- Would you kick it? This is Al Hackel's 1700cc "Hackel-Wright" chopper, built around a single jug off a 16,000cc Wright R975-46 9-cylinder radial helicopter engine -- one of the ultimate version of the famed Whirlwind radials that powered everything from the Ford Trimotor to the Sherman tank!

A small rear guard between seat and tyre would be a smart option 😎
Right? Sometimes custom is just stupid.
So would brakes and tires with a profile to go around corners.
Or just pour bourbon on it and get a little buzz while crusing
this thing is just a dozen forms of d34th
Yea, that tire catches your azz and it’s going to pull your groin in and do bad things to your manhood
Personally, I'd not have my unprotected rear end hanging over a fast moving tyre, just in case the fast revolving tyre decided to instantly remove my man-bits. Ouch !!
😅
Style>safety
No worries, it probably just goes to and from the trailer....
Literally "ripped yourself a new asshole"
Yep looks good n dangerous
All the kids who had streaks up their backs as bike riding kids build these things as adults
I don't think he rides it in the rain.
very cool...but 1700cc single? wow! if the timing aint right, it will send you to the moon!
Indeed!
It'd be a stylish way to break a leg at the very least! 😂
The name of this bike is the castrater. No fender, no guard, one mistake, no nuts!
Then it's a Jackie Gleason thumper.

"To the moon Alice!"
Nice build. The chassis and tin work took skill but that engine! Getting an aircraft cylinder married to transmission, fuel, electrical etc..impressive 🍻🇺🇸
It's a garage queen. Looks good but sure not an every day ride.
Obviously??? It’s a 1700cc single cylinder!
No it's a swiss army knife......
@@Burley_Bert I’d say it’s a dual sport!
Great looking bike
I love the sound of a thumper.
There is no way at my age and arthritic, worn out body could I manage one of these. My road king is fuel injected with electric start. At least I’m riding
RKC rider myself. I love my bike. I've ridden her all over the map. I
@@dnbsoldier7259 well done. I love my Road King. Did you get risers? I’m contemplating rising mine 8”or 10” I think that’s as tall as the bars can be raised without messing with cables. I’m 6’ 4 so I’m thinking it would help keep my posture up.
Very cool- awesome to see it run. Congratulations on a job well done.
My old mans hog kick started me over the windshield when I was 14
Those are some serious mechanical whizzes to put that thing together.
Couple of blips of the throttle was and is expected...😢
Incredible fabrication.
Something about an old chopped thumper just fukin rules 🤘
Very cool build! Old schoolers kicked everything, TM400's, CR RM and KX 500's YZ490's and of course.. Big V- Twins like HD's. My 70 XLCH has no provision for E start.
Yes sir! I own a KX 500 and a 68 XLCH
THAT,, is a serious custom bike builder. He aint playin.
Very cool, now ride it ! ❤
HFS! That is a gorgeous build... and an impressive kick!
What is it, a single jug from an aircraft engine ???
That's exactly what it is!
@@BikeBound it would be fun to cruise around on !!! Lots of locktite !!!
@@arthurgay5746 lol, fun is not the word that comes to my mind if I think about riding this.
epic build
Good looking bike
why trouble starter so hard make leg sore all the time why stupid ideal ?
always liked to watch the older Harley riders do the manual kick start routine, I have seen the kicker get thrown over the bars !
That’s when you know they’re doing it wrong.
Sounds SO good.
That’s going to end in tears.
Now THAT is a thumper! I learned to ride on my buddy's BSA 441 dirt bike and it was terrifying enough, this machine is a beast!
Same here dude! the 441 was a beast to kick start
Sounds nice!
The arch of my foot is killing me just from watching this.
Ikr Lol.
As the cylinder came from a helicopter engine the bike does not need any brakes!
SISKEL and EBERT give it two thumbs up 👍👍
That's really cool and all, but where the hell are your brakes, man???
my dad and his 3 bros had a after hours m\c shop,in indian country, springfield, mass 1930-50's......mostly h-d's and indians.....uncle joe ,aka johnsie, had the magic foot....when they couldn't get a bike to start,he was called......with much success......we don't need no friggen electric start.......rip you guys.....hope you're riding in the clouds.....
1 trick for starting a thumper is to rock it back and forth in gear to prime the cylinder before you kick it.
Compression Release?
If the timing is on point then no issues😊
Beautiful
hardcore no brakes...
Lol that mf sounds like those old vietnam era Mule helicopters coming in a fast descent for landing.
I had a 1957 FLH for 40 years. Never had an electric start.
damn that is a cool bike.
my knee feels this.
1700 ccm ... monocilindrico... da avviare deve un osso duro ...troppo forte❤❤❤
Un saluto dal nord della Sardegna.
Looks like a nut toaster if I ever saw one! 😆 Nice ride.
I'd be using my right leg.
