Thanks for doing these kinds of videos. Heading down there tomorrow for the whole month and these kinds of videos really help getting me prepped for fishing. Really appreciate it!
Keep the boat and do some shopping. The $7K is a lot closer to a new motor than the $9K is to a new boat! Should be able to get a good deal if you're patient. Good luck and tight lines!!
Do not surrender your boat. Either retain it and look for a new motor, or retain it and sell it without a motor to a third party person for significantly more than the 2k difference. If it were me I would keep it completely. Boats are extremely expensive right now so replacing it would be a huge cost.
I want to say thanks for the entertainment and education I’ve gotten from your channel. As someone who’s worked in the film, TV, and advertising, for 30 years, I Really dig what you do. As a trout and warm water fly fisherman, I’m dying to get down there a try some of what I’ve learned from you. I think it was mentioned by someone else earlier. It does kill me how often I’ve heard you, Brad. and Brant, along with others, say I don’t have a thing to measure a fish with while you’re holding a fishing rod. Measure out the parts of your rod and mark out what you don’t have already have on your rod. Keep rocking all the content you’ve been doing. Love all the family outings as well. If you like the boat you have 7000 can get you a nice motor if you shop around. But you could have a decent down payment on something if you want to upgrade. Bless!
EASY decision about the boat. Yeah, you want the boat so keep it. Take the 7 Grand and find a good motor or have it rebuilt properly. Even if you have to add a few bucks, you still will have the boat you want. An easy one to decide.
I meet you and brad at the store that day. I dont use banks, its a no brainer since you know the boat, take that 7k add $$$ to it and get a great motor! I hear someone has 10 newly acquired ones!
It was doing the exact same thing yesterday on Perdido Key just down the road from you. There was a ton of some kind of seaweed and was too difficult. I did manage one that came up a half inch short. Thanks for your content!
IMO: Take the $7k and use it toward the motor you want. It will be close, but I suspect you will come up a little short on a new motor. But new is always better since you know that the break in periods were done correctly and you didn’t buy someone else’s problems.
Salt Strong now has a flexible/foldable ruler that you can keep in your bag. It's tear proof and rolls up...I'll be grabbing a couple myself. Might want to check them out. Tight lines
You should put a mark on the min. Limit for the fish you are targeting. That way you don’t have to have a tape to measure you have it marked on your rod.
I went out to Fort Morgan to the beach off Mobile St and threw a Z man trout Jig head with a gulp 4 inch curly tail. I got 12 flounder between two days 2 of which were keepers. I believe they were all Gulf flounder and most of them were right on the shore in the wave crash zone. Was out there on the 21st and the 22nd of September.
work on replacing the motor as you said talking to the dealers to see what might be available...the boat replacement offer maybe good but may not get you back on the water without issues. if time permits it would be cool to see you out on the kayak crossing some eyes.
Keep the boat and bye the motor! Now, as you stated, I would speak with some marine stores and get a quote for both the motor and install price. You should be able to replace the motor as follows or at least close to this; 25 HP - 100 HP $4,000 to $12,000 give or take. Take the quotes you get and go back to your insurance company with results.
Bust Out Another Thousand (BOAT), motors are expensive as you know but, probably the best option, Good Luck, tight lines in Surfcity with the bummy stick, 26 inch blues
So the insurance company totaled the boat for less than the cost to repair or comparably replace it with? Man that;s terrible!! Since you already know and like the boat you should get a motor and keep it.
Thats only 2 grand for the boat and trailer. If you could swing another 2 or 3 grand on top of the 7 for the motor you should get a pretty good one that will last.
Please check AI insurance first they pay a lot more than your local State Farm or Allstate or whoever you have insurance with. Thank you. Love your videos.
I landed 4 Blues around 20" yesterday morning from the beach at SGI before the mandatory evacuation notices started coming in at 9:00 am. Hooked and lost 3 other big bites. Using Ladyfish as cut bait. Also caught one short Pomp.
Don't you have a boat partner at BBO? Talk to them, I'm sure they'd be honest with you. People reposer all the time. They may have a good motor they just took off a boat that they'd give you a good price on. May actually put some money back in the college fund
KEEP THE BOAT. ALL OF THE MANUFACTURERS RIGHT NOW ARE HAVING FALL CLOSEOUT SALES FOR EXAMPLE YOU CAN GET A 60HP HONDA JET MOTOR FOR $6,000. SHOP AROUND AND WHEEL AND DEAL!
Whoh... The insurance company would not allow you to remove the Spot Lock before they take it???? I thought you installed that trolling motor? $9K can get you a decent used 75hp... But you should be pissed off the insurance company isn't covering "Replacement Value"... That is, unless you only Declared a value of $9K ??
What flounder lol? We can't keep any this year. Go to VA and you can keep 6 per person or SC where you can keep 5 per person and we can't keep them recreational at all...but have a much larger commercial limit in NC. I guess they think we are dumb enough to believe that fish know where state lines are and avoid NC, and we can't work out that all of our recreational weight is getting tossed over to commercial.

