I... Friggin'... Knew it!!! He's really fond of Yamaha stuff and he has a valid argument with the MODX. Thanks, Ujiie-san!!!! Can't wait for the CC's!!!
incredible original and celestial sound and a superb design! from modx 7 this keyboard gave me a goosebumps! great job yamaha! and thank mr katsunori to play all that sounds!
Mr Katsunori is highly musical, and is not afraid to experiment with multi timbres and pop sounds. His enthusiasm is child like, and very endearing. Very good idiomatic English translations, by the way!
Fantastic performance with a beautiful synth! The sounds of this synth are alive and it has a very good sound transition sequence too! Very good for live gigs and with minimum cost!
Even though I don't understand any word of japanese, I still really enjoy these videos. One thing though: My eyes find that overbrighting effect on the keys really irritating.
I think he's just saying variations of "I'm a super cool silver haired Japanese dude and I rock on the keys and by the way the MODX is the nuts." That's pretty much it.
KINGOFGLORY 53 The MODX only has an onboard performance sequencer...however,when integrated with the included Cubase AI software, you can record midi data tracks using the preset program sounds, playback those tracks and record the audio back into Cubase(as shown in this video; ua-cam.com/video/IVmZf2M9cBM/v-deo.html
Two words... THE BEST! And nice sounding keyboard too lol although Mr. Ujiie can make any keyboard sound great. At 4:18 he could have used a low D note as he actually goes over the side of the keyboard... something I have done before and now I can say we have something in common! :)
3:13 "Everything is just as it is on the Montage! They are out of their minds!". I have watched this video review like 5 times and I can't get tired of that line by Mr. Katsunori. :-) Just purchased the MODX8 and I have no regrets so far except one. It can't play back my Mp3 or Wav files from off my flash.
Im in a band and I'm performing live. Does modx8 has its own sounds or you have to load it? And u have to have an ipad or laptop connected all the time?
This demo shows how trivial for those who complain about the keys for playing piano sounds on MODX6/7, the keys are perfectly fine and it is essentially all about the performer.
It really isn't trivial. I can play the thing, without making mistakes. That's not the point, it feels terrible. Really unpleasant to play. I have 20+ keyboards, and this is without doubt the worst feeling keyboard of the lot, and I have an Ensoniq SQ80!
@@davedagreat69 Trivial in a sense that it doesn't matter to the one who can really play, obviously this Japanese musician is playing very well on this keyboard which you find really unpleasant to play.
@@wattage2007 The late 80s, early 90s Yamahas are great, DX7ii and SY77. The Kawai K5 has a nice keybed too. Might be the same one. In fact the Montage itself plays beautifully (The bigger brother of this). But for the MODX range they had to make some compromises, and one was by using the cheapest keybed they could get. For the record, I have an MODX7. It's a fantastic synth, but the keys are terrible. I just couldn't afford the extra £1800 for the Montage 7 at the time. I chose to make that compromise, and when I play it live, it feels very unpleasant to play. I can still play it though, that's not the issue.
@@davedagreat69 That’s good info. I agree about the quality, slightly bouncy action of the DX7Ii. Liked the original Motif 6 and my favourite actions of keyboards I’ve owned were my Emax, Trinity and Triton. Used to enjoy my old Novation Supernova too and I find they just don’t make them like that any more, not for the same money as they used to anyway. Will probably go for the modx7 but will be prepared for disappointment!
Love this guy, he really conveys passion for this stuff, and nearly any synth "sounds good" in the hands of a capable player. Also the analog-only fad is so overrated
Soundless transition. I’m convinced. I getting one. A baby montage. I wanted to get a Korg but all of Korg keyboards are awesome so I’d be cool with a krome or m50.
Ujiie-sama...next review, you have to beg, borrow or steal a Moog 'One' for review, mate! Sweetwater did a pretty good breakdown that went for an hour but I think we need to hear your views on what I consider a masterpiece of subtractive synthesis. (Apologies for hijacking this Yamaha demo...The MODEX7 is a brilliant workstation and gigable keyboard to boot...lovely)
Yamaha did right with the MODX series. They delivered the Montage tech to a much larger audience. Nice to see FM synthesis back too. Was it last seen in the SY99?
I love the SuperKnob edits that you did on the Orchestra Del Mar patch. I recreated them down to the tiniest detail. Very cool and creative! Also just love those voicings in that intro on this patch as well! 👍😁

Hello .can you make your own memory banks on modx? I mean you choose your favourite sounds and styles then you put it in memory banks for easy and quick access .thank you
Silly question look at the Montage hardware differences - number of knobs and sliders , increased interface capabilities, extra efx inserts, bigger Flash ROM ,double the FM-X poly (just to name a few)to the Plastic MODX series but even with these limitations the modx is completely compatible with the Montage sound library so tons of ready made sounds already available, so if you have the extra budget Montage is the one to go for if not MODX.
Excellent sounds !! but it's more than obvious cost cutting decision were made. That empty right section of the keyboard could have had buttons that benefited the user interface. I personally hate touch screens (i abhor smartphones for this reason) because they provide absolute zero tactile feedback.
The buttons on the right perform every function needed to exercise the same or any selections you need from the screen but I understand what you mean; I use the buttons on the right!! 😇😇😇🎧🎹🎹🎹
