But you have to consider that those cryptographic keys aren’t just used for Bitcoin. They are used for everything. So if they are cracked, we basically enter into an apocalyptic world. However… a more likely scenario is that a fix will be ready to go, and even if it is cracked before the fix is implemented, there will be thousands of snapshots of the blockchain prior to it getting cracked and they will be able to reboot the blockchain with the fix enabled. The point is… don’t worry about it. If SHA-256 is cracked, there will be a whole lot of problems besides bitcoin.
@@chingron Of course! But the instant fiscal damage to the tech industries will be limited as they can pause their services and update to a different encryption and use human level, P2P service. Whereas Bitcoin cannot without forking. It's too much of a potential insecurity for it to be the backbone of all financial services going forward.
