    Considering the show's history of pushing drinks on contestants and also not cutting people off (ex. Chad from last season never being cut off when he obviously drank too much before going into a rage), I am of the opinion the producers could have easily prevented this if they weren't so concerned with getting "great footage."
    I like Bach shows for the trash they are but I am well aware of how shady production can be. The show unREAL was created by a former producer of the show that was known for her ruthlessness with getting contestants to break. Watching an episode of that, you get an even better idea what the producers are like to the contestants.

      While it may be sleazy (if that were even the case), adults are responsible for their own actions. It's not like it was their first experience with alcohol.

      Pat Fenis oh dudem watch unREAL you mind will change.

    • @kathleend8172
      @kathleend8172 7 років тому +1

      Pat Fenis Sorry just saw your reply now. While I agree people should be aware of their own limits, knowing how alchohol is always conveniently offered to contestants makes the producers in a way the cast's bartenders. Bartenders are suppose to cut people off that appear too drunk and also are suppose to call them a cab. Which is why I think that in situations where contestants are too drunk, producers should be cutting them off.
      I should clarify this is more just a thought I have for how the show should deal with extremely intoxicated contestsants in general, and not just this specific situation. At this point this situation has seemed to be resolved as the show is resuming. But I'm assuming the network is going to push the show to be more active in cutting off people that are too drunk.

    • @gr33dyglutton
      @gr33dyglutton 7 років тому +3

      +Kat - No, producers are producers, not baby sitters, not lawyers, not bartenders, doctors or prison guards. The reason bartenders are expected to act, is to protect the public, not to act as a nanny for the drinker. Just because someone is drinking booze 'in your house', doesn't mean they're suddenly incapable of being responsible for themselves, or are unaccountable for their own actions.
      It would seem, as it originally appeared, that no one was 'extremely intoxicated'. This chick made some decisions that she regretted, and instead of taking personal responsibility for her own decisions/actions, she started looking around for someone else to blame them on. The show has said in no way did their staff do anything wrong, meaning, if they change policy it's solely for publicity's sake.

    From what I'm getting from this, in short, she regretted it AFTER she initiated the original act, the lines are blurry since both were drunk but with the current information. I don't really think she's the victim.

      we know only women can be raped in the eyes of the law. However, a man can be a victim of sexual assault, which is what we usually think of as "rape." The man can claim sexual assault if certain criteria are met.

    • @Qopa

      woman can easily win the case because society doesn't see them as an equal to men. Equality, nope, who need that shit right feminist? As long as we ruin their lives and getting em easy cash.

    • @ksad96
      @ksad96 7 років тому +11

      Tiger H. Lore Usually in such situations, the woman has the advantage, as men are more assumed to be the assaulters. So if both are drunk, more likely in the case of he-said she-said, the judgment tends to favor the female's perspective.

    I think the issue with the Bachelor in Paradise scandal is obviously about consent, but if the claims about Corinne being "limp" are true, why in the hell didn't producers stop it? They filmed the entire encounter! The show offers unlimited free alcohol everyday 24/7 and there is virtually no cut off point. Yes, I understand that each contestant is responsible for their own actions of drinking too much, but when will the line be drawn for producers to intervene for everybody's safety? Also, a big issue was that other contestants told producers to stop filming and help DeMario & Corinne, but they ignored their complaints and continued filming for the sake of drama. How is this okay? Why aren't the producers getting more flak?

    • @SabrinaLatoya

      Seashell Bra I think the show doesn't want to take the heat. They have a show currently airing right now and they don't need the negative reports towards them so hey let's create a story and pin it on Demario say he raped
      her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Why would Demario or any man (let's really think about this one) rape someone or take any sort of sexual advantage of anyone while there's are cameras filming. That's suicidal

    I respect how Corinne pointed out how DeMario was also drunk and how neither of them could really consent. Many times have I heard stories of two intoxicated people engaging in sex only for one person to accuse the other of sexual assault. Unfortunately, I don't know how fair that is since when both people are incredibly intoxicated, both are unable to give consent. It's a messy situation in which there isn't always a happy ending for all. :(

    • @JameyMcQueen

      Lorren Charles the only way I would could blame the producers in this situation is for not stopping what may or may not have happened. Both of them were very intoxicated and therefore neither of them could consent to sex. The producers should have stopped that before anything happened

    • @fowlin996
      @fowlin996 7 років тому +26

      Lorren Charles If the story of her going limp is true, then the producers could possibly be at fault for recording and not stopping a rape/sexual assault.

