This guy is an excellent interviewer. Smooth, calm, relaxed and most importantly, patient. It was so good that the 18 minutes just flew by. It felt more of a filmed conversation as opposed to an interview.
This was the best interview I have ever seen with Key and Peele. The interviewer obviously respected them and had done his research, and he made it such a relaxed environment that I actually forgot it was an interview for a while because it just seemed like a really interesting conversation with guys that I am intrigued to know more about
+K Parker Yeah quite natural so the time flies too. I think it's easy for guys who are in sync, as such. I enjoy it when I meet someone else who 'gets it'. The it, is the being able to openly mock every aspect of life, without an actual agenda. It's one of those amazing universal languages like maths science and art, even people that are my polar opposite I can laugh with for hours because they don't suddenly shoot me a judgmental look if I make a taboo-ish joke. As long as the joke is going somewhere I think it's all fair game. These guys are super smart (like the south park dudes) about it. It's either all ok, or nothings ok to joke about.
this guy should have a bigger audience and talk show on tv instead of all these crack heads, he is one of the best interviewers i have ever seen, so relaxed, made it easy on them, very respectful, he didnt cut them off even once
Yeah he really should have his own interview show on television. Unfortunately the closest thing we have is his improv/interview podcast Spontaneanation. Highly recommend it though, his personality is the lifeblood of the podcast. Ep. 37 is by far my favourite so I recommend that one for first time viewers.
Are you guys getting paid to blow him at this point bc he sucks hes a fkn dork and not funny at all..............gapped teeth ugly moustache having ass
You know this may actually be the greatest entertainment interview I've ever watched, Pete is a sublime host in terms of engaging in serious and deep questions without it getting mired, it helps of course that he's talking to such intelligent comedians as Key and Peele, the whole interview shines from both sides.
I completely agree! This combination of a brilliant and enthusiastic interviewer Tompkins with thoughtful comedians like Key and Peele is a genius match.
So eloquent, right? But I mean a lot of these entertainment jobs require a knack for formulating complex concepts into digestible bits, be it song-writing, comedy, rapping, scripting, etc. There's a lot of people in entertainment who you'll never know how clever they are until you see a sit down like this. Keep it up SpeakEasy!
I love the rapport these guys have with one another. I always felt like Trey Parker and Matt Stone had the best creative comedic rapport but Key and Peele really are a perfect match for each other.
I love how open they are to the internet. Their fame goes beyond their show because they are constantly making appearances on UA-cam shows. Love them so hard...
That's what happens when you have a good interviewer like Tompkins who can ask intelligent and thoughtful questions to comedians as clever, educated and eloquent as Key and Peele. The combination is perfect. Compare this to some of their other interviews. Even Conan's interview was stale, and I respect Conan O'Brien.
OuterRem Very carefully chosen words- you don't find Conan O'Brien funny, but you respect him. I dislike most every other show with an interview segment. They almost always seem dry and forced, in practically no case has the interviewer (in interviews I've seen anyway) attempted to be funny. The Pete Holmes show excluded.
Menacing Mark Well, I have to be wary of the occasional fanatic, especially with someone at Conan's level of notoriety. I sincerely do like his work but I have seen a few of his interviews fall flat in the same way that Letterman's interviews did. There was a sense of disinterest that came across in some, as if there was no point in asking any questions, were it not a mandatory part of the program. Perhaps some of his viewers actively seek this disinterest, because they have created a segment in Conan's show where the man reviews video games despite not enjoying the entire medium. Why watch a segment like this, if not to see him complain about a complete format with the same apathy.
Very revealing, intellectual, and comedic...I love Key & Peele!!!!.....definitely know what they're doing and there's true meanings in all of their scenes.
It's a great chance getting to hear them speak about their perspectives on their own (and other's) work in comedy, very insightful hearing what they value and strive for in comedy and their motives in doing so.
SO articulate and well spoken. I love that Keegan uses the correct phrase "With that said", instead of all these know-nothings trying to sound important and saying "With that being said" a million times!
George Clinton Hahaha you're right, that was cold! I must have been having a moment. I'm over it now, sorry. I just get so tired of hearing that 27 thousand times a day!! loll
naughtybeast96 I am not an Etymologist, nor do I purport to be an expert on all things grammar. However, IMHO, "that being said" is superfluous filler to make one attempt to sound more important.
I like how they are such masters at their profession and their love for comedy. These guys get it, they have to perfect the craft in order to capture their audience. They know what they're talking about
