I grew datura for years from seed until my niece and I watched an episode of Untold Stories of the ER - a gentleman almost died after he moved the plant and then ate food-they think he touched the plant and then his food. I went outside and ripped mine out of the ground -- I took a deep breath when you touched the flower. Happy Mother's Day to you - beautiful tree.
I had no idea it was so toxic!
You always make the most beautiful planters and hanging baskets!
Aww thanks! I love making them!
Love the new tree, beautiful color. The hanging basket turned out just gorgeous.
Thanks so much! 😊
Absolutely stunning and beautiful love the hanging basket and tree gorgeous ❤❤❤ Happy Mother's Day to you and have a fabulous day and garden tour!!!
Thank you! You too!
Dear Amanda. Absolutely love your bougainvillea. The color part of the flower is the bract and the little flowers inside are actually the flower. I hope that makes sense. Definitely protect in winter. If you put it in your garage, make sure it is off the floor with some bricks. Wrap the pot to keep the roots as warm as possible. Cut back on watering. Loves the heat and sunshine in summer
This is awesome advice … thank you so much!
Very pretty tree. Enjoy and happy mothers day to you. ⚾️
Thank you! You too!
Thai Delight! My favorite bougainvillea 💕 I live in zone 9a where our winter temps are below freezing in the winter. I winterover my bougainvilleas by draping them with tiny white twinkle lights and throwing an old sheet over them. They hate temps below 40° so do this early and they’ll be happy. Lovely choice! Also, they love the summer heat and do not need fertilizer. They like to be root bound and don’t like transplanting…so keep it in its pot.
I will definitely keep it in its pot! Thanks for letting me know!
The bougainvillea is absolutely stunning. Love the color. I have grown them before in big pots on my side deck. Very low maintenance. Also the hanging basket is beautiful.
I’m glad to hear that they are low maintenance!
Happy Mother’s Day to you! What a beautiful basket & the Bougainville is to die for.
Thank you and you too!
I give you BIG props for working in such hot weather! Garden on!
It’s been crazy hot! And my allergies are intense!
I love the colors of the bougainvillea, just beautiful, so is the hanging basket
Thanks!
Love the nursery tour
Thanks!
Bougainvillea is so pretty, I wish it was hardy in zone 8, I'd have it everywhere
Same ❤️
Jannie from Dig, plant, water, repeat grew bougainvillea at her old property and had lots of great tips. She lives in California so didn't have to overwinter it, but she had a lot of care tips. It's probably about a year and a half ago. That tree is beautiful!!
Yes, they grow beautiful in climates like CA!
A bougainvillea - that's special. I have a small pink one in a 6" pot on my windowsill. I've had it for several years and every February it blooms. The bright pink flowers are so welcome at that time of year (zone4) In your climate, you get the real deal with an outdoor plant. Very pretty the one you chose. Sometimes mine drops a lot of leaves (less than optimal growing conditions) but it always comes back. This year it is blooming twice.
That’s all great info about the bougainvillea… thanks!
Grow the fatura from seed. It blooms the first year. Stunning. You'll luv it. Big impact!
Very cool!
Happy Mothers Day!!! 😊
Same to you!
Beautiful hanging basket, as always! Looking forward to your lantana video. 😊
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful bougainvillea. They have deep tap roots and do not like their roots messed with. Buy the biggest pot you can when you transplant it. They love regular fertilizer. They can survive light freezes but not hard freezes.
Awesome, thank you!
Love it, and happy Mother’s Day to you.
Same to you!
Hi Amanda I just love the tree and planter and what beautiful choices of lantana!those are my go too's they actually are a perennial for me.🕊️💚
I’m excited to get the lantana planted!
Bouganvilia. 😮❤. Wow. Colore.
🌷🌷🌷
Almost lost my two Bouganvillas in the big freeze. They go in the greenhouse during the winter, loose their leaves but are usually blooming in the winter. They love full sun. Love the black dress by the way!
Thanks for the tip!
Ooh…bougainvillea is absolutely pretty, but also pretty dangerous. There was a huge one in my backyard on Galveston Island. Trying to cut it back was literally dangerous with those spikes.
This particular variety didn’t seem to have thorns but I had one called Blueberry last year that had crazy thorns!
Bougainvillea does well in part shade for me in zone 8a NC. I overwinter in my greenhouse. I find it does like fertilizer. Mine is about 20 years old.
Oh, I’d love to tuck some in my shade garden!
Bougainvillea loves to be pot bound per my friend in Austin who grew hers in a pot in the ground. It bloomed profusely. Good luck! Your plant is stunning.
Thanks for the info! Maybe I’ll leave it in the nursery pot for now 🤔
Your yard is so amazing I know you’ve had many years work. I’m new but this rain is difficult you don’t seem to have a issue
Oh I’ve had issues … the back half of my backyard is flooded and I’m having to install a French drain next week 😬
Datura is a gorgeous plant with very fragrant flowers. I grew that purple one and a white one from seeds this spring. Extremely easy to do so. They're usually confused with brugmansias. Difference is that brugmansias flowers dangle down, datura's don't. Not a vining plant, more like a shrub.
Doan's nursery 622 S Belt Line Rd, Irving, TX 75060, has that bougenvellia for 1/2 the price. You should visit it, next time you are in Irving. There's also an another nursery behind it, I recommend called Chamber's nursery.
