  • I've been thinking about it ever since I finished the book, but I'm still unsure how to feel about aspects of #thelostmetal Look forward to my spoiler filled discussions of the conclusion of #mistborn era 2 over on ‪@LiteratureScienceAlliance‬ 's channel and elsewhere.

    I wanted another trilogy of Wax and Wayne adventure. It was a sad ending instead.

    It felt like it being so cosmere oriented changed its tone and it didn't quite fully match the time from the first 3. Does that make sense? Like it didn't fit with this trilogy to suddenly blow up in scope in cosmere stuff, while limiting the world building?
    Still packed some great punches, got me emotional, and I do love seeing all the cosmere stuff and finally getting answers!! I now love the characters that I loved from the beginning even more!

    Given that era 2 wasn't originally planned at all and when AOL was written it wasn't initially going to be a trilogy, I think he wrapped this up almost perfectly. A lot of the larger threats werent meant to be fully dealt with until era 3 or 4. I loved all of the character conclusions we got and we now have a much clearer picture of whats in store for era 3. We now better understand the players and the stakes for the fate of Scadrial.

    I think part of it is that Mistborn Era 2 wasn't originally planned and isn't quite its own Era but morphed into being the almost pre-era to Mistborn Era 3 so I think a lot of the remaining questions will get answered / explored in Mistborn Era 3. Also with how quickly technology is evolving, I think the time skip between Era 2 and Era 3 won't be that long and we may even see bits and pieces of characters from Era 2, especially the younger characters.

    Soo interesting man. Haven't read the book yet, but the trend really seems to be that people that were not really into era 2 are loving it, and people who loved it are having mixed feelings

    I feel like Lost Metal works okay as a Cosmere book, but it doesn't feel as much as a Mistborn Era 2 book

    Not done with the book yet, but it's already by far my favorite of Era 2. And definitely a top 10 favorite Cosmere book. The Cosmere connections are absolutely WILD.

    I think the ending works considering that there will be another era / that series are entertwined as while it isn't finished it is the overall aspects that need to be explored/intrigue for future books. The alloy of law specific character arcs felt finished to me.

    I’m pretty sure era 1 wasn’t a decade, handful of years I can see, but decade feels like a stretch with what I remember

      I double checked this and you are correct. Era 1 takes place over about 4ish years from what I can tell. So Era 2 technically is longer timeline-wise

    Just coming to me watching this, would Hoid really have taught himself to drive and aquire both cars and boats whereever he needed them? Or would he have used Awakening on a pile of Scadrial junk and just told it "take me where I need to go, and act natural"? And would that mean TaravOdium may be influencing the effects of his breaths with some Shardic blurring?

    I read all the published cosmere works, and Aether of Night and i hate how info dump in your face cosmere stuff is in this book. Main reason for that is that i liked searching and descovering all the little connections by myself and it felt rewarding.

    As someone who's read all of the cosmere except Stormlight, would you recommend reading Lost Metal now, or waiting? I just finished Bands of Mourning, so I'd like to finish Era 2 while I'm here, but I don't want to ruin anything from SA.

    • @QuestLegacy
      @QuestLegacy  Рік тому +2

      Unless you can draw a ton of conclusions with essentially no context, you definitely shouldn't have anything from The Stormlight Archive spoiled by reading The Lost Metal now. Personally I'd recommend you go ahead and read it now. As a huge Stormlight fan, I'd suggest you just read that next because its awesome haha.

      I actually think that reading the lost metal before storm light would be helpful to its plot. Especially before reading rhythm of war.

    • @cirodaraujo2686
      @cirodaraujo2686 Рік тому

      Probably stormlight is the least of cosmere references in The Lost Metal. Elantris and The Emperor's Soul are the major tie-ins.

      I think reading LM will spoil a big reveal in Rhythm of war tbh. I don't know if it's significant enough to read 4 thousand plus page books before LM, but for me personally, I wouldn't want it spoiled so I would read SA first 😅

    It's so interesting to me that you have mixed feelings, I loved this book so much, but the rest of the Era 2 was just fine to me.

  • @cirodaraujo2686
    @cirodaraujo2686 Рік тому +1

    Wasn't "misborn era 2" actually supposed to be mistborn era 1.5? I don't think he'd ever planned for the wax/wayne series to be completely self contained but more as bridge between the "main" eras. But basically the southern continent shenanigans are complete setup for era 3 and could basically be cut from this book with no damage to the plot. I also don't feel the need to have complete self contained story to have a satisfying conclusion. In fact I like mistborn era 2 a lot more than mistborn era 1 which I think has a young adult feel, not because it was written as a young adult work but more on the account of Brandon being a youngish adult when he wrote it, because of more interesting (if somewhat comic-bookish style) characters.
