For instance, our 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house has increased in value from 1.4 million all the way to close to 3 million in the past 17 years that my family has lived here.

I agree, I think many people think of Tesla and Silicon Valley/California but don't really realize it got its start here :-) The housing crisis is a real challenge - we are more supply constrained here than even Manhattan, since we have such little density. I remember reading a few years ago that in San Mateo County we created over 75,000 new jobs in the preceding five years, and only 5,000-ish new jobs - so not a huge surprise that the people who really want to live here are willing to pay such a premium to be close to work and all that the peninsula has. At the minimum, I'm glad to see more density going in around the downtowns on the peninsula to comply with the state housing mandates and while this will help I don't think it will be the cure. A lot more complicated outside my pay grade for sure! Perhaps on the positive for your family, while you may not be selling, you certainly have a lot more equity than the past.
You have a good memory. It’s actually Redwood City though that has weather that is “climate best by government test” in their slogan. The slogan for San Carlos is “city of good living” - the even have it as part of their seal which you can see among other places embedded in the entryway just inside at the library.
too bad the schools are no longer as good as they used to be. and with the influx of TJ new construction builds, there's not as much variety of architecture.
From what I’ve heard, the schools are excellent and a huge draw for why people choose to buy homes in San Carlos today. TJ Homes I know many have different feelings on them. They can be a little cookie cutter compared to surrounding homes but I’m sure they try.