    • @weirdA8364
      @weirdA8364 7 років тому +20

      The thing is though if they're in the pool and she's going limp the producers should have put a stop to it immediately.
      Both were drunk.
      Judgement is impaired and everyone's reaction to alcohol is very different.
      The accusation of rape is worrying, yes, for both parties involved. However.
      I'm a little more concerned with the fact that they were swimming, she was going limp, and the chances of accidental death by drowning was 50/50.
      Of course, that scenario didn't happen but that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened.
      If you're doing a show VIA script and you know what is meant to happen then you should set some form of limit. Sure, you're trying to pass it off as reality... But what's more "real" than someone from the producing team stepping in to say that it's enough and to go sleep it off...

    • @Divinemartyr
      @Divinemartyr 7 років тому +7

      Reality shows have this extreme habit of cultivating situations which create highly dramatic moments. What I mean is, they want you to get drunk, they want you to act like a fucking moron, and they want you to be sexually promiscuous... however in a lot of cases contestants don't want to go over a line, they don't want to whore themselves out on camera. They're fine with acting like villains or getting into each others faces or drinking but they HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY: "IF I act like a fool, or am doing something I don't want to be doing, don't let me do it." The show could have easily allowed them to get raunchy and then pull them apart... There is no reason for producers and camera people to try and ascertain whether or not something that just happened is legal or consensual, if it WAS EXPLICITLY consensual. When the producers filed misconduct reports that took this out of a he said she said scandal and made it into allegations. They are actors. I know that's tough to swallow, but they are acting on set, they are encouraged to make it feel as real as possible... but they are still acting.
      The show, the producers, and the network had an obligation to protect both parties. And I applaud Corrine for putting the blame on the show rather then DeMario (DeMarino..? Sp?)

      They are both guilty. They're both victims and both aggressors. Either both should be brought up on sexual assault charges, or neither of them, since both were too drunk to give reasonable consent.

      I was in a car accident, that did not hurt me at all in terms of pain i think, but i lost my memory, I have no memory of the accident, or what i did afterwards, but I see picture of me clearly standing there in blood, or sitting at the side waiting for the ambulance while people who pass by is helping. I have few memories when i was in hospital and i could talk in coherent sentences when i apparently had "goldfish" memory for a brief period of time few days... as a guy that has never tasted alcohol in my life. it is the pictures of me functionally moving around when i have zero memory of being in that situation or that location I assumed i woke up in the hospital. seeing me that isn't me is the only thing that disturbed me in that accident, and i could see it traumatizing someone. the car accident itself left me no marks, even thou people who came to help assumed i was dead.
      Maybe it is similar, not sure if it applies to someone who is seemingly used to being in a state where they have no recollection.

But to say you have NO recollection of an evening because of alcohol, and then to say that you are traumatized that you had sex with someone by only hearing about it is almost impossible. Unless you have had that traumatization before, just hearing about it should not traumatize you.

      I had GHB slipped in my drink at a bar once. I remember a little past drinking that drink, a few flashes of me stumbling in the streets in my thong, and then waking up around a toilet in the morning.
      I don't recall what happened that night beyond that. But I am still traumatized by that night- it is the loss of control and the not knowing what happened that is traumatizing to me. I assume, similarly, being told that stuff happened that you don't remember can be traumatizing.
      It does raise an interesting question if she would be traumatized if this hadn't been filmed and people weren't telling her that it was a traumatic event? As in, if this wasn't a public occurrence, would it be as traumatizing or traumatizing at all?