That is an amazing price on the bougainvillea! I’ll have to check it out, thank you!
The basket arrangement specially the purple heart and pink sunpatient combination looks beautiful 😍! The bougainvillea is a common plant of my birth country (Bangladesh), but the color of this plant is just stunning!! It tempts me, but too high maintenance tree for a beginner like me 😒. Someday!
It was definitely pricey 😬 I’ll definitely purely be disappointed if I can’t overwinter it!
Them moses in the boat[purple plants ] in your hanger basket will die back for the winter, but will come back in the middle of spring time.
Awesome! Thank you!
Love bouggies!!! I use to have one but hard to keep alive in winter freezes
I hope I can help it survive!
Gorgeous bougainvillea ❤I grew one in a huge plastic pot for 2 years it grew ovee 8ft tall. I had to get rid of it due my two small grandchildren playing in the backyard it really hurts when they touched it. My neighbor has it doing wonderful here in zone 9a florida. It comes back yearly here.
Some of them have some crazy thorns!
if you hung the hunging basket from high in the center of the porch, it might show the flowers from all sides, as the pot would be shaken by the wind
That would be pretty! But I would hit my head when I came to sit down … I’m really tall!
Bougainvillea here in California are perennial and grow big. And i do like lantana too. It grows so well here zone 10 its planted along freeways.
Yes, I’ve seen walls of bougainvillea in CA before … just gorgeous!
I’m here in SoCal 9b. Bougainvilleas grow like crazy here. Just watch how much water you give it. As they mature they are very drought tolerant and don’t like a lot of water. I’ve killed more by overwatering than under watering. So when growing in a pot make sure there is no buildup of moisture.
Oh good to know, thank you
Wow! That is an epensice annual! 😲 I hope you are able to overwinter it. I live in Southern CA, zone 10a. I didn’t even realize they were so tender. They grow live weeds here. They can entirely grow up and over a garage. People wll often cut them right down to the ground in the winter to get then under control.
I hope I can overwinter it too 😬😬😬
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Wow! The bougainvillea is stunning. I'm using more and more lantana every year. Besides all the avantages you mentioned rabbits and dear don't eat it.
Good to know that rabbits and deer leave it alone!
It's beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Oh I had no idea those come in tree form also. That’s a first for me and it is beautiful. I screenshot it and showed my friend and her reaction was “how far is Wylie from here?” 😂💜
😂😂😂 for real! I have never seen them in this larger tree form either!
I grew purple prince Alternanthera from seed this year. It could not have been easier!
Really?!?!? Where do you get the seeds?
@@shesamadgardener I can’t remember…either Swallowtail Gardens or Burpee
Your planters are beautiful. Your garden has beautiful blooms. How often do you fertilize your plants in spring and summer?
About once a month … I should do it more but I usually forget!
I have a gardening friend that grew Datura. I don’t recall much about it, other than it was always the most interesting plant in her garden. Very showy and a conversation piece for sure! Overtime it got fairly large, forming a mound about 6 feet wide and 3 feet tall.
Your shade container is beautiful! Love the textures and contrast!
Thanks for the info! I’m going to research it some more!
The Flame Thrower Redbud would be gorgeous out near the corner of your corner lot. A whole expansive flower bed at the corner would be a knock out and eliminate water and fertilizer hog lawn. Drip irrigation would be helpful with water wise and native plants.
It is such a beautiful tree!
Good morning! I love your new tree and that basket turned out great! ❤
Thanks!
I have been watching you for a few weeks, and I really enjoy your channel. Now, I have to have a Bougainville! I live in Florida, so it can stay out all year.
Oh, it will do beautifully in Florida!
Beautiful arranged hanging basket. Love the Tai Delight 👍
Thank you so much 😊
Love the color of the Bougainvillea tree! I use a lot of lantana each year and there are so many pretty colors. I have a Miss Huff lantana that comes back every year .....so far:-)
Ooo, I’ll go look up that variety!
The bougainvillea is gorgeous, Amanda! Good choice! Did you know that lantana is extremely toxic to cats and dogs? I just read this. Worth mentioning….love your videos! Your garden is beautiful!🤗🌺💐🙏🦩🌷🌻🐰😉
Good to know! I’m lucky that my pets don’t mess with my garden … I have quite a few plants that are toxic.
Beautiful Bougainvillea. How long has your Virginia Creeper been growing?
Two years!
Have you ever put plastic inside the coco liner? I am thinking of doing that for the summer as I have to water 2xs a day on these hanging baskets. Im hoping to retain a bit of water. Of course with some holes.
I haven’t but I’ve seen others do it and it seems like a very smart idea!
Hi, datura and brugmansia are lovely, but they are also incredibly toxic to people and pets. I have a very short list of 5-6 plants I consider too risky. So many plants are classified as ‘toxic’ but these are two that I actually do not grow on my property even though they are showstoppers-I find they are especially gorgeous as mature specimens in large containers. Just be aware and place them appropriately.
Thanks for sharing! I had no idea that they were so toxic
I was wondering if maybe you're growing the wrong petunias if you grow the proven winners bubble gum super tunia, they love the heat and mine are thriving
I live in Central Texas
I’ve grown supertunias for years and love them! However, they die in my hot summers … I have a video on the pros and cons of supertunias if you are interested!
Moving the camera to fast , I was getting dizzy lol
