@@rhys4998 i wouldnt say i knew him but we spoke a few times online. Can someone in the UK tell me where the accent of the man in the blue flannel (first ten second) is from? I notice he really enunciates the “r” at the end of words when most of the UK doesn’t.
Great observation. West Country accents in England are traditionally rhotic, i.e. they pronounce Rs after vowels unlike the prestige English accent RP and the majority of other English regional accents which are non-rhotic. Rhoticity has been in retreat across England for decades, centuries actually. This Country is set somewhere around Gloucestershire/Wiltshire/Somerset (filmed in Northleach) and most younger people in that part of the country are firmly non-rhotic these days. It would make sense that the oldest of these three is more likely to be rhotic. I'm not great at pinning down exactly where each speaker sounds like they're from but Charlie Cooper who plays Kurtan grew up in Cirencester in Gloucestershire and sounds about right for that area. Where I live in Devon many older rural people are rhotic and are a minority now, but a lot of non-rhotic speakers have some vestigial effect like a diphthong in words like "for" rather than a simple vowel as in RP or pronouncing the R as they would traditionally.
How fuckin' accurate this is. In fact reality is much worse. I worked on a building site for a while as a helper when I was 18. Me and few other boys. Those days will still haunt me. They bullied us, overworked us, made it as hard as possible etc. Maybe it was just a bad gang. This is still not bad compared to what I've seen. Ive seen a boy who was scared of heights being forced to walk with a wheelbarrow over a narrow board in 10m height while the experienced workers were watching and laughing.
I worked as an electrician’s apprentice between school and college - worked on sites and saw some things, luckily i was working for my mates dad who looked out for me so never had much trouble, he also told me all the wind ups and what to loom out for. But other lads got treated like cr@p - proper bullying, usually by the labourers who had the next worst jobs. It made me go back to college and study - good money if you can stick it out and are physically strong, not for me though. Sadly the lads who got treated worst were the ones who had to stick at it as they didn’t have many options