Mad fella in England is just finishing a 2700 cc single cylinder. The top end is from a Bristol centaurs sleeve valve aircraft engine.funny thing is he's having problems with the starting motor...... can't think why 🤔🇬🇧🇺🇲
I get get scared of my Cr500 when it's in a bad mood! Jeeeeeez
Exhaust needed to go out the front!
Geometry's great!!🤘😁👍🏻
just because you can doesn't mean you should
С этим мотоциклом можно людей в космос запускать.
A "Riding a 1700 cc single" sequel anywhere, huh?
this thing is just a dozen forms of d34th
It even has a butt polisher if you slip off the seat. Where's the rear fender. His wife or girlfriend says what happened to you his answer is we won't talk about that now I'm in too much pain.
I had a Suzuki d r 650 kick back I landed in the street 1700 you will pass the moon😂
That would break my knee.
What are the plans for future bikes? btw that sounds great and i would like to ride it.
I’m curious how many legs this thing has broken
Cool
now trying to reverse 😁
I would recommend boots. My foot still hurts from kick starting my 250cc dirtbike i haven’t gotten on in 15 years.
Revs nearly as quickly as a 500 c.c. thumper, and note the lack of vibration in the front tire.
Gotta find top dead center
Well that would do you no good, it fires 19 degrees before TDC
*Before top dead center.
This reminds me to put a new starter in my honda civic
I can see some ass burn from that rear tyre 😮
A good motocross boots would be prudent, when kicking such a beast.
Goodbye ankle
This is true
Put it on the dyno yet?
Iron horse,👍
She's a beauty. 😎👍
I’m just wondering what happens if you accelerate very hard and flip off the back of the saddle and onto that tire😱
arent these the things everyones riding thats catching fire
WOW how far do you get on a pair of pants ???
Why no electric starter in 2024 ?
That thing sounds like a helicopter for real
I imagine you can here the F-Bomb a mile away, if he stalls it.
ONE 1,700 cc cylinder?
Yo was this dyno'd? What's the torque sayin? Sheeesh
Shit man didn’t know they did singles that big!
Well... they don't. It's a custom engine based on one cylinder of a radial engine used in aircraft, helicopters and Tanks.
A bike is build for driving. If it cant start or fixed to the ground, it is a bit sensless, or not?
Yes it makes put put. Great!?
and we thought the 441 Victor was bad.
Old rule, if you can't kick it, you can't ride it
amp refrigerator waiting for you
She does 20 feet per power stroke?
My advise if any care ? Mechanical compression releases and ether ! My drift truck all wheel on Proxy’s runs on nitro methane but starts on race gas ! Like making a camp fire there’s steps !
Yeah, take a seat on the rear tire
You know, when you said, lets leave off the electric start......
manual timing advance could be a fix
Looks cool. But it’s a death trap.
Kinda like an old Nintendo, gotta blow on the cartridge before playing.
A BSA Gold Star on steroids.
Widowmaker
You start it and I'll ride it
Frame looks like it would handle a triumph 2 cylinder
The guy sitting on the seat needs a weebit of a rear fender
Certainly is a nice looking bike
I call it the ass eraser
Torque????
Love all the comments referring to safety and calling this a "garage queen" 😂 uh... yeah?
obviously not a daily rider but that's the whole point of the custom world, and with that said, I'll bet she gets ridden, very few custom builders pour that amount of hard work and love into something that they're just gonna sit and stare at in the end, these things get ridden and they get ridden hard, remember that next time you pull your 15 grand bmw out of the garage for the first time in 9 months...
1:46 We went from the amazing 1966 Yamaha Twin Jet 100( YL-1 , two cylinders of 97 total cc capacity) , which could be started by rapidly pushing down with the palm of your hand on the kickstart lever, to this ridiculous 1700 cc single cylinder monstrosity. Technology in reverse, if you ask me. Get a front brake on this thing, because it provides up to 70 per cent of the stopping power. One rear brake is grossly insufficient, don't you value your life any?
Man, you are lame😂 have you never heard of something being built just because it’s cool or as a piece of art. Do you really think this thing is reliable enough that it needs a front brake. Also hang around real chopper guys and see how many front brakes you see and those guys do cross country trips like that. I don’t understand the point of taking the time to write a paragraph shitting on something you could never make even if you had the tools. Go back to listening to your cover music playlist gub gub snail brain
I’ve got Yamaha XT & SR 500’s.
They give you a good belting if you don’t have the knack or your girlie with the kickstarter.
I’d love a YL1 twin jet though.
Is this just for show? No fenders and brakes with hardened saddle and a huge bore that kickstart is a buzz kill.
A lot of this sort of people are like that - you look at them and go like oh maybe George Washington was confused… 😮
You’d need it in 8th gear to bump start it 😂
Looks like one slip, and that rear tire would rip your ass off.
