- I shot the Whirlpool Galaxy at 4 different focal lengths using 4 lenses, and combined them to zoom in 23 million light-years! This was the most involved astrophotography project I've done, but it was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to making more photos/videos like this. Stick around and subscribe for more space and astrophotography-related content, including tutorials, tips, and stories behind images I've taken. Keep your head up, clear skies are on the way.

Haha 😂 hopefully it was encouraging! Thanks for watching!
Well produced, love the humour and wit. And most of all... giving the credit where it is due. I love visual Astronomy and APhotography for the perspective change also. Taking or making the opportunity to see and connect with something bigger than ourselves. Well done!
Thank you for the very kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed!
Amazing project and great video.
Thank you so much!!
Great video and thanks for finally acknowledging Ymir`s creation...
I'm glad you liked the video! I love astrophotography because I'm reminded of God's handiwork every time I'm out imaging!
I was drinking water and nearly made a rainbow in the room at the mayonnaise joke. Great vid! 👍
😂 I’m glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching!!
Fantastic. Thank you. Really enjoyed the perspective on what each component can achieve.
Thank you!! And thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing this. If possible please share more about your process.....a making of if you will :-)
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it! Yes, I'm hoping to start a series soon where I go over astrophotography concepts and advice to explain the how/why behind the processes I use. Thank you again for your support!
Just stumbled on your channel. Awesome great and funny. Thanks for the share. You gained a new subscriber. 👍🏻✌🏻🇨🇦
I'm glad you liked it, thank you so much for the sub!
Great effort on the whole video and I also liked how the pictures zoomed in. Thumbs up and sub #151 !!!

Please more videos. I’m glad I found this 😁👌🔭📸
I'm glad you enjoyed this! I'm working on the next few ones!
Awesome !
Thank you for giving it a watch and for the support!
I enjoyed your video - thanks very much. I particularly liked the final sequence, stitching together the views from the different focal lengths. Was there a particular software program that you used?
Keep up the excellent videos!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Yes, I used Adobe After Effects. I'm working on a few other videos right now, but I think when those are done, I'll circle back and do a tutorial on how to stitch them together so others can give it a go. Thanks again for your support!
Oh my bad you did! Ahaaa great work! Moab Utah is a great place to shoot the stars🤙🏽
Maybe I'll have to check it out sometime!
Wow🤩
Thank you for watching!
loved your content pleaseeee make more
Wow, it's so encouraging reading comments like this, thank you! Yes, I'm working on a few projects right now!
@@theheavensdeclareastro alright cant wait
It looks beautiful. Using a 70/700 mm refractor in a 300.000 people city I simply couldn’t see the Whirlpool Galaxy :(
Aw, yeah light pollution has some pretty sad effects on our ability to see the night sky. Hopefully you can get to darker skies someday and see it! Thank you for watching!
"upside-down" image of Andromeda ;_; it hurts. Awesome project👌. Waiting for clear skies to try this out.
Thanks!! And yeah, lol, I'm not sure why but I like framing M31 that way. I think the depth in the image feels different to me.
Buddy , you are the best, please continue making it, I reckon I could donate for special content like this, you encourage me to don’t give up with this wonderful hobby
Wow, thank you so much!! That really means a lot to hear, and I’m so glad my content is encouraging-to me, that’s what it’s all about! Thank you again!
Nice one! Please do a guide on how to do all that woth a scope that you have.
Thank you! And thank you for the feedback! Yes, I was thinking about doing a tutorial at some point for a small apo refractor, DSLR, and equatorial mount setup. I’ve got a few videos I’m planning on doing, but I may add that to the list. Thanks again for watching!
God creation! I never took it from that perspective. Good video by the way.
Yeah, I love so much about space for that reason! And thank you!
Fun video... I'm curious what part of it represents the 360mm focal length? (I'm planning to try it with my 400mm lens soon.)
Thank you for watching! Definitely go for it! If you watch the UA-cam short I made for the video, that will give you an idea of what setup I used for each field of view. It’s definitely a small object, but I was happy with my photo. Having longer, tracked exposures and darker skies also really helped me reveal detail in the spiral structure. Hope that helps!
Thank you this video show me how much of a dicipline is require to do these things.
I started with a budget telescope and i would definitely love to upgrade to something more professional even if it takes me years to learn how to use it.
Can you tell me how whats the model of your telescope so i can get in the right track? Thanks again
Thank you for watching! I’m glad to hear you are getting into astrophotography! For this video I used a few different setups-I used a small apochromatic refractor (William Optics Z61) and a 10” Meade SCT. If you’re getting into astrophotography you’ll want to make sure you have an appropriate tracking mount to put your scope on-in some ways, that’s just as important if not more, than the scope you get. The tracking mount will let you take long exposures because it will compensate for the rotation of the earth. As far as scopes, I would recommend a small refractor to start out with. Refractors are much easier to work with when getting into astrophotography and are more forgiving in several ways than large, reflecting telescopes that use mirrors. They are also much lighter and you can use them with a smaller mount or even star tracker. I would recommend something like Aperture 60, Zenithstar 61, or Sharpstar 61. Hope that helps!
I was hoping to see the results for the 4 different lenses.
Thank you for watching! I stitched them together at the very end, but if you want something a little more delineated you can watch the YT short I made on it! There I show each setup in the bottom corner as I transition from each photo.
This is a great video. Except I do not remember see all four pictures of M101 at the end with all 4 cameras?
Good humor here too. I wish I could do humor. The editing for this is extensive. I know you spent a lot of time on that.
Thanks so much, I appreciate the support! I actually blended all four images together into the final zoom shot.
Here are the timestamps for the closeup on each photo:
- 03:42 for 14mm (by far the hardest to make out M51, but it's there I promise lol)
- 03:50 for 50mm
- 03:57 for 360mm
- 04:03 for 1575mm
@@theheavensdeclareastro how did I miss that lol
Love the excitment but just tell us how to find it
thanks
Thanks for watching! It’s not far from the handle of Ursa Major (the star is named Alkaid. Hope that helps!
That is a lot of work
It was, but it was totally worth it and I'd do it again! (maybe I will lol)
Subscribed when I heard you say "God's creation". I'm a new astronomer and the night sky is a way for me to reassure myself that there is a God. Thank you for your content.
Welcome to astronomy and thank you for subbing!! Yes, I too am always reminded of God and encouraged of His faithfulness when I see the night sky. A great constant reminder.
Rofl @ dermatologists hate him!
🤣😂 thanks for watching!
This guy is hilar 😂
