Definitely gonna implement some of the things I learned here in my upcoming videos. 1. Tell exactly what the audience will be getting in first 10-15 seconds. 2. First two minutes hook. If the viewer stays then they'll stick till the end. 3. Use the right music that fits the mood. 4. When a part of the song gets repetitive, use your voice and give the viewer some extra information. 5. Remove any extra segment that changes the focus from the topic of the video. 6. Have a couple seconds breathers for the viewer in the form of meme. 7. Maintain quality while keeping it authentic and believable. 8. Have fun and keep a positive vibe.
As one of Mr. Beast’s main editors in 2019, I clicked on this with the perspective of ‘oh boy what’s this man gonna say...’ but all I could think leaving this video was, yep he’s right. I loved editing for him! You explain his style very well. As an editor I never even thought about it in this way. Great video.
Was very interested in Beast's comment in Casey's interview about how he purposely uses cameras that are "kind of bad", because he wants that homemade aesthetic. The audio is crisp and clear (they have a dedicated sound recordist on set) but the visuals are kept deliberately "UA-cam appropriate" for authenticity.
They need to get Hayden to do a masterclass for video editing. Man is a genius. He makes talking about everyday UA-cam videos sound so philosophical and scientific

I love these breakdowns. A lot of people don’t understand what really goes into a successful UA-cam video. I’d love to be able to learn more. I feel like the people who watch these videos and care are the few who really understand what it takes to understand the relationship of the audience and the creator and maintaining viewer retention. Solid breakdown. I’d love to somehow someday talk to hillier more about this and how I may be able to get into the space to help other creators perfect their craft in the UA-cam world.
Dream doesn't do any editing to keep retention except at the start where he explains the concept. instead, he hopes that the appeal of finding out who wins at the end will keep retention long enough to keep the algorithm pushing his video.
I’m totally fascinated by all this. I’ve now been sat glued to your UA-cam channel for the last 2hours getting more and more depressed about my own inability to edit well! I make extremely boring video’s to simply capture personal memories of holidays or events. But even at my very amateur level, I’ve learnt stuff to improve. One thing you’ve made me aware of, is how added sounds emphasise the action.. it’s almost subliminal, until you start looking for it! Thanks!

Really interesting video! One thing that I'm also curious about with Jimmy's editing decisions: his videos never seem to have much closure. After Chandler gets the island, there's about a minute of reactions to the outcomes, but I feel like there's an option for more action with Chandler's future plans for the island, exploration/celebration, etc that they chose not to take. On a different channel, this could have probably been enough content to make another video
