This easy orange marmalade might remind you of your grandmother (or great grandmother!) because it uses a time-old technique. You let it sit in a pot overnight. That's what makes it so easy.
No, seriously, that’s key! And honestly, the hardest part about this recipe. It’s so simple to make, makes a wonderful gift, and an even better breakfast! This recipe yields a thick, pleasingly bittersweet orange marmalade made with only natural ingredients: navel oranges, lemon, water, and sugar.
It's no wonder Paddington Bear loves marmalade!

I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant....I sent my husband out 4 days ago to get me orange marmalade because I was having such an intense and specific craving for it ... I find it so incredibly strange that not only did you post this recipe only days after...but that you mentioned how much you craved it when you were pregnant!!!!! How weird!???? I cannot wait to try this out ❤️
Go for it, Holly! Here’s the recipe, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/easy-orange-marmalade/ Enjoy!
When I was pregnant, I had an overwhelming desire for oranges. I would buy a bag on my way home from work and devour them. I would eat the orange and my dog ate the peals. I gave birth to a beautiful daughter. Today that baby girl is a lawyer. All that vitamin C dud her well
When my mom was pregnant with me she wouldn't let anyone near her oranges, it seems she is not the only one.
It took him 4 days to find marmalade ?!?
When you eat things your brain remembers where it got certain really important nutrients. Your brain subconsciously remembered orange contained vitamin C that you were most likely deficient on which turned it into a strong craving for you. The human body is absolutely incredible
My son has developed a fondness for orange marmalade. I am excited to make this recipe with him. I know he will enjoy the process. Thanks for a great recipe!

Take any plate, drop a drip of larmelade on it and hold it vertically. Marmelade is done if it sticks to plate forming a lign downwards.
Paddington Bear would be proud! ××

Thank you for the lovely video. I made this a couple of months, it was so easy and the best part is my husband loves it. He was stationed in the UK for four and a half years and said this reminded him of the wonderful marmalade he had when he was there. I tripled my batch and water bathed the jars so they will keep through the winter.
Thank you for sharing, Tamara. I’m delighted you got on well with my recipe.
Tamara Oster did you triple your recipe all at once, or make three separate recipes? I have made other jams and jellies that say to make only a single batch at a time. If tripling it works and is safe (I will be water bath processing mine with my students to sell in our school store), I am all about the triple! Thanks for taking the time to respond to this.
@@staceyscribner5655 I tripled the batch and had no problems with it. This is a wonderful and easy recipe - enjoy!
Never had any orange dessert but I have always wanted to and this looks lovely ❤️

Marmalade looks absolutely beautiful and delightful ❤
I’m glad you like it, Avni!
That's an interesting recipe, I've never heard of orange marmelade being made with whole fruit cut up, the version I know is made from the flesh of oranges and then just a little orange peel is added. My girlfriend makes orange marmelade and homemade nutella and then we put in on crepes togheter so they have a jaffa flavour 😁 I recommend this combination!
Yes, you can use the entire fruit in making orange marmalade. The lemon balances the flavor. I hope you’ll give this a go. Here’s the recipe, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/easy-orange-marmalade/
I was really looking for this after making your jam!
Yay! Thanks for watching, Daniyal.
😊 1:38 I made this delish marmalade. It is great! I did do the first simmer about an hour before adding my sugar. It set up good. I put in jars and water bath for 10mins. Great recipe!
Well done, you!
I had a ton of clementines left over after Christmas, so I'm trying this recipe with them. It's simmering now, and smells amazing!
Thanks for giving my recipe a go.
Recently been getting interested in making my own jams (and I love marmalade, goes good on a peanut butter sandwich!), this helped explain everything, so thank you :)

Thank you so much! I made this today and it is SO, SO good! I doubled the amount of oranges and lemons which doubled the time to evaporate and thicken, but didn’t double the sugar. It was spectacular - just a perfect balance between bitter and sweet. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wonderful, Irina! Thank you so much for your input and for sharing!
Interesting to know that you were able to reduce the sugar and the marmalade still set. I'll try it.
My orange tree was going crazy. So, I just made your orange marmalade. It is delicious!! This was my first time ever making any kind of jam/jelly/preserve. It was super easy. I had to simmer mine the following day a half hour to cook down the water. But, after I added sugar the 20 minutes was perfect .🍊😋

Hello from Boston USA Gemma! I'm going to try your simple marmalade recipe rather than buy store-bought. I've never made jams or jellies before. Great use of the oranges I had on hand. A nice addition to any hostess basket. I checked out several recipes yours look easy to follow. I like that you use the whole orange inside and out. The inside white part of the orange is very nutritious. A Dr. told my mother to eat it when she was pregnant. Thanks for sharing your recipes!
I hope you get on well with my recipe. It's been a best seller by far.
I love orange Marmalade! Every Christmas morning my late, great mother in law would crack the joke: “Oh! Look at the orange Marma laid!” As she set out the orange marmalade. Loved that woman.❤️

