I've lived out there in La Rochelle when I was a young student back in 1977-1978 and I have visited the region quite often since some of my family lived there in La Rochelle. Back then, the Airport's name was La Rochelle - Laleu then it was changed quite recently I assume and yes it is close to Ile de Ré but the the airport is not located on this island. It is on the mainland though close to Ré Island ( less than a 10 minutes drive ). This island used to be a pleasant unexpensive place where to live but now but after a number of celebrities, politicians etc.. had relocated to this island, it became so posh and expensive that the French parliament had to adapt some laws so that the locals could still live there ( some families had possessed land on the island since three or four centuries, most were farmers ) but the costs and taxes had skyrocketed so badly that people had considered leaving the Island ( this was back in the 1990s )... Anyhow, things seem to have stabilized since I haven't heard of this issue since quite a while now. Anyhow, thanks for this great video. Once upon a time only regional transport turboprops would fly to " Laleu ". I guess that now they have extended the runway to 7 or 8 thousand feet since 737s can now fly there from Airports in the London region... 👍👍

Thanks a lot for your interesting comment ❤️. I really appreciate it. My friends and I also call the airport ''Laleu''. It's actually an amazing and hassle free airport. I love Île de Ré and you're absolutely right about all the points you've made. It's sad though that some locals had to leave the island because of the astonishing living cost.