Mark your rods with legal size limits. So then you have to keep running back and forth to measure the fish or worry about bringing a scale.
Thanks for taking us along! Tight lines and good luck no matter what you decide on the boat!
EASY decision about the boat. Yeah, you want the boat so keep it. Take the 7 Grand and find a good motor or have it rebuilt properly. Even if you have to add a few bucks, you still will have the boat you want. An easy one to decide.
Flounder are the funnest fish to release. They really scoot!
Makes me laugh every time.
Yes, keep the boat and go shopping for a new or newish motor!!
Fun video to watch. Listening to the waves is an extra benefit. God bless you guys
I meet you and brad at the store that day.
I dont use banks, its a no brainer since you know the boat, take that 7k add $$$ to it and get a great motor!
I hear someone has 10 newly acquired ones!
Thank you for clarifying the way you set the hook for flounder, that helps tremendously, can't wait to deploy new stradegy!
Hopes and prayers to you and all the beach bum family with Helene. Stay safe my friend ❤
It was doing the exact same thing yesterday on Perdido Key just down the road from you. There was a ton of some kind of seaweed and was too difficult. I did manage one that came up a half inch short. Thanks for your content!
If the boat is still useable keep it & take the $7K.
You will be a whole lot closer to getting a motor for $7K than a boat & motor for $9K. 😊
Just love watching these flounder videos
Hi Matt , I would definitely keep the boat . you should be able to find a new motor for 7 grand . God bless and good fishing 🎣 🎣🐟🛥️🚤
Motor, maybe a sponsorship deal with the Marine Shop. Between the YT and the store you have eyes on…
IMO: Take the $7k and use it toward the motor you want. It will be close, but I suspect you will come up a little short on a new motor. But new is always better since you know that the break in periods were done correctly and you didn’t buy someone else’s problems.

You can 100% find a replacement motor for 7k!!! Keep your boat!!
When I was young, we used a coleman lantern gigging. I also got stingray, taste just like scallops.
Can you try using live bait as well? Absolutely love these flounder videos.
You should put a mark on the min. Limit for the fish you are targeting. That way you don’t have to have a tape to measure you have it marked on your rod.
Have you ever caught a flounder that had been gigged? Caught one a few years ago that had gig scars.
Keep the boat, its set up the way you like it. Look for a motor.
I went out to Fort Morgan to the beach off Mobile St and threw a Z man trout Jig head with a gulp 4 inch curly tail. I got 12 flounder between two days 2 of which were keepers. Great video. Thanks
I use a tandum rig with Gulp. I caught a couple of 17" southern flounder off Pelican Island near Galveston about 3 weeks ago.
work on replacing the motor as you said talking to the dealers to see what might be available...the boat replacement offer maybe good but may not get you back on the water without issues. if time permits it would be cool to see you out on the kayak crossing some eyes.
What’s your favorite option for paints to wear on warmer days beach fishing?
Tohatsu outboard are cheaper because of no advertizing... but its the same manufacturer as mercury. Saw 60 HP by less than 5000
Keep the boat and bye the motor!
Now, as you stated, I would speak with some marine stores and get a quote for both the motor and install price.

