The version of this tune on You Can't Do That On Stage Anymoe Vol 2 is even better, the guitar solo is so freaking awesome! Arrangement overall is different in places but the same line up.

Cool! I love the way you react! Have you heard "The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution" from the album "Sleep Dirt"? It was the audition jam for the bass player. Just Frank on his 12 string and electric, Terry Bozzio on drums and Patrick O'Hearn on double bass and electric bass. Lots of overdubs. 1975. Maybe my favorite track ever.

Actually, FZ never released the "STUDIO TAN and the "SLEEP DIRT" albums. They were originally part of the "LEATHER" album released by Frank. You can look up the details.
From what I understand warner Bros split up the album lather(leather) that frank intended to release and put out studio tan and it's companion sleep dirt. I believe Frank was very unhappy about it. Thanks for giving me a day to look forward to every week!
Frank: "They say I owe them four more albums ... I got more than four. And they know that. If Warners keeps fucking around like this they're gonna get a little present when I get home." Expecting delivery of one album at a time, Warner received a four album (one a double, so five) "little present" all at once. Frank: "According to the contract, upon receipt of the tapes, they have to pay me. They received the tapes and they did not pay me." They then released the albums with (purposefully?) ugly covers sans publishing info and playing credits. Since his contract had allegedly been breached, Zappa took his copy tapes of the four albums, added some new material, subtracted some old, and prepared a four-record set called "Lather", but pronounced "Leather". Recorded over a three-year period with non-static personnel from later Zappa line-ups, "Lather" is nothing so much as a definitive overview of every mode the man ever tampered with, utilising new recordings and with few exceptions - notably a scorching instrumental version of "Duke Of Prunes" - all new material. If your interest in Zappa goes beyond mere frivolous acquaintance, it's essential. - New Musical Express According to Frank, there was to be a single disc version (sans the "orchestra stuff") for those who couldn't afford the box. Some differing versions of Sleep Dirt and Studio Tan songs.
You didn’t get to live in the same world as FZ, but you do get to live in the same world as Dweezil Zappa. Go see one of his shows next chance you get. He spent like 5 years learning his dad’s catalogue and has been fronting Zappa Plays Zappa for the past 15 or so years. Good reaction. Yes, this album is underappreciated by many (including me). Frank didn't want the music presented in this way. It and "Sleep Dirt" were put out by Warner Bros. so Frank could get out of his contract, so there wasn't much thought or promotion to their releases as with others. Others have suggested things from "Sleep Dirt". I happen to like "Regyptian Strut" and "The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution" from "Sleep Dirt". Also as I have mentioned on other reactions and someone mentioned below: G-Spot Tornado with Frank conducting an excellent European group is wonderful and it has some visual allure with a pair of modern dancers. It died not too long after this performance. ua-cam.com/video/AyitnY3Rt9c/v-deo.html

Studio Tan is one of those albums that keeps growing after each listening because the complexity makes you find new things all the time. You asked for more song and probably ”Greggery Peccary” will be the number one recommendation, BUT don’t forget Frank’s intended ”smash hit” ”Lemme Take You To The Beach”! And the fourth ”Revised Music…” makes this album my favorite album by the great man. Great reaction, I’m really happy that you like this more complex side of his music!
Dude I so dig his more complex stuff... I haven't heard anything like it. Kinda nuts. I prided myself in my musical taste and then I listen to him and I feel like I discovered an entire new universe. Kinda daunting at points but the music makes it so worth it. I will write all of those down, thanks bro 🙏
The entire album that this comes from is actually a hodge podge. Only two tracks are from the band that plays this, recorded in 1974, with another track from 1969 (with overdubs in 1976) and another from 1975. So, this track isn't really indicative of the entire album. That said, all of the tracks on this album are on the four record (2 CD) set titled Läther.
@@L33Reacts The Läther album is wicked complicated. It went like this: Frank presented a double album, Zappa In New York, and it included the track Punky's Whips (which you may have already reacted to), but Warner Bros. cut that track out as well as edited out references to Punky Meadows (lead guitar player from Angel) from the song Titties 'n' Beer. Frank found that to be a breach of his contract so, pissed off with the label, he owed them three more albums on his contract and brought them the tapes for three albums all at once soon after and expected to be paid for them upon delivery. Giving them all three albums and getting out of his contract asap was his plan. They didn't pay him for the tapes, as well as for Zappa In New York, (60K each, so they owed him $240K) so he felt that the breach of contract allowed him to shop the music elsewhere for release. He took the music from those four albums, cut some tracks out, added more and made the whole monstrosity into a four-record set titled Läther. Frank made a deal with Mercury/Phonogram and they went as far as cutting test pressings of the albums. Warner Bros. threatened to sue, saying that Frank was still under contract with them, so they backed out of releasing it. Pissed off even further, and giving a big middle finger to WB, Frank took his test pressings of Läther to radio station KROQ in LA, which had means to air nationally through sister stations, he played the entire thing, asking his fans to tape the music right off the air for free and to not buy the albums as they would eventually come out on WB. The albums that made up Läther include Studio Tan, from whence RDNZL came. Läther was never released as intended in Frank's lifetime. It was finally released in 1996. Bootleg copies, likely sourced from the test pressings, were made. I bought one in 1983 for $40. Today they sell for around $400. To the aforementioned Zappa In New York: Some uncensored copies were released in 1977, including Punky's Whips, before WB recalled all of the albums, edited it and released it in 1978. Most of those rare records went to England and maybe other European countries. They can be found for sale online now and then, running in the range of $400. One such specimen was available just two weeks ago and I almost pulled the trigger on buying it but didn't want to fork over that much money. I wish I did. It's really rare. Maybe next time...

To the aforementioned Zappa In New York:
Some uncensored copies were released in 1977, including Punky's Whips, before WB recalled all of the albums, edited it and released it in 1978.

The title is pronounced 'redunzle'
One of Frank's greatest instrumentals. However, I personally find the version on The Lost Episodes to be vastly superior to this one.
I'll have to check it out. Thank you for the suggestion!
If your band doesn't have a xylophone in it, it's complete and utter rubbish mate!
Absolute trash if you don't have it! 😆😆😆
I guess BIR's been listening to too much 1980 tour stuff!