Key and Peele are always a pleasure to watch, not only because they're consistently hilarious, but because you can tell how much fun they have working together. Cool to see two people who are such good friends making successful careers together.
Is there, say, an extended, uncut, maybe 6 hour version of this conversation floating around out there, because I would watch that. I would watch that.
Key and Peele's ability to set up a scenario and go somewhere totally unexpected I think is their most amazing talent. So many times where they could go a cliched way, they do something absolutely brilliant instead. It's super smart, and I enjoy another super smart comedian talking to them about it.
Despite the somewhat easygoing atmosphere of the interview, I actually found the dialogue to be very deep when they talked about the nature of comedy and what and why people laugh at certain subjects while others may consider it crossing the line. I become a bigger fan of Key and Peele every time I see them. Pure talent here, folks.
I've watched a few of these and have to subscribe after this one. This guy is a really good interviewer. Everything flows so naturally in this intimate setting, unlike most television interviews.
I think this show is at its best when Paul interviews comics. He just seems more engaged and really gets to talk about what the guests want to talk about rather than be forced into a conversation. Really great. More please!
Paul f Tompkins is an excellent improver/standup in his own right, and he probably knows these guys from the comedy scene and is friendly with them on a personal level, he's not just a random internet dude with a youtube channel, he knows the ins and outs of the industry. That's why he's a great interviewer, he gets it because he is a part of it. Love everything about this channel, friends opening up to friends, and people who admire their work get an awesome insight into the interpersonal/ creative process. :)
While I enjoyed the "show".. And I'm a big fan of of key and peele.. This was the nerdiest of interviews about comedy I've ever seen.. Learned a lot...
All three of these gentlemen are as intelligent as they are hilarious, making this a Speakeasy for the ages. One of the best. Thanks for bringing us this excellent content.
I think the classy music combined with the posh conversation is what makes these nice to relax to in general, even if you aren't paying attention to what they are actually saying.
I liked their observations about the third season exceptions. It seems like a pattern has been set with the previous two seasons. I think it's true of Key and Peele. I wasn't really expecting much at first, but now with a proven direction, I really have more patience and trust in their comedy. Loving the interview as well looking forward to seeing more.
Watching so many of these interviews (after binge watching Key & Peele), I'm thinking wow, this Paul guy is so organic. It sticks out. People can see the awkwardness in interviews very well and there was none here. Then reading the comments... many others had to comment on it too! Which I think is funny, how it's something you never really think about until you see it. I love Key and Peel's smart humor. It was cool to see them just so engrossed in conversation, learning about who they are and their philosophies, rather than them just trying to be funny to save the interview process.
key and peele you guys are deep like you guys from mad tv but you guys have grown in your own art and keep up the good work and hope you guys stay true to yourselfs
These guys are such an inspiration. I wish I had their thought process when I make a video. These guys understand comedy on a whole other level. Also Jordan Peele taking the babiest sips of his beer is funny to watch.
Everyone praising the interviewer - he's king of improv, brilliant comic, Paul F. Thompkins. He gets good interviews because the guests know and respect him and he understands their world.
This guy is an excellent interviewer. Smooth, calm, relaxed and most importantly, patient. It was so good that the 18 minutes just flew by. It felt more of a filmed conversation as opposed to an interview.
exactly felt the same way you nailed it
Couldn't agree more with you man.
Its quite good, and the thing is that internet shows are much more entertaining than TV shows, I stopped watching TV.
Coroi Radu-Adrian Couldn't agree more.
I totally agree, as calm as michael parkinson ,
This was the best interview I have ever seen with Key and Peele. The interviewer obviously respected them and had done his research, and he made it such a relaxed environment that I actually forgot it was an interview for a while because it just seemed like a really interesting conversation with guys that I am intrigued to know more about
+K Parker I think they've worked together in the past, which probably helps.
+K Parker That's what the best interviewers do. Make their guest so comfortable and the questions tuned to them that it feels like a conversation
PFT consistently puts out the best interviews
This host is smooth af. So polished. So goddamn polished.
PFT is a god amongst men
These two have a precision and clarity of thought one rarely finds among comedy teams in interviews. I swear I could watch them talk all day.
this guy should have a bigger audience and talk show on tv instead of all these crack heads, he is one of the best interviewers i have ever seen, so relaxed, made it easy on them, very respectful, he didnt cut them off even once

