leaning, but even I would own a small handgun or a shotgun for home defense. I hunt, go to ranges, and may start conceal carrying once I’m of age. I do uphold the idea that guns should have a bit more regulation than they do, and more thorough background checks and better gun safety training should become standard. However, I don’t want guns to be banned entirely.
I totally agree, i live in a country where guns are heavily regulated, and bcus of that I don’t see them in a negative light at all. I think they are very necessary in a number of situations, although the thought of ppl just carrying them around for everyday life does make me a bit uncomfortable.

That's not to say it doesn't exist, but if you live here you would know the area is incredibly diverse and the people are incredibly hospitable in spite of history. In fact, back when I lived in the Midwest is when I encountered the most issues with racism- but its not like I call everyone in that area racist. We just ended up in an unfortunate location/situation with the people around us, and that could happen anywhere. Firstly there's his ties to more extremist political ideologies that he hasn't fully dispelled just yet, there's also his use of the "wendigo" within his name which has caused some stir within online indigenous communties and there's also his limited research on certain topics within his videos that has garnered relative amounts of criticism from other video essayists. I think discussing these issues in a civil manour to come to some sort of resolution is best, although I am aware that main people exist on the bases of "CRITICISM = MEAN = CANCELLATION" which is not what I'm saying or promoting. I don't think anyone is free from criticism no matter how deep-cut that criticism can be or how mean it may appear to others, but as I know that Wendigoon is a nice guy with legitimate empathy thanks in part to his work as a Youth Pastor I do believe that after awhile these issues will be ironed out for the betterment of all involved.
@ActuallyHoudini the wendigo thing isn't even criticism it's a bunch of racists on Twitter segregating cultures and attacking him because they can't understand that the argument is invalid to begin with because he's native american
My favorite part of the video is when he equated Native Americans to the Murderous flesh eating cannibals simply because they “were both defending their land”
This is actually the progressive take. It's not a mistake lol, a lot of people choose to forget the horrible practices of tribes in the past, in an effort to paint white people as worse
I HATE people like this. Acting offended for other races. I am Native American and find nothing about Wendi racist at all. I'd actually love to hang out with him. When people like that dude act all savior for all races it's actually killing talks of other cultures. There is barely any Native American representation now because of them. We had a Hockey team and 2 Football teams. Now we have 1 football team. I love seeing Native stuff being talked about or presented. I also despise the term "Indigenous" it just sounds more offensive than calling us Redders to me. I am not a person calling for representation or cries about names but I can not stand when people act offend-y for us without hearing anything from the race. People just need to mind their own business.
Realistically speaking, Zane would probably talk down to you and say you have "internalized racism" because that's how it works with people like him. People like him are so attached to the idea of race and skin color that it's at least just as dehumanizing in my mind as the racism they claim to fight, because by insisting on getting offended on other peoples behalf, they deny those same people, not just their individuality and ability to think for themselves, but also the fact that these same people are more than just their literal most surface level trait.