    How is it rape if she consented while drunk? It's her fault as much as it's his. Imagine if someone got drunk and then sat behind a wheel, would that person be right to claim innocence because he/she was drunk? I don't think so, that person would be sent to jail or fined for drunk driving. Fuck these double standards

    • @louisleifoh6767
      @louisleifoh6767 7 років тому +13

      First of all when one is drunk they can't consented under the law in America so if you have sex with a drunk girl and she says you raped her you did, so point of the story don't have sex with drunk girls, don't try to get a girl drunk to get in her pants , if you can't hook up with a girl when she is sober, and you get her drunk to do so your raping her more or less.

    • @GameFreak7744

      > I know if I was a guy, I would refuse to sleep with a drunk person in order to protect myself
      I mean, that's all very well and good to say sober, but drunk as shit yourself its hardly so clean cut. The whole point here is that drunk people don't always make great decisions.
      Also worth noting here that the mens rea is very important. Basically this means that if you honestly believe the other person consents (and a reasonable person in the same situation would also believe so) then it can't be rape. Of course, mens rea can get... complicated when you're talking about inebriated people...

    • @carolanno3805
      @carolanno3805 7 років тому

      so if you can't make the decision not to sleep with a drunk person because you are drunk and therefore unable to make decisions...couldn't it be argued one can not consent when drunk? But then where does the responsibility go if someone is injured, physically or psychologically? Just like when a drunk person gets behind the wheel of the car.. they aren't doing it with the intent of hurting people and they wouldn't do it sober. I guess all becomes very complicated and problematic when looking where to place blame when someone is injured (feels they were sexually assaulted or taken advantage of in a situation like this).

    • @GameFreak7744
      @GameFreak7744 7 років тому +1

      It does present a potentially interesting and complicated dynamic, and if you were talking about only one person being drunk there is a case that *could* be made that it's exploitative.
      That said, I personally fundamentally disagree with the notion that somebody can't consent when drunk; I've done it myself countless times. Sometimes even out of my tree on psychedelic drugs too.
      My choice to take the drugs (including alcohol) and my choice to accept that I may do things I wouldn't do sober because they seem fun in the moment. I mean shit, what do people think these drugs are for? Lowering your inhibitions is part & parcel of the point of the things.

    I think that the police should watch the video evidence and they should determine whether it was rape or not. Corine has said two different things and even though if it is real it's hard for a victim to admit that they were raped, people may not believe her and they might think she's just changing her mind for the attention (for lack of a better word). I feel like that would put the thing to rest.

    • @Khepriem
      @Khepriem 7 років тому +15

      JMs World But I never said she never remembered it, and even if she didn't how does that make it right for a guy to lose his life? If a guy actually DID rape a woman but was drunk and didn't remember it the next day, does that mean he didn't rape her, but in fact because she was sober she raped him? I guess my point is that if both parties do the exact same thing, how is it that in this day and age where everyone is equal, male or female, one person is a victim and the other is worse than a killer? And for the record I detest the idea of rape and I believe anyone who is knowingly raping another person should in fact lose his/her life. But as someone who is months away from legally being an adult, and knowing of quite a few bitches who would actually purposely get drunk and cry rape the next day just to get back at their (now ex) boyfriends, this is by far one of the scariest nightmares I have that could actually come true. And honestly it doesn't help that I'm black if a rape allegation actually did go to court.

Personally, from the little information we have, it sounds like she just doesn't want to take responsibility for what happened because she was drunk. She's the walking definition of a drama queen. Furthermore, I think it's extremely telling that all of her "besties" from the show, that were in paradise with her, have unfollowed her on social media and they all have since followed Demario. I think Corinne probably drunkenly hooked up with Demario and later on realized the trouble that would cause within her relationship, so she changed her story.

Obviously non consensual sex is always wrong and the fault of the aggressor, but in terms of two very drunk people... take responsibility! You both made a bad decision to drink too much, knowing alcohol will inhibit your abilities.

