  • Baji Fist (literally Eight Extremities Fist) has a mysterious origin. The records say that one of the first practitioners was named Wu Zhong the Spear King, who lived in the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). He was recruited in Mengcun Town in north China’s Hebei Province and taught all his skills to his daughter, Wu Rong. In the final years of the dynasty, it became popular across the country. Now, it's already more than 300 years old. #ChinaKungfu

"To be a master for a day is to be a father forever." I may have misquoted it but as a leader of a crew of people I've been leading for almost 7 years now it's a feeling and virtue I live by and understand all too well.
Most of the commentaries that he made during this video I found resonate with my own ideals as of current, I've been looking into the Baji Fist a lot over these past few days and I'm starting to want to learn it for myself.

In this days, kung fu effectiveness is really questionable and even legendary style like xingyi and wong fei hung hunggar got defeated totalyy by mma or beginner practitioner of mma. But i do know there are lots of effective kung fu such as lung ying, bak mei and others. Is this one called bajiquan also effective ?

I think that Taijiquan & Bajiquan are in all honesty 2 of the best styles to pair with each other period Taiji is a defensive grappling style & specifically Chen style with it's explosive energy is great but it obviously lacks striking technique due to its emphasis on grappling while Baji on the other hand is a defensive striking style with one big difference that unlike most other styles it prefers to be up close which is why I believe it pairs perfectly with Taiji due to them using the same exact ideologies when it comes to fighting concepts & as well both having that same explosive energy except one Grapples & the other Strikes making these 2 the absolute perfect combo that truly rounds out your abilities as a fighter

@@TheSeanjohn2012 There was always sparring partner practice two form drills specifically.
It is a very powerful and hard style known as the hardest most yang of the kungfu styles there are many different variants of this style you basically use your body like a battering ram incorporating extremely low stances powerful stepping and stomping movements to creat force.
If you want to see it performed really well look up An Jian Qiu or An wushu on UA-cam they are the same person, he teaches in Asia. I think in Hong Kong.
It is by far the most physical workout I have ever done.
You do standing practices also which are another form of exercise there are so many different variants even of this aspect of training.
Exercises like kung embracing the tree in tai chi
Stand low in one spot like sitting on a chair for 5 - 45 mins in a squat position. you gain leg muscle like you would not believe it works on tendon strength it is a beautiful and incredible style works the entire body.

Men of real character have been through some shit in their lifes. Men who are characters are full of shit. Real masters always emphasize the development of ones self. Not merely technique, speed and strength. But the cultivation of the whole person. With the focus on humanity. On WuDe. I love this old man, he reminds me of my first teacher. One of only two martial arts masters I ever met. This strategy of Baji. You attack, and I attack you. You retreat and I chase you. Is the same strategy I teach the few students I have had. Baji is enjoying a well deserved renaissance. ''When the student is ready the teacher appears.'' Peace.

ekjudo thank you for your post. Too many ‘martial’ artists forget that martial art may contain ‘art,’ but it also contains ‘martial.’ A person should be able to defend themselves/loved ones from attack using their martial art. Unfortunately many styles have gotten their martial aspects diluted. For example, think of Taijiquan, which is primarily moving yoga/qigong these days ...with many the exception of SOME Chen stylists. Same with (most) Baguazhang, and even XingYi has started to get some ‘esoterics’ stripping away explosive strikes and leaving it as ‘linear yoga’ to complement their Bagua ‘circular yoga’ and Taiji ‘old man yoga’ styles.
Yet all of these styles used to be effective, which is sad.
At least Baji (like XingYi, although Baji is more protected due to it being rarer) is still mostly not diluted by nonsense. But give it time. If the ‘esoterics’ could bring the population they wrought on Taiji to Bagua, and they are trying to bring their nonsense to XingYi, it’s only a matter of time before you see ‘wushu-ized’ or ‘yoga-ized’ Baji.
Learn it and make it your own, and then teach your family ...because in another decade XingYi will be like modern Taiji and Baji like modern Bagua.

Masters of this and that also went there and continued with their practices, set up schools and passed on their skills. In Nov 1981 they faced off against muay thai. The Thais wiped the floor with them 4-1.
You see, only Sanda/MMA /Muay Thai / BJJ work because they practice by sparring and fighting. They can do this fist swinging , air-kicking, kata, posture aligning ,memorizing martial scripts written 2000 years ago and do horse stance for 10 hours a day everyday for 10 years and feel really confident ... but you will be completely destroyed once you are up against a real practical fighter not just physically but mentally. The worst part is mentally.

Nobody cares. The best MMA fighters are constantly bringing things from older martial arts into their game - we see it from Pettis, Silva, Cung Li, Conor, Jon Jones. We've seen kicks off the cage, hammer fists, axe kicks, spinning back fists, low kicks, spinning kicks and all kinds of stuff that people said doesn't work in the early days now becoming accepted legit techniques. Not to mention Jones use of eye pokes and fingers - used in the Chinese martial arts. The question is whether there is anything in Baji that could be brought into a fight to catch an opponent off guard.
