Jimmy is the xpulse of offroaders. It's a commuter to work during the week and a fun offroader for weekend.
Not meant for posing but for using

Jim is a friendly little thing. A happy toy. Like a favourite pet. I recently went to the hills in it. And being so narrow and small and that phenomenally go anywhere character, I was able to set a spanking pace all the way. No need to remain on the road. Just drop two wheels on to the verge and keep going. Honestly if one knows how to use it, one can go on and on at a steady pace without slackening speed and one can cover just as many kilometres in a reasonable manner, as any other car can in a day. It is also an important perspective to remember - in India, irrespective of whatever car one may drive, one cannot keep up an average speed of more than 50-70kms per hour. Because we always have the great equalisers to contend with - traffic, crowds, toll booths, etc.

Thar is less stressful on your bones & back for long distances. Front seat has lumbar support, never felt backpain in a Thar front seat even though felt queasy in a dzire, eon, wagonr, ertiga etc. Xcent was much better for distances though
Thar as envisioned by Behram Dhabar fits precisely for the job viz commuting long distances to 4x4 trails and arriving at trail without much distress
After reaching the trail, we change air pressure to 20 psi, change to MT tyres if possible, add a winch and take a tow hook and some tools you are all set to go

I own a jimny. I would recommend it to people who are purchasing it for a lifestyle purpose or who is a crazy enthusiast.
There is a clear lack if power especially on road. It's a four person vehicle. For tall people back seats are not gonna be the best. And yes no storage.
Despite all this I love the vehicle. On road initially I was not able to ride it well in terms of acceleration (handling was good always). I have an automatic, the way the power gets delivered and all was but confusing at beginning. But after almost an year now it is very fun to drive due to it's size. Am not saying you can go very fast. But if you keep rpm around 2000 and drive around like in 70-90 kmph. It's just fun. You get a flow.
Now the off-road is where it shines the best. Being first time taking it off-road I was intimidated how I was gonna do it. Oh boy did the Jimny just made it that much easy. Especially with the automatic. Also the trails in the place where I went they use old jeeps. Which have similar width as jimny. So I was really able to go through the trails easily. This was one factor which I felt jimny was better than thar. New thar is so wide that they are scraping at edges, destroying the trails. We have very narrow trails in paddy fields where autos go through. Jimny can easily travel through that. But I doubt thaar can do the same.
Comparing to thar only because people compare these 2. Not trying to say Jimny is better. Just one aspect which I think jimny is better in. Same makes it less convenient (lack of storage , space)

I was waiting for Jimny for a very long time. We have a 1997 Gypsy and it was the first vehicle in our family, we still have it and it runs fine. That 1.3L carburetted engine barely makes 40bhp, dunno how many horses reach the wheels but it's slow and fun to drive and reaching a speed of 60kph feel scary and like an achievement.
When I took the Jimny for a test drive I was disappointed. I loved the looks and the offroading capability but it didn't feel like a 25 year more advanced vehicle. The instrument cluster looks basically the same, and the lack of cupholders and bottle holders at the front really didn't sit well with me. I'm used to eating chips and having a cold drink while driving. I keep one hand on the steering and my left hand is busy stuffing my mouth with treats. There's no way to do that in Jimny. I can live without the armrest.
The other good thing about Gypsy is that how easy it is to take off the roof, the rear door and the windshield. One day you can drive it in the rain without getting wet and the next you can enjoy the wind and the sun by taking down the front windshield and the rear roof and the tailgate, although that takes some effort and time.
I guess that feature needed to go because of safety laws. But they could've included a few creature comforts.
And the final dealbreaker was the performance. The 105bhp engine lacks punch. It's a lot faster than the Gypsy but for a vehicle that's 25years more advanced I was expecting a bit more.
I have mixed feelings about the Jimny. It's too close to the Gypsy but it should have been a lot better for the price.

I’ve driven almost all the cars in this segment, and I truly enjoyed the way the Jimny drives. It feels like a well-engineered vehicle with solid on-road and off-road capabilities, especially suited for our highly unpredictable road conditions. However, the pricing could have been more competitive, paying ₹18 lakh doesn’t feel like good value for money. Given that it’s a sub-4-meter compact SUV, comparable in size to the Nexon, Venue, and XUV300 but with superior off-road credentials, its price should have been slightly higher than these models, rather than being compared to much heavier 1,800 kg SUVs(Thar), which isn’t a fair comparison.

The biggest blunder made by Suzuki is not by launching Jimny 3 door india, there are lot of young crowd and cross country enthusiast who would like to have a compact Jimny in three doors, when Royal Enfield could launch a single seater bike, why can't Suzuki have the 3 door Jimny in India, price it at Rs.12 lakhs
all inclusive on Road price for three door Alpha AT , just see the demand it creates

But in northern India (Kasauli, Manali, Mandi, Uttarkashi even at Rishikesh) I hardly seen a thar at the mountains be it any mountains it’s not there.