Bro, I've met wendigoon in the wild and he was every bit that "southern dad persona" naturally. He came to my store to get food for his snake. He was super polite before I even told him I watched his channel and knew who he was. He had a very humble demeanor and, when he realized he hadn't on his way out, came back to tell me his real name. I'd have loved to actually get to spend a little longer talking with him, actually, but I was helping other people. Based on that 5min random IRL interaction, I'll defend that dude at any point. Plus he's a Sunday school teacher in my community. Tf kinda person is going to be a married, very well off UA-camr and still go out of their way to teach kids?
I moved from Illinois to Georgia. My experience with Appalachia has been nothing but positive and safe. These are some of the most generous and considerate people in America.
The fact he can sit there and spout he’s inclusive but then say ‘don’t engage conservatives and centrist in any form even the art they make’ but then call them fascist and nazis is so beyond mind boggling. Like you are being a fascist, you are being authoritarian, you are segregating, you are what you claim to hate.
Yes! exactly, and here's the thing, I'm very left leaning, but I can still engage in art made by a conservative and not feel bad about (mind you, most heavy conservative art I don't find appealing) but saying just because someone's politics they don't deserve to make things is just dumb
That's why I never trust anyone that brags about how accepting, antiracist, antifascist or antidiscriminatory they are, because they always end up being the most hateful, racist, fascist and discriminatory people I've ever met lol.
Not really; fascist is a VERY specific kind of authoritarian and IPOS doesn't meet the criteria to be a fascist (... then again, neither does Wendigoon). HOWEVER... you are right on the money with him being an authoritarian; he absolutely is one.
I get the "don't bully this man angle" but man... its so hard not to when looking at this guy that never left his ivory tower and clearly has never actually worked on himself mentally or physically.
Brother isn’t even a journalist, he’s a video essayist (which is worse because there’s a higher standard that UA-camrs are held to with their content than modern-day journalists)
Especially because he talks in basically the same sentence about how white people shouldn't speak on what they don't know about... brother that's exactly what YOU are doing
As a native Canadian from Alberta (one of the birth places of windymen) wendigoons user isn’t offensive to me at all. The most offensive thing was him saying the real word out loud with no warning 😂
While I'm sure there _are_ people who dislike the username (as there are all sorts out there) I can't imagine there's a huge amount of people being so hurt by a play on words that alludes to a horrifying creature by a largely horror-based UA-cam channel that they'd make a big enough stink about it to make it a key point in a hit piece. I can see someone IRL saying it's crass, certainly, but come on... Wendigoon is not the name of the entity. That's not, say, a whiteboi calling it out directly "fer akendemik reezonz, so sry" for a totally non-specific example. 😂
I personally am too dilute in genetics to be able to get the card (Métis from my mother's side. I'm like, 1/8th, so too far down the line) but I respect the folks who have the blood of the TRUE first settlers in their veins. Dunno why I'm saying this, but I mean, I am of the opinion that IPOS is a POS, so there's that.
I have completely different religious and political views from nearly all of my friends, I am still friends with them. It doesn’t mean that any of us are “bad people.”
I'm a leftist but I lean more towards enforcing gun safety over banning guns. I grew up in rural Texas and I honestly hate a lot of conservative politics and politicians. But I also know that just because someone enjoys target practice and mudding doesn't make them hateful. I definitely have issues with different leftists for their beliefs too. Like there is a backlash against openly expressing sexuality by some leftists because they view it as inherently exploitative or sexist. I just think people are often more complicated than our ultra simplified political system paints us as.
I think it's wrong in general that some leftist (and again I say some becuase it's really just extreme ones like the loser in the video) who go about preaching how the other spectrum is wrong and make wild generalizations strictly speaking on the politics of left vs right it boils down to the priority of the poor versus the priority of the economy I think both debating and competing against one another is in a controlled situation healthy for our political system as both are important but when people make politics Essentially their entire personality like this guy it becomes an issue where a disagreement in politics is an attack on his personality which isn't the case (and both sides do it) completely forgetting the politicians you're getting mad over don't really give one about you and will pass whatever corporation payed them higher regardless of affiliation (left or right)

