Thanks Jason. Hearing your explanation, I’m not sure why all the objections. I just downloaded 27 and will start playing with old files and see what issues I run into. I LOVE the background color suggestion. Setting that up right now!
Yeah, you just gotta be careful with older files and collaborating with people that don’t have v27. But the next few videos in the series help to explain how to avoid some of those font pitfalls. And at least there’s forward conversion from non-SMuFL to SMuFL now as of the first maintenance update in v27.1.
The improvements from what you're nicely explaining here, almost sound like a glorified version of an update, rather than what we're going to have to pay to get v.27. It's kind of like improvements to the engine, but not much has changed inside the car and how it feels and operates. I do like the idea of the SMuFL improvements, and I hope this encourages Avid to get Sibelius up to speed as well. I'd still like to see simple things like the magnifying tool and the hand grabber tool completed eliminated; get ride of the Navigational Tool Palette altogether.
I just installed Finale 27 and I have some issues with saxophones having more voices/parts in one staff system. Only of the parts play back. And so far I have only problems with the saxophones. Is this problem known to others? On top of that I have problem with the cursor disappearing when I am in 'Simple Note Entry' when I hover over the Playback Controls or other dialog boxes on the screen.
This video is more of a review of the v27 update. I've got 260 other videos that are instructional on a couple dozen different topics. Have a look at the website where the organization of those videos is a little easier to navigate. If you're looking to learn about specific functions or tools in Finale, there's a good chance you'll find it somewhere on the website. www.conqueringfinale.com
Are you planning on making a video about pagination? Positioning and numbering are very cumbersome and always a hit or miss for me. One of the things I always have trouble with is beginning with page 2 on a left page.
You might want to check out some of the videos on Page Layout. Particularly the last video on this page deals with blank pages. www.conqueringfinale.com/perfecting-page-layout
Note: TGTools harmonics does not work with SMuFL. The workaround is to use the legacy document style. I didn't get much out of this update, oops, I mean upgrad.
TGTools Easy Tremolos doesn't work either. It's a known issue that is supposedly high on their priority list. Hopefully, Finale (or Tobias) will get a fix for that in a very near future maintenance update.
The percussion fix alone is worth the upgrade as far as my business goes. So many fixes/changes I wish they'd make but maybe with a little more complaining to corporate...
Jason--I am curious as to whether, among the small group of glitch fixes, 27 takes care of the issues with: (1) turning on and off staccato; (2) crashes when assigning score manager to 3d party voices (e.g., NI, Arturia, UVI)?
ISSUE: If you TRY to change an old document to SMuFL fonts that had NON - it will not allow this. You must convert to XML first. You might want to mention this! THIS is the FINALE Help suggestion: WARNING! If switching your Default Music Font between a SMuFL font and a non-SMuFL font is necessary, this is possible but not recommended. The best way to accomplish this is to use MusicXML. First, export the document with File > Export >MusicXML. Then, open a document template or style designed with the desired default music font, and import the MusicXML file into this document with File > Import > MusicXML.
I guess the biggest point to upgrade is the "bugs squashed" argument, but they will probably introduce new bugs, which will be squashed by another update costing $
These are extremely minor improvements that any other software developer would include as a free upgrade, saving the big ticket items for the next version roll out. Trying to pass this off as a full priced new version is pathetic.

It's become popular to bash finale. Yet it has the speedy entry, which is a million times better than any other way to enter notation.
Great channel! Just downloaded 27 and looking forward to the dive in.
3 years ago! But v27 is the latest version being given away with Dorico? Wow...

Is there a video about Finale with less talk and more sound and working with it? Please, let me know!

I would like very much that during the installation process you can choose whether you use A4 or Letter size paper.

Are there videos on how to use VSL libraries for mock-ups?
No, I haven’t done any videos on that sort of thing. Sorry

Yeah… it was worth a whole video which is why I mentioned it only briefly while suggesting people keep watching the next couple of videos! ;-)
@@ConqueringFinale Indeed - hope I didn't offend :)
What about optimization for apple silicon?
From what I understand, Finale 27 will run on an M1 under Rosetta, and they made no mention of making it M1 native. So as of now... I don't think so.
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S on Windows!
Excellent, thanks for the confirmation.

Honestly yeah
I love finale though
Too expensive for too less (for update 26->27)
