Ok, 450,000 views and 19 comments? And no offense, but some of them aren’t even really true or of much depth of thought. Here we go: 1. He does hit a couple volleys “on his back foot (at :14, :16),” but it’s no big deal. He performed the unit turn pivot and loaded up who’s weight in tr outside foot, and didn’t have time or space to come off it. It’s not a groundstroke. It’s not really an angular momentum stroke. It’s more of a linear momentum push or swipe. 2. He “tracks the ball with his eyes.” Yes, that’s how humans track things, with their vision. 3. These are unrealistic volleys. He’s not really practicing. He’s warming up. He is getting balls down the middle of the court, which pros rarely see in matches. Passing shots are usually hit to the sides of players, not at them. This is not great practice. He does go back to the service line sometimes though, simulating practicing a first volley. For better practice, more realistic practice, he should back up and start again every couple volleys. 4. He’s using more shoulder turn on the backhand volley, partially because that’s how Bh volleys are hit, and also because his grip favors the forehand slightly, an Australian grip, and he’s not changing much or at all for the backhand. His fh volley is flatter, and his bv has more underspin, because of his grip. 5. He’s the most talented volleyer in the history of tennis, seemingly equal to McEnroe. 6. His overhead is simple. It’s a pleasure to watch him on UA-cam, TV or live. I’ve seen him twice from the front row.