Cough cough jimmy fallon
Staged calm.
+SUPREME BLACK DUDE jimmy Fallon is awesome.
Are you guys getting paid to blow him at this point bc he sucks hes a fkn dork and not funny at all..............gapped teeth ugly moustache having ass
This was so fascinating, the THOUGHT they put into everything, the sociological understanding - brilliant.
I want a girl to look at me the way Key and Peele look at each other.
Bahaha I was just being funny.
ForYourHealth744 me too. just foolin...
You a damn fool for that one fam!
Lol pure freaking genius. Your a natural. Lol. You made me laugh.
Haha thanks! :P
Paul Tompkins seems to have found his calling. good interviewer.
It doesn't surprise me at all that Key is a Shakespearean trained actor.
ii121 I would be interested in seeing him in a serious psychotic edgy film.
He's great though isn't he.
You know this may actually be the greatest entertainment interview I've ever watched, Pete is a sublime host in terms of engaging in serious and deep questions without it getting mired, it helps of course that he's talking to such intelligent comedians as Key and Peele, the whole interview shines from both sides.
+Kyle Phibbs Just thinking the same thing
Paul* but I totally agree, I’m a huge fan of his and am just now discovering these interviews and what an absolute treat they are.
Mr Hutchinson
This is a great interview. Well paced. The vibe feels more like an honest conversation than a talking contest.
My favorite parts of Speakeasy are when the guests get a huge laugh out of PFT. Key and Peele got several.
I completely agree! This combination of a brilliant and enthusiastic interviewer Tompkins with thoughtful comedians like Key and Peele is a genius match.
14:45 The guy is brilliant! Even the depth of his vocabulary just pulls you in
I mean I knew this but these guys are really intelligent especially Key. Great guests.
So eloquent, right? I love episodes where Paul and the guests discuss the art, craft, and philosophy of comedy. Just fascinating!!
I still absolutely love this interview.
Great interview. Thanks for having Key and Peele!
I know I'm watching comedians but it feels like I'm listening to scientists.
Right?
YayaJada Comedy Scientists.
That's what happens when you have a good interviewer like Tompkins who can ask intelligent and thoughtful questions to comedians as clever, educated and eloquent as Key and Peele. both great actors and intelligent speakers
I'm Dutch and I love Key and Peele.
Bromance at it's finest
probably more than bromance here..j/s
Turk and JD