    Re: Bachelor in Paradise story. Oddly enough my favorite part is where apparently onset they watched it happen and then asked afterward if it was consensual because that sounds to me like this went through their heads: "Is she being raped? I can't quite tell...best wait until it's over and then ask." Which seems outrageous to me. If you think someone's being harmed, if you're going to intervene it seems like the better time to do it would be before it goes any further. As for the woman's past promiscuity, that doesn't mean she can't ever get raped. If she was incoherent, unconscious, or slipping in and out of consciousness, then she can't give consent. If you don't have consent, or if consent is revoked either by default (gave it while sober, during the course of the sex alcohol got to the person and they passed out) or by being told the person wants to stop while sex is already occurring, it doesn't matter if the person has fucked everybody up and down the continent or how far along the current sex is, you gotta stop and if you don't that's rape. IS that what happened? I don't know, sounds like something for a court to decide.

    A rape allegation shouldn't be tried to be made redundant because of someone's history. It makes no sense and it is essentially a form of slut shaming. I don't particularly care about the case, but if the rape allegation is made a person's history, unless they have made false allegations before, doesn't contribute to the case.

I'm not saying the rape did or didn't happen, I just think we all need to wait and see until the footage comes out so we can figure it out better from there.

    The golden rule, don't drink around strange men if you know you get a little wild while drunk. Same reason why I don't drink around some of my female friends because I know they get a little wild, I get a little wild, and something sexual could potentially happen that may or may not ruin a friendship when we're sober. Most of everyone knows exactly how they act when drunk, so drink responsibly according to your current situation. If sexual interactions isn't considered comfortable or acceptable between the two of you when sober, then there are going to be some regrets in the morning. And it's not worth the risk of hardship and awkwardness in your friendship just to get your genitals wet. Common sense.

    The line generally drawn where drunk sex becomes rape, is when the drunk person is so inebriated that they are either so out of it that they aren't aware of what's happening or when they are unconscious. The only reason that people perpetuate the narrative that 'drunk sex is rape' is because some college campuses have taken stricter campus policies than the 'unaware or unconscious' rule. Legally speaking, even in cases where it can be verified that the victim was actually unconscious during the time sex occurred prosecutors still won't often touch the case because the victim contributed to their own condition and they know juries will sway against the victim. If she did indeed pass out and he continued, then there would be a rape case. If she was both conscious and aware during the act, there is no rape case. At least in the eyes of the law.

    Jake was drunk.
    Josie was drunk.
    Jake and Josie hooked up.
    Josie couldn't consent
    The next day Jake was charged with rape
    The point above highlights the double standard often used with these allegations. If Josie can't consent, is it fair to assume Jake can? When two drunk people hook up, the female is often painted as the victim and the male as the aggressor. Even if they are both equally drunk. I am in no way trying to justify rape or sexual assault in any way. It is completely unacceptable - full stop. But there is an important distinction to be made between this and the Rapist Brock Turner case, for example. One involves two drunk people, both of whom were probably too intoxicated to give consent. The other involves raping someone unconscious behind a dumpster.
    If she was significantly drunker than he was, then yes it's rape. But if he was was significantly drunker than she was, would she be a rapist and he a victim?

    • @thatboringone7851
      @thatboringone7851 7 років тому +4

      Tyler K
      It's unlikely for two people to be equally drunk (and no, being more drunk doesn't make a victim of rape the aggressor), and men _can_ report such an event as rape.
      The situation of "Jake was drunk, Josie was drunk, they had sex, Jake couldn't consent, the next day Josie was charged with rape" is as legally valid as the same situation with Josie being the victim.
      In both cases, the victim doesn't have a good chance of winning the case, unless there was hard evidence (video recording, audio recording, photographs, etc). The other party will likely claim they are not responsible due to being intoxicated.

    • @RachelDavis705
      @RachelDavis705 7 років тому +9

      You don't seem to care about the facts here because you opened with your ridiculous scenario where "Jake" gets charged with rape because both people were drunk. No one knows what happened between DeMario and Corinne right now. Some "sources" say she was passed out, others don't. You are so quick to assume she is falsely accusing him of rape when she hasn't even done that at this point. Right now, the blame is only being put on the producers. Yet you're here decrying men being falsely charged with rape, when that's not even what's happening. Disgusting.

