In our lab we took readings when half circle is bright and half circle is dark, not when both are in equal intensities. And we get the really good results. Are both ways correct?
sir this veideo was really helpful but sir plz explain the things more elaboratly. like i was not very clear about how you have find the the least count
sir , agar hum different coccentration of sugar solutions ke liye readings mote karege jaise app bata rahe the , toh phir specific rotation kaise nikalege kyuki phir mass of sugar and volume different ho jaygega, pls reply sir.
To get the maximum brightness in polarimeter device, angles or rotation is made after 180 following a particular rotation either it is clockwise or anticlockwise. Reading at or below 180 does not give clear observation of maximum or minimum brightness. So to get these rotation 180 degree is used.......Hope this will give you some clarification. To get more understanding read about transverse nature of light and how we can prove it based in analyser and polarizer, thereafter apply this in case of polarimeter.
Sir this polarimeter is very useful as the scale and vernier is infront and much bigger for accurate view. But in our laboratory the polarimeter we use that have 2 lenses, one for the yellow light another for the scale which we have to look through lens and set the vernier which is very much painful for eyes😢😢😢.
Because of air bubble, Light will not pass properly through out the solution for the full length of Polarimeter tube.....then readings will be distracted.
Standard value is +66.5⁰ cm³/g-dm for cane sugar solution. It means that it is capable of rotating the plane polarized light in the clockwise direction. Commercially, dextrose is available and obtainable through the inversion of cane sugar.

The first plate is known as the polarizer. The beam is then rotated as it passes through the sample. After passing through the sample, a second polarizer, known as the analyzer is rotated such that all the light can pass through then one can find the angle of rotation which is equal to the angle by which the analyser was rotated.
For this need to study mechanism of half shade device...actually its reason in related by em vibration of light as coming from lamp... when two nicol prism cross each other...dark spot is found.. only electric vibration will play role here..

Sir I have a doubt ki kai baar jaise normal water jab lete hain tab to readings le ki par jab jaise 20% solution banaya usko filter karne ke baad bhi koi ring show Nhi hoti uska kya reason hai?
Sir I mean to say I have performed this experiment and there was an error when I took the readings for 20% sugar solution basically no light was visible what could be the reason for that
@@sahibpreetkaur7917 Theoretically light should come after rotating the analyzer for some angle......In your case may be air bubble would have come on the path of light.
Compounds which rotate the plane of polarization of a beam of plane polarized light clockwise are said to be dextrorotary, and correspond with positive specific rotation values, while compounds which rotate the plane of polarization of plane polarized light counterclockwise are said to be levorotary.
Consider only 2 positions......Clockwise direction mein analyzer ko move karne par ek position milegi aur fir approx 180 degree ke difference par doosri position milegi.

Sir can we use a mercury lamp as light source in manual polarimeter
If you use mercury lamp then you have to use bi-quartz polarimeter.

Because sugar is an optically active substance and distilled water has no any other substances to intrupt.
