Osamu Tezuka’s Metropolis | Japanese Teasers and Trailers | 1999-2001

This video is to document all the know trailers and teasers to the 2001 anime film ‘Metropolis’ directed by Rintaro and Screen Play by Katsuhiro Otomo.
1999 Teaser The first teaser was released in 1999 as a demonstration teaser to show off the film and its technical capabilities, most of if not all of the animation was changed and altered, most notably the CG assets such as the surface, Ziggurat, and flying machines. As of 2022 it is not known if more footage of this older version of the film still exist, however there is still a cel of this trailer left in existence, the blue Tima from the fire. (Note: The footage from this trailer isn’t what the film makers had by 1999, more realistically it was a teaser that was much older and was released at a later date, how late or why I couldn’t tell and a lot about what happened during the films 5 year long production is still a mystery.)
2000-2001: These trailers more accurately resemble the film in a more finalized form, with the early 2000 teaser trailers using musical renditions of songs that weren’t present in the final film. (This is also true of the 1999 teaser.) Other notable things about these trailers is that the original release for Metropolis was going to be in July, however the film was released early in late May. Ray Charles’ iconic classic ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ makes its first appearance in 2001 on the 3rd trailer.

Not entirely, but some background art and unused concept art suggest there was a lot of cut material that hasn't surfaced.

@@annamariacantamessa5358 I don't believe so, as the film in its final state is most likely how the director intended the film to be as a tribute to Tezuka.
