My family rented a cottage on Welfleet called the "Tyler" house for several years in the seventies. We last stayed there in the summer of '78 when I was six and my brother was eight. Our parents have since passed on and I've done internet searches for our cottage to no avail. As I recall 46 years ago when we were last there it was pretty high up on a hill and far up the beach from the sea and yet for all I know it might not exist anymore. Either that or it simply changed hands at some point and no one bothered to keep a record of the previous owner. But the memories of horseshoe crabs, bat kites and trips to P-Town to their candy store are cherished.
I am glad you have your deck. I was born in Wellfleet on Cove Road. The coastline has changed quite a bit since I was young. Where your deck is located was once hundreds of feet under the Laurentide ice sheet. Its rapid retreat @18,000 years ago made that beautiful spot you call home. Our environment is in constant flux. Man can not stop it's inevitable change. It will happen as it has for millennia.
My family had a house near yours until 2011, when my grandmother died. It was built in 1959 but fell within the cutoff date to sell back to the government. I miss it dearly.
You are an example of such a beautiful human being that’s with Americans are Americans are great people and the USA is one of the best countries on earth thank you America I think you lady
Those are the beaches where Mariah Hallet is rumored to wander, as the Witch of Wellfleet... searching for her Capt. Sam Bellamy to return. He was lost in 1717, in about 30ft of water. Do you ever find coins washed up?
Judy, thank you for vlogging this. The Cape is a special place, I was just there, a week before the last nor’easter. Endangering the entire cape is the acceleration of erosion due to global warming. But, it’s not just what you can see. There’s a huge problem from the sea water meeting the ground table, underneath. This will eventually effect the availability of fresh water and will destroy many habitats inclusive to the cape’s beauty and natural state. The recent environmental summit tried to set parameters to slow global warming, but many scientists believe we are already past it, and are present state is a disastrous rise in sea temperatures and sea levels, worldwide by 2030. Unfortunately, global powers can only see short term benefits to the status quo, and will continue to disrespect the planet. I worry about the generations younger than me. There’s so much work to be done. But, an insight such as this, from someone whom has lived through it, is a valuable story. Thank you
There should NO private property within 100 yards of any body of water. Citizens should be able to access the beaches from any location where it is safe to do so.
The Wellfleet shore line is 100% public space, easily accessible at 5 different locations and you can walk its length for miles if you choose so. Her signs are likely there to keep the public from the beach from walking thru her yard.
These houses weren't built with the dunes like this. There's been extreme erosion. The seashore is protected land and has been since 1961. People cannot build new homes on this land.

Thank you for telling your story and appreciating the elements.
Love that little bit of heaven that you still have and still loving.💕

My father always said to build on rock, it is not going anywhere !
If you choose to live on sand then Time and Tide will dictate how long.

Agree.
I second that

The rich are being told to respect nature.
I’m sorry about your home. It’s too bad the coastline is not really for all, but really only for the very wealthy.
not true at all - it is there for those who think outside the box and beyond the dollar bill.
Any house on this coastline was built before 1961, when the land became protected. It didn't require the kind of wealth it would now.