      Yeah, I may not have any great fondness for the kind of people who are cast in these shows but credit where it's due, at least they're not taking shots at each other here. It would be so easy to go on the offensive, for her to call him a rapist and for him to call her a liar or a slut, but they're not. Whatever else comes of this, at least there's that.

    I agree with DeMario that the footage should be released. I probably wouldn't watch it myself as it may make me super anxious, but at the very least I can see how the news sources react to it, and the consensus and details they show can help me make a decision on where I stand with this. I can not under any good conscience make a judgment on either person in the controversy, only that the people behind the camera were in the serious wrong for letting it play out.

      HelenaTacy it seems like the course of action that makes the most sense. They can release it to a investigator or the police, I'm sure they can work out if both she and he were capable of consent.

    Pretty cool when you see a friend make the Philip DeFranco show due to a picture they took in the airport!! Awesome!!

    >A quickshooting black dude who was forced to eat a hairy kitty.
    >A drunk liberal chick who is diving into consent laws because she can't accept that she hit on a black dude and her BF will dump her for cheating.
    >A producer who wants to deal with none of this.
    What a mess but i'll laugh at it anyway.

    Woman too drunk to consent, rape victim.
    Man too drunk to consent, rapist.
    She talks about being traumatized by the events, but also says she was blackout drunk and remembered very little. That makes no sense. This 'cannot consent when drunk' bullshit is just that, bullshit. If you choose to drive drunk you're held accountable. Why are women not held accountable when they agree to, or initiate sex when intoxicated?

    • @Pizza23333
      @Pizza23333 7 років тому +14

      Because you're unable to consent or think clearly, and the too drunk to conscent rule is usually done in a situation where the intoxication is more one sided.

      Jock Duff But if they are both drunk then the male still gets called the rapist. It's fucked up

      Jock Duff then we go back to it's still your responsibility to not drive drunk. So why are they not held accountable when it's sex?

    • @jorgeherrera1074

      The reason is this: Being drunk and driving, that does not require someone else taking action for there to be a crash. Drunk driving is enough to cause the crash. However, being drunk and getting raped, that requires someone else to take action in order for that to happen.

      Gender Equality They are both drunkingly taking action though so they both should be seen as committing a "crime" not just the male.

    I'm a women and I can honestly say I had a similar situation last year. Both myself and that other person were extremely drunk although I don't necessarily remember certain specifics we did kiss and there was touching (no sex) and at that moment when I was sorta still conscious it felt right. The next morning I felt embarrassed ashamed depressed and til this day it made me traumatized and I sought help. I never blamed the other person I blame myself. I made a choice that night and choices have consequences.

      Can I ask why you felt ashamed? Did you feel a stigma for being sexually active? I'm just trying to understand since you implied it was consensual (in so far as a drunk person can consent)... or perhaps it was somewhat public -- which i can certainly understand the regret the next morning.

      Traumatized, really?
      Sheesh maybe I'm just of an older generation, but both me and friends of mine have done some stupid shit in our younger days, including waking up next to someone we wouldn't have been with had we been sober. Male or female, these aren't stories we tell with shaky voices and act as if we've been through something terrible, rather we tell them with the sound of laughter and "you idiot!" comments from friends.
      Learning experiences should be taken positively, not as reasons to fall apart.
      Anyway, not really trying to ridicule you or anything, it just surprises me to read things like this and I suspect society plays a part in making many of us over-react to certain things that we'd otherwise take in stride.

    So, there's evidence of what happened, and only one side is willing for it to be seen. Not only that, the side who want it hidden, have a clear motive as to why.
    Imagine a bank accused you of robbing them, and refuse to release security footage because it will make them look like a less secure bank. And accused thief keeps saying "release the surveillance video".
    It kind of screams at who the innocent and guilty parties are.

    How can you be traumatised by something you don't remember? Ask anyone who had their home broken into when they were asleep and didn't notice
