- Becoming a mermaid? Water fairy? Mutant fish person?
Then this tutorial is for YOU! How to make your own webbed hands
LATEX-FREE ALTERNATIVES
If you have a latex allergy:
- You can buy a plastic or vinyl bald cap and cut up the necessary pieces for between the fingers
- You can buy the liquid directly and use it the same way. Products like Baldiez, Super Baldiez, Water-Melon are all used to create latex free bald caps
This is more of a one time use style webbed hand but you could always make multiples at a time if you were using it for a convention weekend or something, and if you are painting your hand, the inside of the hand would actually blend pretty well and not be as noticeable :D
This is in prep to one of the tutorials I am most excited for!
You will see that one later tonight so get ready!
Love you guys! Hope this can help some of you out and if you give it a try please tag me in your pics so I can see your amazing work!

Holy cow!!! That is so cool and pretty! Well done well done! :D beautiful color choices too!
this is so good, I tried it and it's amazing! so fun, thanks for sharing!
I have a college competition coming up in February which I'm already planning for and this tutorial has helped loads I thought it was going to be more difficult. Thank you
That's such a cool technique, very ingenious.
this was a lot easier than I thought it would be!
So amazing! im being and angler fish and this will be very useful!
It looks so cool! I wonder if it would actually work when you're swimming 🐋
Well pros-aide and the alcohol paints would be water proof, but if in regards to helping you swim.....I doubt it XD Haha
Sorry but no
This would have no efect on your swiming if anything it might get in the way but it wouldnt help with swiming
I have actual webbed fingers up to almost my first knuckle, and it makes me swim faster. Then again, that's my actual hand.
@@smores_graham I hate when people come in the comments and try to sound smart you haven't even tried it and talking crap it does work i bought one of these and it works so shut up
freaking awesome!!
Great job! 💙
very very cool!! i wonder if it'd be possible to stick the latex webbing on a glove for a reusable prosthetic/to allow you to get the latex in between your fingers rather than as a layer under them?? would really like to experiment with this! either way though, it's such an easy to way to get lovely results that remaking them every time you want to use them wouldn't be a big deal i think, haha
beautiful results, thank you so much for sharing this!!
You could probably use latex gloves with the finger tips it out to make a reusable set.
Saving for my monkfish cosplay
Totally cool
So cool :D
Could you use regular cosmetic latex on the edges on the inside of the palm to help blend???
DUDDEEE THIS IS AMAZEEE!!! I am def gonna be doing this sometime soon! So dope
Now I just want to make ALL THE MERMAID makeups! Lol
YAAAASSS MERMAID FO LYFEEE!
Quick question could you used balloon latex?
Hey I'm going to be making mermaid tutorial soon and I love this idea can I use it and link you video so you can get credit for the idea
So I can wear these in the water to cosplay and swim and they won't come off?
Don't have Latex is there a replacement?
I wish I wasn't allergic to latex..
there are latex free condoms...
I didn't know i haven't used condoms in a long time .
Sounds like you are the walking std lmaooo
AY KIDS ARE WATCHING THIS
I know this is 7 years old but would it be possible to just use glue to stick them on ur hand rather than the adhesive??
I am TOTALLY making this for Halloween, but I am cutting the latex into pieces so it actually goes between my fingers.
Dang she’s good at crafts
Am i the only one that would lik to go swiming with webbed hands i wonder if it would make a difference
it would but there are special webbed diving gloves and its a diference i use the darkfin gloves for freediving and its a big difference
Would these be reusable? I work a haunted house and would love to add this to my character.
Any homestuck fans?
MrDoctor SirGamer yup!
gonna improve my cosplay thanks to this
Can you swimmi with them
Sup
LittleLoser XOXO i'm here
Would it be possible to clean up the underside with liquid latex to make it look more presentable do you think?
Yes, you could certainly blend the lines in much better with some layers of latex
You could also trim the edges better than I did to make it more neat - I just was going for the one way look so I was lazy on that haha ^_^
fantástico
is it water prof
Are they swimmable? Xxxx Anouk 10 years old (the Netherlands)
kan you swim whit it
Imagine trying to play instruments with theese 😂
I love you
Would you recommend painting hands before or after putting on the webbing?
