  • Becoming a mermaid? Water fairy? Mutant fish person?
    Then this tutorial is for YOU! How to make your own webbed hands
    LATEX-FREE ALTERNATIVES
    If you have a latex allergy:
    - You can buy a plastic or vinyl bald cap and cut up the necessary pieces for between the fingers
    - You can buy the liquid directly and use it the same way. Products like Baldiez, Super Baldiez, Water-Melon are all used to create latex free bald caps
    This is more of a one time use style webbed hand but you could always make multiples at a time if you were using it for a convention weekend or something, and if you are painting your hand, the inside of the hand would actually blend pretty well and not be as noticeable :D
    This is in prep to one of the tutorials I am most excited for!
    You will see that one later tonight so get ready!
    Love you guys! Hope this can help some of you out and if you give it a try please tag me in your pics so I can see your amazing work!

    very very cool!! i wonder if it'd be possible to stick the latex webbing on a glove for a reusable prosthetic/to allow you to get the latex in between your fingers rather than as a layer under them?? would really like to experiment with this! either way though, it's such an easy to way to get lovely results that remaking them every time you want to use them wouldn't be a big deal i think, haha
    beautiful results, thank you so much for sharing this!!

      You could probably use latex gloves with the finger tips it out to make a reusable set.

      Yes, you could certainly blend the lines in much better with some layers of latex
      You could also trim the edges better than I did to make it more neat - I just was going for the one way look so I was lazy on that haha ^_^

    Would you recommend painting hands before or after putting on the webbing?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  5 років тому

      After is better for the adhesive since you dont want a barrier on your skin, but I would say be careful when painting the fingers if you dont want color on the webbing. ^_^

  • @lyho6941

    Could I use school glue for the latex? If so, how many layers would u recommend? This tutorial was awesome! 💕

    • @grechtinjuarez
      @grechtinjuarez 6 років тому

      Ly Ho school glue wouldn't work as well, most types are water soluble so if your hands started sweating it would quickly start coming off. Glue also isn't as durable as latex so it would tear easily.

  • @lenakrone6449
    @lenakrone6449 4 роки тому

    Are they reusable? And would it be possible to prepare them, then transport them and add them to your hands later?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  4 роки тому

      Doing them like this as individual pieces would make them more one time use. But if you made them a little thicker and connected them more like a glove then they'd be better for transport and multiple applications

    where do u buy latex? in stores u can go to ?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  6 років тому

      This latex I bought from Sculpture Supply Canada
      Online is usually easiest, but if you're looking for a physical store to go to, it's best to look for local costume stores or dance wear theatrics stores

    Wow! that is uh... easy! I'm a complete beginner when it comes to latex sfx so this is a pleasant surprise. Are these reusable by any chance?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  Рік тому

      Latex doesn't break down so if you're careful removing them, its very possible. But it could be tricky with the adhesive - the latex might fold on itself while taking them off, so you'd have to go slow ^_^

    can you use something else other than latex? or are people with latex allergies just SOL?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  7 років тому +3

      kerushii868 If you have a latex allergy I would probably suggest trying something like this with nylon or thin stretch fabric, since that's more accessible. But for similar FX products, I would do this with Baldies plastic or Water-melon - they're often used in bald cap making and could be done with this exact method :) (plus their edges can actually be blended with acetone or alcohol)

    • @kerushii868

    Can use silicone to do this if we have a latex allergies?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on what silicone product. 3rd Degree hardens as it dries so it wouldn't have the flexibility. I would recommend the material used for vinyl or plastic bald caps as an alternative. Products like Baldiez, Super Baldiez or Water-Melon would work well :)

    It is an very nice idea, but I would use an glove to put it with that together not the hand directly, because glue is not good for the skin and with an glove it would look much better, when you do it right.

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  3 роки тому +2