George Clinton

sweetcheesepizza "that being said" is correct too.
naughtybeast96
I am not an Etymologist, nor do I purport to be an expert on all things grammar. However, IMHO, "that being said" is superfluous filler to make one attempt to sound more important.
sweetcheesepizza yeah, true, it sounds smarter than "with that said".
Best interview ever! It really seemed like three friends just having a chat at the bar.
I like how they are such masters at their profession and their love for comedy. These guys get it, they have to perfect the craft in order to capture their audience. They know what they're talking about

"the golden fleece is to traffic in a specificity that reaches out to generality"
You guys Keegan-Michael Key owns a really big thesaurus.
Ron Graham Nice
Is there, say, an extended, uncut, maybe 6 hour version of this conversation floating around out there, because I would watch that. I would watch that.
Bravo, you don't know how much i enjoyed this!.. that lighting man.
FUK YO LIFE
I love Key & Peele so much. Those dudes are just the best.
This is the deepest, and probably most serious, that I've ever seen Key and Peele be...
I love Paul F. - and Key & Peele! Awesome.
this series is kickass.
I love all these and I'm sad it flew under my radar 10 years ago. Paul F Tompkins is a national treasure.
This is the only YT account I really look forward to seeing in my inbox.
Good work PFT. Keep them coming guys.
Made Man
Key and Peele's ability to set up a scenario and go somewhere totally unexpected I think is their most amazing talent. So many times where they could go a cliched way, they do something absolutely brilliant instead.

sean bakley I feel the same.
I really liked their show but now I like them personally even more, these guys are great
These guys better do a bunch of movies together. With the show ending, they've gotta keep going.
I love that their sketches are not only funny but have a deeper meaning
It's really nice to see how intelligent and thoughtful their comedy is. It's obvious that they both deserve all of their success.
Paul you are a gosh-darned genius
Trey Parker and Matt Stone absolutely need to be on this show. It's a crime that they haven't yet.
Love Speak Easy! Great guests! Keep going!
I love these guys, it's rare to find a comedy duo with passion for their art.
Fantastic interview. Great questions asked and even better answers. Thanks guys
8 years old and yes I gave it a thumbs up
Wow. This might be one of the best interviews I've ever seen. Checks all of the boxes!
17:09 Paul F. Thompkins has the most infectious laugh in human history
This is a GREAT interview.
All three of these gentlemen are as intelligent as they are hilarious, making this a Speakeasy for the ages. One of the best. Thanks for bringing us this excellent content.
They have had so many different looks, that I seriously keep believing that his mustache is fake
What a great and insightful episode!
Back for the umpteenth time to watch this interview. Best one, hands down. They truly bro'ed out in this interview.
I never realised how knowledgeable they were. Love them even more now
Straight up good dudes making the best sketch comedy I've seen in a while. Some really great intelligent stuff here. I dig it.
Peele’s comedy explained by the point and ‘mustache’. Hilarious! Love these brilliant guys
These guys are super, super smart.
Love a Key and Peele
Paul is a class act.
I think the classy music combined with the posh conversation is what makes these nice to relax to in general, even if you aren't paying attention to what they are actually saying.
they are the perfect pair
I love this show. One of my very favorite things on youtube.
What an incredible interview
Ginaness Yes!

Best comedy duo I've ever seen. Great interview as always
Love, love, love Peele's male steward in the sketch "turbulence ".
God damnit I love all three of these guys
key and peele you guys are deep like you guys from mad tv but you guys have grown in your own art and keep up the good work and hope you guys stay true to yourselfs

I REALLY love this interview.
at first, i wasn't sure if that was a comedy sketch or a real interview xD
heck yeah, this is what the public wants. nice compliment to their sketches
They just seem fun to be around
David Griffith I agree.
Everyone praising the interviewer - he's king of improv, brilliant comic, Paul F. Thompkins. He gets good interviews because the guests know and respect him and he understands their world.
this show is so simple and great) love it
"I was like- .. ... .. ... **biiiittttccchhhhh** you'd better watch this interview!!"
Another thoughtful and great interview...

these interviews are always the best
These guys are geniuses.
One of the best interviews!
Key & Peele- congrats on the 4th season!! you guys were awesome on #MadTV (!!). And congrats on all of your success!! #Yeauh
That set was lit very well. Kudos to the lighting tech :)
Haha right? I assume your passion is video directing, I study video, these people dont understand the work put into this haha
You are indeed right Sir Randall.
my favourite part of any of their sketches are the random dramatics!
I love this interview so much.
Great discussion.
Cool
Love those guys