25 HP - 100 HP $4,000 to $12,000 give or take.

Where do you order the Halco lures?
Man those Flys will role your paints up to bite you
Get a motor youngman. That's your best and safest bet. 👍
There are plenty of options.. Check with the channel, that boat guy I'm sure he can sell you a second hand motor
I'd take the 7k and keep my boat. Mercury has a 60 hp for $6,995. I don't think the 5 bucks left over would fix that harness though.
I found it easier to just put in finger mullet on them and line it up some poles.
You should try Fort Morgan probably catch some big ones heading out. They gonna be thick right after this hurricane blows the water out.
Matt what is the shaft length for your boat? 20, 25?? Saw a 60 hp Yamaha 20 " shaft for $5355 with free shipping.
Keep the boat look for a freshwater motor up in Georgia
I bought a brand new mercury that sat in top stock for 5 years from bass pro! No warranty, but 60% off!
What did you find strange on the public beach?
Salt water, lol. I hate titles like this. At least one time Strange to mean a pirate ship or something instead of nothing strange
Bust Out Another Thousand (BOAT), motors are expensive as you know but, probably the best option, Good Luck, tight lines in Surfcity with the bummy stick, 26 inch blues
The Atlantic is 100 feet from me and I am watching BBB videos.
I saw loads of people Gigging in gulf shores last Friday night, getting hard to find a spot
They are one of my favorite fish and I am from Michigan
I would try to hit a boat show you can usially get good prices on motors and accessories there.
So the insurance company totaled the boat for less than the cost to repair or comparably replace it with? Man that;s terrible!! Since you already know and like the boat you should get a motor and keep it.
" I did not bring anything to measure with." If you don't own a small tape measure, mark you pole .
Stay safe with the weather you have coming
I thought you were going to say you found a square grouper.
Take the $7K and get a rebuilt motor. $7k will will easily get you a 125 with money for installation and pocket money to boot.
90hp Honda 4 stroke available or 50hp Yamaha 4 stroke
Thats only 2 grand for the boat and trailer. If you could swing another 2 or 3 grand on top of the 7 for the motor you should get a pretty good one that will last.
new 60 horse yamahas are about 5500 so 7 grand sounds about right
You can get a 4-stroke of 60HP not far from what you have
Please check AI insurance first they pay a lot more than your local State Farm or Allstate or whoever you have insurance with. Thank you. Love your videos.
Damn brother if little ones were big ones you'd have a mess of fish
i am amazed how you can be on a public beach with not another soul in site. never get that on east coast central florida where i fish.
Wish west central Florida coast was that uncrowded. Hard to fish with all the people swimming or walking into your set.
You usually pay about $1000 for every ten horsepower. So you should be able to replace the motor for $7000
Get the motor for the boat.your viewers have spoken.
Anything else happening in the surf right now? Blues, Spanish, sharks?? Jack's?
I landed 4 Blues around 20" yesterday morning from the beach at SGI before the mandatory evacuation notices started coming in at 9:00 am. Hooked and lost 3 other big bites. Using Ladyfish as cut bait. Also caught one short Pomp.
Ohhh Awesome...I'll be at Fort Morgan all next week soo just trying to get an idea of how the fishing is right now...
Keep the boat and find a motor
Don't you have a boat partner at BBO? Talk to them, I'm sure they'd be honest with you. People reposer all the time. They may have a good motor they just took off a boat that they'd give you a good price on. May actually put some money back in the college fund
Reach out to That Boat Guy, he's a UA-camr in Florida. He may have a motor, or can lead you in the right direction.

KEEP THE BOAT. ALL OF THE MANUFACTURERS RIGHT NOW ARE HAVING FALL CLOSEOUT SALES FOR EXAMPLE YOU CAN GET A 60HP HONDA JET MOTOR FOR $6,000. SHOP AROUND AND WHEEL AND DEAL!
From the picture and title I thought you had made chicken foot stilts and were scaring little kids thinking it was T-Rex.
What is the latest about your motor
Maybe watch the video . 😂
Keep the boat
You can get a motor for 7k and get it put on for that price
Just looked on market place here 1989 50 hp for 2000 dollars.

I would replace the motor
I would take the 7 grand because you can get another Yamaha 60 for 7-8 thousand
Whoh... The insurance company would not allow you to remove the Spot Lock before they take it???? I thought you installed that trolling motor? $9K can get you a decent used 75hp... But you should be pissed off the insurance company isn't covering "Replacement Value"... That is, unless you only Declared a value of $9K ??
Any bird nerds know what bird it was end of video? Pileated Woodpecker or King Fisher are my guess.
You can almost get a new motor for 7k
Just found you a motor for $2800
what was very strange?
Flounder in NC Sucks now! Too many regs
What flounder lol? We can't keep any this year. Go to VA and you can keep 6 per person or SC where you can keep 5 per person and we can't keep them recreational at all...but have a much larger commercial limit in NC.