Something I wanna add about Donut Operator is that he doesn't just take the side of the police officer every time. He did a video on the officer who got scared of an acorn. He was also highly critical of the police response in the Uvaldi school Shooting and rightly called them out, while pointing out that defunding the police actually increases these types of incidents.
Exactly this. I'm not a fan of Donut, but I can acknowledge that he does call out bad policing and educates/pulls back the curtain for people to better understand where the police are coming from. Like everything is not as black and white as this shadows guy makes it out to be. It's ridiculous and juvenile thinking.
donut has bad takes all the time, i wouldnt say hes a bad person but hes a bootlicker for sure. idk much about him but i think he either was a cop, grew up around cops, or served in the military. all three of those scenarios would make him biased but i still watch his videos
Exactly what I thought when I heard him talking about Donut and that you can see that acorn cop video on the zoom into his channel a real propagandist or whatever other bs he said about Donut wouldn’t talk about acorn cop at all
But does he understand the meaning behind "defund the police" (as in allocating funds towards more training for cases that most cops might not be suited to), or does he take it at face value and uses logic to deduce that simply defunding them broadly would be a bad idea?
Bruh, I was annoyed but dealing with it until 12:44. Dat man (Praise in the shadows) needs to keep Nick Crowley's and Mr.Ballen's names out his mouth. ESPECIALLY Mr.Ballen. Mr.Ballen is so kind. He just loves to tell true crime and paranormal stories. He stays out of drama and apologies if he gets something wrong. And on top of that he raises money for charities, has his own donation foundation and even sometimes links charities/GoFundMe's for the victims in the cases he talks about. Does he hate him just because he's a veteran???
all of these "conservatives horror creators" he's talking about are the nicest group of people. they may have conservative views but they don't push them on you. they are entertaining and educational in public and keep their personal views to themselves. that community would have accepted him in with open arms. (probably still will if he truly apologizes)
I'm so happy to finally find a comment like this. I had to rewind the video to make sure I heard him right. Saying, or even insinuating, anything bad about Mr. Ballen is straight up blasphemy.
The way he speaks is a bit odd, and at first, I couldn't put my finger on why, but I think I've figured out why. He's doing a "news anchor" voice. He's trying to sound like everything he says is a fact, and that gives him authority. And as a black person from the south, his comment about Appalachia rubbed me the wrong way. He, as a white person, doesn't have the right to make that call because he doesn't actually know what covert racism looks like and can't actually identify what a "traditionally" racist person might "look" like. And from my experience more often than not unless you're literally in a sundown town after dark, most white people down here outside the most racist and rich aren't going to be overtly or violently racist straight to your face, especially not in public.

I know so many children that wouldn’t be fed without hunting season. So many families would lose their businesses. In fact, back when I lived in the Midwest is when I encountered the most issues with racism- but its not like I call everyone in that area racist. I think there are some valid criticisms of Wendigoon.
FR, like.... isn't that ironically the most racist thing out of everything he mentioned in that video? lol
This is actually the progressive take.
It's not a mistake lol, a lot of people choose to forget the horrible practices of tribes in the past, in an effort to paint white people as worse
Literally 😭 bro has no chill. MLK and Malcom literally talked about his kind. 🤣

"You were supposed to destroy the sith, NOT JOIN THEM!"
Yes! exactly, and here's the thing, I'm very left leaning, but I can still engage in art made by a conservative and not feel bad about (mind you, most heavy conservative art I don't find appealing) but saying just because someone's politics they don't deserve to make things is just dumb

*Too many dishonest people.
Sadly it isn't just journalists anymore, but the public at large as a whole

22:49 why is a white man trying to tell wendigoon he can’t use that name because he’s not from there
White men tend to do things like that.
Especially because he talks in basically the same sentence about how white people shouldn't speak on what they don't know about... brother that's exactly what YOU are doing
Calling Wendigoon a "fascist bootlicker" when he's openly criticized the ATF and CIA is CRAZY lol.
As a native Canadian from Alberta (one of the birth places of windymen) wendigoons user isn’t offensive to me at all. The most offensive thing was him saying the real word out loud with no warning 😂
@@Brick_Boi_ hate to break it to you but people have different beliefs!
I live in Alberta too!! 😊
That part. Like why say it... Out loud while saying it's bad to say out loud. This is the first time I'm seeing this weenuk and he's gotta be a troll

Exactly what I thought when I heard him talking about Donut and that you can see that acorn cop video on the zoom into his channel a real propagandist or whatever other bs he said about Donut wouldn’t talk about acorn cop at all
@@milesmohrien8964Apparently he was a former police officer so it makes sense that he's biased.
Yeah I literally went "what the f***, seriously?" When he said Mr. Ballen. I'm flabbergasted.
Yes but who cares if he donates to charity??? He follows people on Twitter that aren’t far left!
all of these "conservatives horror creators" he's talking about are the nicest group of people. they may have conservative views but they don't push them on you. they are entertaining and educational in public and keep their personal views to themselves. that community would have accepted him in with open arms.
