at a non HBCU college, everyone gets up and gets refreshments and goes to the restroom during the halftime show. At an HBCU, you go to the restroom and get refreshments during the game and make sure to be back for the half time show.

The performers/ dancers should rethink those routines both females and males. That is horrible. Absolutely horrible. That is not what I call dancing. It tells no story, no artistry, no depth, no originality. Dance is respectable. In all fairness other universities have the same low bar too. If they put their mind to it, they can do so much better than those suggestive routines.

Thank you so much for being interested in our culture! Yes those are college students. You can get college scholarships/money for marching band. Most have been in marching bands since at least freshman year of high school. They perform at halftime shows, parades, compete for money/prizes/bragging rights for their school program at competitions like battle of the bands and so much more. Takes lots of time, practice and dedication.

Reminds me of my time in band. I used to love performing. It was so electric. You do all this practice and go over everything over and over until its drilled into your skull, and the lights go up, and it's show time. The best was hitting that last beat when every single person in the band simultaneously knew we all killed it, and we'd still have to be professional up until we got off the field or behind the stage or left the event, and then we'd just lose it screaming and cheering.

So while you’re admiring everything, Idk how I feel about it. So much the world doesn’t know about Us. So much of Our Story has yet to be told and corrected. We’re more than just a college band. I have learned that kind words are one of the greatest gifts to give someone. I think people have forgotten that in our current lifestyle. Everyone is busy with so much and some may just be shy. But, taking the few seconds to speak a kind word can be so special. I learned that from an interaction with a stranger. I was literally stunned when a stranger ran after me in tears saying that my words had changed her life. The words were true but to me they were just a nice thing to say. I was not prepared for the huge positive and life changing impact that they had on that woman on that day. The interaction changed my life as well as hers. Kind words are true gifts and they only cost a few seconds of time.

When you asked how they keep, they are counting in their heads by the count time, and how they do it is by lots of practice and memorization. 💛 👍🏽Thank you for giving this a watch and appreciation for the enormous dedication in takes to give a performance like this. It’s inconceivable that to the worst of us 🇺🇸, this performance is brought to you by people who, as a race are considered to be vulgar, lazy and unintelligent, but if this show was put on a world stage in competition with other nations there would be flag waving, and patriotic chants of, “U-S-A, U-S-A!” “We’re” sending out our best and most talented 🙃 Look how “we” dominate and drive culture around the world.
I know this type of sentiment is not just exclusive to the United States. Watching the way many French citizens reacted to Aya Nakamura during the Olympics, made that crystal clear. It’s always sad to watch our talent and presentation be lifted up but still be generally dismissed as a whole as people in society.

It’s fun being apart of a band family. Yes hard work yet fun. Majorette and dancer Claflin College now University. Nothing like a band especially when they preform old school music. Love all my bands. HBCU ❤

The HBCU bands are incredible. College marching bands overall have a long history in the US, with BIG Ten founding school, Purdue, the first to break ranks (earlier marched in more military formations) and create a formation (in 1906, the Block P), many started to chair step and other formations to create more entertaining shows. They make college football have much more pageantry than pros, part of why college football has exponentially more fans at games, biggest stadiums and fierce loyalties.

You’re saying college. It is actually Uni. In the States, college and university are interchangeable unlike in the UK. So I understand your confusion. Our upper high school grades 11 & 12 are what you consider college. Usually 17 and 18 year olds.

They do alot of practices, they have 8 counts for the steps they take, and the moves they make. The drum major and Band director help with memory as well. Hope this helps ❤

Muscle memory, snap and drive playing counting in your head. If I tried to look at the lines I would mess up. Knowing your sheet music will help you a lot. If you don’t know that music your body naturally will stop.

I can proudly say that my daddy is from Jackson. Mississippi, they may not be the richest state. But what Hbcu's have given black people and people try to copy, they can't? I was actually in England I grew up there for a bit of time, and I knew how to step because my dad was it drillmaster, and he taught me how to step. You haven't seen nothing. Watch a major red battle that is amazing as well. I'm a southern, I know, but tell Texas, Mississippi, represented right here
