  • The polar night has arrived in the Arctic but just before the sun went behind the horizon we were able to go for a mission in northern Norway.
    The hopes for finding an incredible early winter line were high when we finally saw a weather window good enough to go for the first trip of the season.
    On this mission, we are facing many questions regarding safety and are required to start pondering how to actually determine a successful day in the mountains.
    Enjoy!

    It really is a pleasure to watch these episodes. And it's really good to show the process of decision making and that you decided to retreat instead of just cutting success after success. So people learn that it's normal to turn around if you're not comfortable.

      Thank you. I fully agree. It’s highly important to be ok to turn around and in general to really listen to yourself and read the signs. Snow is such a complex topic that it requires rather a lot focusing and understanding to get things right in big mountains. Luckily it’s not only about the big lines. We can enjoy mellow turns too and have a good day out when conditions aren’t on point

    Good call and a nice perspective "a good day is when you make good decisions" rather than complete the original objective. ✊

    You should link up with Nikolai and do an episode. From California and visited Tromso about four years ago. Love seeing this area in vids with the awesome cinematography. Keep up the good work!

    Wonderful episode and great work with the editing and cinematography. Your work is an inspiration and an example to us all. I reckon that in my book this may even be high on the list for the title "Line of the Season", but not due the line itself but because the decisions involved in riding this line are well worth the title.

      Yes, always lot of questions and problems to be solved in the mountains. Definitely important to remember what does risk taking mean.

    Great episode! Just love that light in the north that time of the year!
    Was in the area from Narvik to Kiruna once between christmas and new years. Was beautiful, looking forward to get back onetime!
    Did you recognise wether there were more rainy novembers since being a kid in northern finland?
    According the IPCC the arctic is one of the areas with the fastest changing climates right now...

      Thank you. I’m big fan of Narvik and Kiruna area also. Good terrain and nature there too.
      At least in my home we can see the winter’s not being that predictable anymore. We do get fair amount of snow but the natural cycle isn’t there anymore.
      I think for seeing the biggest proof of changes up in the Arctic you have to go to glaciers to witness the situation first hand. Also Svalbard is a place where climate change has been affecting the nature.

    Another great episode, thanks a lot! Very inspiring once more! What stance and angles are you riding? I've always been wondering how you manage to assemble the split and strap in in such steep terrain? In no video I've seen so far it was shown. Would be really intetesting to know or maybe even see. Wish you a great season 🤙

    • @AnttiAuttiChannel
      @AnttiAuttiChannel  2 роки тому

      Thank you🙏🏼 My stance is around 55-57cm depending on the board. In front I usually have +21 and in the back +3.
      Assembling a split and strap in is sometimes a bit difficult on a steep terrain. I always try to create a platform to get organized but sometimes you just need to wiggle it a bit. This is a good question by the way and I’ll make sure to create example content around this topic in the future. Thanks🤙

      @@AnttiAuttiChannel Dear Antti, thank you very much for taking the time to reply and all the info. Absolutely appreciate it! Btw, the mountain you showed where you learned all about freeriding, where you could ride all the way to your car, looks absolutely beautiful and perfect for a getaway daytrip. @@AnttiAuttiChannel sorry to bother once more, but when you are in steep terrain, do you strap in toeside to the mountain to have the mountain to "hold on to" or heelside to the mountain, especially if there is just little space or a very small platform available?

    • @AnttiAuttiChannel
      @AnttiAuttiChannel  2 роки тому +1

      @@t.blaschke7461 Hi, It depends on the location a lot. I do prefer making a platform to get organized that way you can usually choose how strap in also but it all depends on how the conditions and location is where the preparing is made.
