When food gets low I make stuffed corn bread. I use 3 boxes of jiffy mix and prepare it like usual, I cook ground beef and add some tomato sauce to it. Then I lay some of the corn bread mix in a pan, add the meat sauce , a layer of cheese, then pour the rest of the corn bread on top and bake it. It’s so good and filling!
Wow what a great idea. Thank you for sharing this with us. I will definitely be making this for my family. I imagine any saucy meat would work. Thanks again for the new recipe to add to our meal plan.

Hey girl I’m a new subscriber when you buy the white rice put the bags in the freezer for 24 hours to kill the weevils and there eggs before putting it away for long term in jars or Mylar bags with O2 absorbers they will be no nasty surprises when you open it lol also the small bags of saffron yellow rice and chili is a good meal for two with some good corn bread

At Thanksgiving we always have corn casserole made with the Jiffy mix, canned corn, creamed corn, butter and plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream.) It's soooo good!
I add about 2 heaping table spoons of diced jalapeños (with the liquid) to one box of the regular Jiffy cornbread mix. Try it. The little bit of extra liquid doesn't effect it at all.
Gen X here to . I can alot of my own stuff. I make big batches of chili and then can it for later on. The price's today are atrocious. I remember Hamburger being 75 cents a lb and a loaf of bread a quarter 😮😮
just caught jiffy cornbread mix for .50 a box...got me 8 boxes 😊 i like those soup packets...kinda like a cup o soup, but taste way better 😋 i use those knorrs sides to make a full Meal those ramen turn into a great soup or stir-fry ❤
My Walmart here in Arizona marked down all the basic Great Value spices to $1. So garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, basil, parsley, italian seasoning, etc.
Thank you, there’s items I buy that’s more expensive at Kroger. Just a few cents but wow. I will head to Walmart today before Kroger. Thanks for the video
@@swissherbgirl2917 Thank you for sharing that. I’ve heard about the higher prices there. Good thing that wages are generally higher than the US though!
@@ahomesteadjourney I grow a lot of food but since my space is limited I don’t waste real estate on spices so no. I just buy organic pure spices when I can. At the very least I read labels. I had good luck buying glass jars at Sam’s.
I was excited to find some brand name spice blends at my Dollar Tree today, but a look at the ingredients showed that they contained SOY GRITS! I don't even know what that is! I left them there.
I was by my cousins house last year, and I had been cooking and started feeling horribly. Those spices were the only things that I’ve never used. Any company that takes out life insurance policies on their employees and collects money upon their death, I’m not eating from them! They’re very few things I’d buy from there. Food items are not on the list.

Sounds like something I could downsize for a single little old lady (me). Thank you!
We do the same, but add a can of cream corn to the jiffy mix.
This sounds yum 😋! How long to bake with the added meat sauce and cheese?

I look for mixes that… just add water. The krusty’s pancake batter is phenomenal.
Martha White’s has been a family favorite for all of my 60 years!!

Thank you for doing the leg work. Lots of great ideas!! Walmart appears to be a Preppers paradise.
@@jwhitty14 No problem! I’m happy to do so! ☺️ Agreed - it’s a great place for preppers!!
When the Jiffy cornmeal mix expires, I add 1 tsp baking powder to make it rise.
$1 for 1 serving of oatmeal is wild. Its only $3-$4 for a big can of oatmeal that will make 30 servings

I use that Jiffy mix in pot roast or stew sometimes as a thickener, along with cilantro it makes a nice alternative to same ol same ol :)

Walmart also makes a canned sloppy Joe mix, which is cheaper
I don't know if it has to do where you live but my Walmart does not have the selection that you are showing in the Great Value brand. Wish we did.
I hope it does soon! I'm in west Texas.
Cornbread, and pinto beans, fried tatters
I noticed in Australia there is hardly anything to find for under 1 $ in local supermarkets. Exept a fruit / 1 banana or 1 apple or so.