You are so sweet , I love your all recipes :)
Hello Gemma orange marmalade looks amazing. Hope you have an amazing weekend soon.
Thanks a million. Hope you have a grand one, too!
Not a fan of marmalade, but I have a lemon & an orange tree. I didn't even know that lemon can be put into marmalade. Plus I was under the impression that only the peels were used. I saved some peels to make marmalade, after checking with my neighbors to know that "they'd love some". If it turns out good I may just develop a taste for it, and next year I shall make more - I camopsted most of my orange peels this year. Made marmalade a very long time ago, so just checking to make sure I still remember the easy recipe. Yours is just like it - THANKS so v. much - Will try it with whole oranges next year toooo!!
The pectin in lemon helps it thicken. Lemon also balances the flavors.
@@GemmaStafford Geez now I know why mine didn't thicken as much, daah!? Thanks for the info. will add lemon to it, next time!! Made mine with the peels only, and will use more of the fruit to give it more flavor in future. UGoGirl - ShineON with my Best Wishes!!

Skeptical at first bec my oranges were thick-skinned and I was afraid all the white stuff will make the jam bitter. But I'm truly glad I tried your recipe! I liked the sweet taste with the hint of bitterness, I surprised myself. ❤ Awesome and easy. Thank you.
Well done! I'm delighted to hear that yours turned out well!
Hi Gemma. I had 2 Oranges and some lemons that needed to be used ASAP so they are now doing the 24 hour wait. It’s been 25 years since I have tried marmalade and I wasn’t a fan. 🤞🏻 my tastebuds have changed since then. You look glowing BTW 💕
I’m delighted to hear that, Kelley. I hope you like this. And thank you for the kind words.
Hi Gemma, I am in Pilar de la Horadada, Spain, here Oranges grow on the trees in the street, (most go to waste) am in rented accommodation so none of my own kit. I though I would give it a try, no sure of results yet as to the setting but taste good, easy to do, left 48 hours, then finished off this morning. Thanks great recipe, just wish I had my bottling funnel with me. Mike
That's fantastic, Mike! Well done, you. I'm delighted this turned out well for you.
I love marmalade, but I like the English type that uses Seville oranges. Gives marmalade a real bite to it.
Hello again! I've made your BBB Orange Marmalade several times and it is simply amazing every time. Pergect! So, who better to ask than you? Ha. Can I make Lemon Marmalade using the same ingredients amounts (but with lemons) with sugar & everything the same? I'm dying to try it using your recipe! Thanks. 👍👍Paul
I always thought you needed Seville oranges for marmalade. For the last two months marmalade seemed to have disappeared form the stores and I was craving it. I have a medical condition where I am on a low potassium diet and oranges are not allowed, but clementines are. So that's what I used, and i'm amazed by the result. Thank you a thousand times, next time I will replace one clementine with another lemon, because I really like a touch more bitterness.
Thank you so much for trying it out and for this glowing review, Rupa! I'm delighted you like this recipe! Well done!

I’d love to know where you got those cute little containers! I’m going to try this recipe soon, my mom loves marmalade !
Hi Rachel. I got the small jars from Amazon. Just search for Weck jars and you’ll find a selection in various sizes.
Yum! Orange marmalade does taste delicious. I didn't know that lemons could go into marmalade though. I saw a recipe that involves brie, puff pastry and orange marmalade. Although I don't have jam jars lying around.
Lemon helps the marmalade thicken, and it also balances the flavor. I hope you’ll give this a go. Get the recipe here, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/easy-orange-marmalade/ Enjoy!
Se ve deliciosa, no queda agria o amarga con toda la naranja completa la parte blanca de la naranja?
Hi Gemma: love your whole fruit recipes - no waste, easy and tasty! Will this recipe work with lemon only, with touch more sugar maybe?
That should work well! Do let me know how you get on!
@@GemmaStafford Thanks! Will do!
We consume yuja-cha in Korea, which translates to "yuja tea". It's just sliced yuja(a type of citrus fruit also known as yuzu in Japanese) tossed in equal parts sugar and/or honey and set aside to let the sweetener soak all the way through. The only difference is that you don't cook it and is therefore thinner; you just scoop a dollop of the sweetened yuja into your cup and pour hot water on top. Add it into sparkling water and it becomes yuja-ade.
My mom would always buy a huge commercial jar of yuja-cha and serve it to our guests when we were living abroad. The tea earned a few aficionados, one of whom was my violin tutor, who would even scoop out the yuja bits with his teaspoon and eat it all up! And funnily enough, some of my family friends would buy a jar and spread it on toast - just like marmalade. I always told them that's not the proper way to eat it (or rather, drink it) but now that I look back, whatever floats your boat.
That sounds interesting. Thank you for sharing.
The best, easiest recipe for marmalade I have ever found.
Glad you like it!