After is better for the adhesive since you dont want a barrier on your skin, but I would say be careful when painting the fingers if you dont want color on the webbing. ^_^
Could I use school glue for the latex? If so, how many layers would u recommend? This tutorial was awesome! 💕
Ly Ho school glue wouldn't work as well, most types are water soluble so if your hands started sweating it would quickly start coming off. Glue also isn't as durable as latex so it would tear easily.
Are they reusable? And would it be possible to prepare them, then transport them and add them to your hands later?
Doing them like this as individual pieces would make them more one time use. But if you made them a little thicker and connected them more like a glove then they'd be better for transport and multiple applications

I have a question, are you able to possibly swim with them?
I don’t think the latex is waterproof
Would this be waterproof, or will the adhesive come off?
Sorry, I just read your answer to someone else!
would any other products work instead of latex???
Rosie Iarussi I would say silicone, water-melon or baldies plastic but those would be more expensive alternatives to latex ^^
where do u buy latex? in stores u can go to ?
This latex I bought from Sculpture Supply Canada
Online is usually easiest, but if you're looking for a physical store to go to, it's best to look for local costume stores or dance wear theatrics stores
I know this vid is from six years ago but I hope this is seen
Wow! that is uh... easy! I'm a complete beginner when it comes to latex sfx so this is a pleasant surprise. Are these reusable by any chance?
Latex doesn't break down so if you're careful removing them, its very possible. But it could be tricky with the adhesive - the latex might fold on itself while taking them off, so you'd have to go slow ^_^
@@NsomniaksDream thank you!
Can this be used under water?
I don’t think the latex is waterproof
Can we use it underwater ?
I don’t think latex is waterproof
can you use something else other than latex? or are people with latex allergies just SOL?
kerushii868 If you have a latex allergy I would probably suggest trying something like this with nylon or thin stretch fabric, since that's more accessible. But for similar FX products, I would do this with Baldies plastic or Water-melon - they're often used in bald cap making and could be done with this exact method :) (plus their edges can actually be blended with acetone or alcohol)
Thanks, that really helps :)
Can use silicone to do this if we have a latex allergies?
Depends on what silicone product. 3rd Degree hardens as it dries so it wouldn't have the flexibility. I would recommend the material used for vinyl or plastic bald caps as an alternative. Products like Baldiez, Super Baldiez or Water-Melon would work well :)
@@NsomniaksDream thanks for the recommendation. I do not know if I am allergic to latex but my mom and my niece are.
where can I buy liquid latex? Thanks :-)
C M Pretty sure at any Halloween store, if not try on amazon, or any other shopping website.
Or Walmart
can you stick it on with latex?
I tend not to use latex as an adhesive but that should definitely work, and you can always add a sealing layer of latex if it feels loose :D
NsomniaksDream thank youuuuuu! already started it, I'm waiting for it to dry now:3
*subscribes* beautiful job
Thank you so much! I'm really happy you like it ^_^
would spirit gum work to stick it on?
Lauren Wells Yes! Spirit gum would work as well ^_^
Awesome thanks :) I have a hair and beauty show coming up and was thinking of making these...could i make them in advance and stick them on at a later date to save time or would the latex go all funky lol? X
Lauren Wells You could definitely make them ahead of time. Just be sure to thoroughly powder them on both sides and I would suggest sandwiching them between parchment paper, and storing flat until use :)
Wicked thanks so much! :D x
hi I just thought I'd let you know my hair and beauty show was yesterday and I came first place! =D thank you xx
It is an very nice idea, but I would use an glove to put it with that together not the hand directly, because glue is not good for the skin and with an glove it would look much better, when you do it right.
I absolutely agree a glove would make it easier and then be reusable so extra win!
But just to clarify, this is medical grade skin safe glue so it is safe to use ^_^
Can u swim with it
I don’t think the latex is waterproof
Would i be able to go swimming with them ?
I don’t think the latex is waterproof
Imagine wearing this in school and putting a makeup mermaid fin on your legs or hand that would be funny if someone notice
I put my silicone and make a mermaid
Finger🙉🙉
Nice!But excuse me,but it's a siren hand not a mermaid hand!😐
The mermaids are not have webs but nice!
The sirens have webbed hands not the mermaids!😐😑But nice!☺😊💎💎
dude, we got it, stop spamming lol
You know a smart idea would have been to do this on a black background / table top or marble smh so it actually looks like you're doing something lmao 😂
Siren hand
I naturally have webbed fingers up to almost my first knuckle. It... sucks 😂 But hey! No one can catch me in swimming. 😂😂😂😂😂
